My relationship with A Master Mechanic goes back 15 years. I've owned 2 Cherokees and it's my favorite vehicle. My first cherokee was a 4 cyl and Jeff found me a reliable used motor and exhaust. I drove it for 7 years then gave it away still running. I bought a 4door 92 with the trusty 6 cyl about 11 years ago and after approx 300,000 miles I decided to replace the motor. It was an instant decision on who to do this. It was an easy consult with Dave and I was pleased to find out that AMM is a dealer on Jasper motors and I really wanted one. I also had planned our summer vacation the first week of June. With just 3-4 weeks time the AMM crew had my Jasper motor ordered and installed with all of my bolt-on upgrades, radiator and new exhaust. Jeff personally oversaught the install and performed some of the work himself. Timed perfectly we broke in the new motor while driving to Ely on our vacation. We drove that beast through mud, water, snow and salt as we decided on a day trip to Salt Lake City. The Jeep drove flawlessly and I had no worries taking it 15-20 miles from civilization on rugged dirt roads and 1500+ miles road driving with my fiance and my 71yr old mother. We all had the best time. A Master Mechanic delivers what it's name promises and I would never consider another shop over this one. I've seen them grow from a little shop down the street a bit to owning their full mechanic shop that is impressive and beautiful. It is only from truly being the best is this possible. One and done – never again! I don’t take leaving a negative review lightly, especially in a small town where word-of-mouth matters. But after my experience here, I feel others deserve a heads-up. I visited the shop in person to set my appointment and clearly outlined what I wanted done: Replace the motor and transmission mounts (I even dropped off a polyurethane transmission mount I purchased myself), Diagnose why the AC wasn’t blowing cold, and investigate the non-functioning axle lockers—specifically asking them to check the air pumps and lines, a known problem area. Red flags from the start: At drop-off, the service advisor immediately talked about a ~$200 diagnostic charge for a failing transmission—completely misunderstanding me. I wasn’t asking for a diagnosis; I just wanted the mounts replaced. Communication breakdowns & overcharges: When I dropped the Jeep off, I told the service advisor the engine mounts were special order and to use factory mounts. Days later the tech called saying they couldn’t source the mounts because they were special order. I had already explained that—clearly the message was never passed along. Soon after, I got a call to authorize transmission and engine mount replacement—for over $700. Very steep for a straightforward job, but I approved it. Later, I got another call requesting approval for a $400+ “Level 2” diagnostic on the lockers. Again, this ignored my instructions to only inspect pumps and lines. Regarding the AC and lockers, I was okay with paying the $200 diagnostic fee if it actually led to repairs. But after six full days, I got my Jeep back with the same AC and locker problems—no resolution, just bills for diagnostics. No follow-up, no transparency: Not once did they proactively update me. My Jeep sat for six days with nothing but mount replacements done. I had to physically walk into the shop Monday morning to get my Jeep back. Meanwhile, my weekend was a logistical nightmare without my daily driver. The final disappointment: I later took it to a well-known AC shop in town, where the issue was finally repaired. That’s when I found out this shop outsources all AC work to the same place! So they charged me diagnostic fees without fixing anything, and would’ve simply upcharged me for outsourced work. Bottom line: This was my first and only visit. I’m out $1,600, and all they completed was a $700+ mount replacement. Between miscommunication, inflated costs, no progress on major issues, and no transparency about outsourcing, I cannot recommend this shop. If you value clear communication, timely service, and actual results, take your vehicle somewhere else.

Somewhat confusing to find the entrance and very cramped. Also they moved things in my car while doing a smog check. There was no need for that but nothing is missing thankfully. I also brought up that my alternator was going out and instead of offering advice like where to buy a new one or how much to replace it they tried to get me to sign up for "diagnostic services". This company incentivizes their people to milk you for every penny.

The staff and mechanic who serviced my vehicle was very professional. Communication was very good with updates throughout the process. When there was another issue with my vehicle I agreed to have it fixed and it was done same day. O2 sensor and suspension was completed and my car runs very well. I’m glad all the issues were resolved before the winter here. They were also very flexible with payment options. I didn’t feel like this business was undermining or disregarding my initial reasons for my visit. I was treated very well. I will visit them the next time I have problems. We've tried a couple of other mechanic shops in the areas of Fernley, Reno, Fallon and Carson City including Ford dealerships but had some questions about work performance and ethics. A friend recommended me to A Master Mechanics because of their excellent customer service and care for her car; in addition to being a partner with CarShield. Fred Rivas was most helpful and informative. He gave me updates on the concerns with my vehicle and worked with me since CarShield ended up not covering the work required. Just picked up our car and it feels brand new ! Sincerely appreciate all of the Conrad Wilsons (technician) efforts to ensure our car was running great ! HIGHLY recommend A Master Mechanics!

Price was high for what all was done to my car. They took their time with the repair too and when I picked it up there was a large amount of bird poop all over my car. First and last time here. 2 weeks after the repairs the original problem I had is still there and my car is still leaking coolant and now I have a new check engine light code. If you drop your car off they will hold it for more than a week and give slow updates and most likely not even fix the problem that you brought it in for. I would never recommend this shop! Save your time and money and take your car to a place other than this one.

We needed a new mechanic after our old one of 10+ yrs was absorbed by another company. A Master Mechanic came highly recommended from a couple folks at work, and we couldn’t be happier! They fixed the issue at hand and gave our vehicle a full inspection. Had an intermittent confusing problem that they were able to diagnose as an air condition problem . During the inspection they found a leaky front differential. They were able fix both problems and performed an oil change. The communication with the service technician was awesome. The best part is how Friendly everyone one was. Getting a safety inspection gives you peace of mind unlike going to an oil change only shop for only a few dollars more.

My recent experience with A Master Mechanic was an "above-and-beyond" effort! In particular, the owner, Jeff Pheasant, made certain that I was kept informed and that the project kept moving at a responsible pace. I should state that they accepted my vehicle as a special case, after I had been referred to Jeff by the owner of another shop. Specifically, I asked A Master Mechanic to help me with a 1962 Chevrolet C10 truck that I have owned since 1977, which is NOT a vehicle on which they would normally work. Jeff decided to accept the project and took it as his personal mission to ensure the truck received first class attention. Ultimately, it was recommended that I replace the engine and transmission, which was not a small undertaking, nor an inexpensive one. I was willing to make the investment based almost entirely on the knowledge Jeff obviously possesses about vehicles such as mine, as well as his enthusiasm for seeing a classic truck returned to roadworthy condition. I picked up the truck last Friday -- the day it was promised to be completed -- and have driven it numerous times since then. Zero problems thus far and it drives like a new vehicle. (Well, as "new" as a 63 year old truck can feel). Jeff also insisted that I call him directly if there are any issues or questions. So, this review is limited to the experience during service and the initial test drives following this very, very extensive overhaul, but I don't anticipate any issues in the future. Special thanks to Jeff and his crew, including Skyler, Fred, Geronimo, Ray, and Jeff's son. (And to Jeff's wife, for allowing him to take-on this project; it wasn't an easy one). I've owned that truck since 1977 and you have made a big difference in how it will perform for the remainder of my time with it!
