I have a 99 Astro van it's leaking power steering fluid from a hose and they didn't want to fix it. I don't think it gets any simpler than that... And they turned the job down.

I went there a month ago when I heard a strange noise coming from my car when I drove it.i was told there was no noise. The owner had a snotty attitude I will never go back there again. For it being my first time. I took my business to bud adams an was taken care of properly.

Perception is a funny thing, it is not reality. I have talked to people with the opinion that they will only bring their car to a shop where they are greeted by a service advisor wearing a spotless white lab coat and carrying a clipboard, looking like a NASA launch director. These are just media driven images and advertisements for the large companies. These greeters are not the ones doing the work. Someone else, wearing grease coveralls, is doing the work. Now, if you are looking for auto repair par excellence, then you need to look no further than Valley Auto Repair in Castro Valley. I have been doing business with them for 30+ years. John Lewis and Bob have kept my cars roadworthy all these years without any problems. If I could, I would give them 6 stars.

I am just posting my experience walking in here once and asking how much it would be for an oil change. I would not actually put any particular star rating for my experience if google had that option, since I didn't have any work done there. The worker/owner? stared at me for a while as if I had asked him if they sell poodles (at least that's how it looked like to me). Then he said they don't do oil changes, they're not an oil change shop, they do full service and the like for $150. He also told me about how crappy the two oil change shops in the area were and how he had fixed some cars they had damaged. I did not appreciate his attitude and would not go there personally. As to whether they are a good shop or if they're attitude is fine for other people - I don't know.

Looking for a place to bring my truck in because the check engine light was on. For those who tried to get a smog check when the check engine light is received an automatic fail. So I looked to YELP and these cats were mentioned and most people gave them 5 stars so why not check them out. Since I got burned in the past, I told myself to see what the estimation of repairs would be and if it was outrageous I would thank them and be on my way. They found the problem right away and told me the amount for all repairs and surprising it was significantly lower than what I had been charged for in the past. I highly recommend Valley Auto for straight up, no BS, and friendly service

The first time I did business with Valley Auto was in March 2012. I was referred to them by a parts store. They replaced both of my front headlights to my 2007 VW Beetle. Within a week the passenger light went out and I took it back and they replaced it at no charge. After a very unpleasant experience with a dealership repair shop in Hayward that damaged my car and wanted to do unnecessary work. Valley Auto repaired the damage by the other repair shop (also no charge). A few weeks later I had a side view mirror that needed replacing - in and out within a few hours. They also cleaned the gummy film left from the duct tape I used to hold it together. I took my car in for a tune up and oil change; again in and out and didn't cost me an arm and a leg. They never try to sale me unneeded parts or repairs. Whatever they quote me for estimates doesn't change. John and Bob are the nicest guys and answer ALL of my questions. They know a great deal about cars and I totally trust them and and will highly recommend them to every one! CAVEAT: I'm still trying to get a refund of less than $150 from the dealership in Hayward (going on over 2 months now) - and I wrote a complaint to the Bureau of Automotive Repair. John had told me "they should just give me my money back - because that's what I would do". So I would just bet that the gal who complained on Yahoo and YELP probably got her money back from Valley Auto Repair. Actually I know she did - I asked. Because that would be the right thing to do. If I'm going to write a poor review for a business, I would at least give them an appropriate amount of time to rectify the situation. It would almost appear that I had intentionally did something to write a bad review about - without even giving the business time to respond.

Such an honest shop. It has saved me thousands of dollars by providing honest assessments of my car and advising against recommendations made by dishonest shops, 2 in Castro Valley and one in Hayward. Furthermore, today the mechanic told me I do not need a new battery and instead recharged mine for 15 minutes at no charge even though I offered to pay for his time.

I left my car thinking the estimate would require a side job or two. Not at all! The owner, I think, was straight forward with me and made recommendations that I believe he would take himself. That is important to me. The cost was minimal compared to my expectations. I highly recommend this shop. It is not a corporate quota driven operation. He wants you to be happy about the service so you will write reviews like this. They deserve it.
