Took my 2006 Nissan Altima to get it checked as my check engine light had come on. After about an hour's testing and fixing it, the owner told me it was ready. He refused to accept payment for it because he said he ran the entire test on the equipment and there was no fault, it just needed a minor fix. He could have easily made up a story and ripped me off without e even knowing it, but he chose not to. This goes to show the integrity and the honesty of the folks at Auto Specialty, and how deep their values are rooted to their work. Will definitely recommend this place to anyone, as these people are honest and good at what they do.

I have used this company twice for repairs to truck. First issue was the plenum, valve-cover gaskets and my heater hose and the second issue was a snapped brake line. Both repair jobs were done timely, and most of all, correctly. These people will fix you up, get the job done right, and will give you a very reasonable price.

Recently my husband's truck was having throttle issues, which we thought would be covered under warranty so we took it to the local dealer. Told us they couldn't get us in for a week and diagnostics alone were going to cost $75. Had them do diagnostic and told us it would be a $450 fix. Proceeded to take it to Auto Specialty (my mechanic since I started driving) and they reviewed the other diagnostic and ran their own- without charging us- and told us they could not pin point the exact cause but could be one of 5 things. Told us they weren't going to start doing the repairs to the vehicle if they did not know exactly what was causing the issue. Needless to say, the truck has been reset and working great since then. They were also able to take a look at our car the next day, not the next week. I cannot say enough about the honesty and care this business puts into their work. I recommend them to every single person I know because of their outstanding ethics and work. If you're looking for a dependable, accurate, honest business to repair your vehicle don't look ANY further!!!

I chose this shop that a friend suggested to me because I needed a clutch job for my Mazda Miata, and they fixed it perfectly and in a reasonable amount of time. I can’t say enough about the honesty and integrity of Auto Specialty! I was told at a bigger dealership what I needed done and I decided to get a second opinion. It saved me TONS. My car runs beautifully with what they did say needed fixed. Would recommend them to anyone, but especially if new to Lafayette. You’ll be treated well!

These guys aren't the friendliest, BUT they are honest. We've had a number of experiences with them that have proven this to be true. For example, they fixed my engine mount, found the part for cheaper than initially expected, the work was done in a timely manner and when asked, they showed me what was done and explained everything. In another example, they didn't try to push unnecessary work on me when nothing appeared to be wrong with my car. Though, it would be nice if they explained more without prompting. Get past their rough exterior and you'll have yourself an excellent mechanic.

Great service doesn’t begin to describe this place. Auto specialty of Lafayette is a divine gift. These gentleman were caring, honest, capable and a refreshing change from the usual shop. The tow truck driver from Joeys towing said they were the best in town and said they had even just worked on the truck I was in! Even as I sat in the waiting room a regular customer told me I was “in good hands.” I could not agree more. I am from out of town and was only near Lafayette for work. These guys took my car in right away and the techs even volunteered to stay late to fix my axle and get me back on the road where I needed to go. Above and beyond service! Don bent over backwards to find a part for my car so late in the day, and even though the parts shop had no drivers one of the techs even volunteered to drive and get the part personally!! With such amazing service, I expected outrageous prices, but these guys still charged a fair price and didn’t gouge me at all! They care. How many car shops have you been to where you actually felt valued as a customer from the very first time you went in? They’re more than great mechanics who work quickly, these guys are good people and set the bar extraordinarily high for any shop. I will never forget the incredible service of Auto Specialty of Lafayette!! If I could give six stars this would be the first place that ever earned it. Thank you guys!!

Why are these folks the best mechanics in town? 1. My car’s cruise control had died and it also needed an oil change so I went in here for both. They ran the diagnostics but charged me for oil change only. Why? Because they told me that repairing the cc was only possible at an authorized dealership. Now they could have easily forked some money out from me for the labor that went in to run the diagnostics, but they did not. 2. The same car was making some occasional squealing noise in the front and I thought my belt housing was loose or the belt itself was giving away. So, I took my car here. They ran few tests for a good 30 min but did not detect anything wrong. This time as well, they did not charge me anything because in their eyes they did not work for you so they should not charge you. That is how honest and humble they are. They do not try to rip you off like maybe 90% of other auto shops out there. I am moving out of state and I hope I am able to find honest mechanics at my new place like the Auto Specialty of Lafayette. I recommend them to anyone living in or visiting the Grater Lafayette area. Forget your car, you can trust your kids in their care.

It is not often you find a business that doesn’t charge you for their work. My grandson is going to college next year, so we’ve been fixing up an older car with low miles to provide him with his transportation needs. We did the work on things we were comfortable with, fluid changes, brakes, belts, filters and testing with research to make sure we could give him something reliable. In my research I found recommendations at our mileage point to replace the struts to prevent undo wear on front end parts and keep the car at peak handling. This was not something we were comfortable doing so we reached out to “Auto Specialty of Lafayette” and made an appointment to have them replaced. My call from them was surprising enough in itself, “we had two mechanics test the car, we measured the bounce and height specs and found the car to be exactly as it should”. Needless to say, I was surprised they even checked for the need and not just fill the appointment with billable hours. And if this wasn’t already sincere enough, he wouldn’t take money for the time his team spent. The best part was showing my grandson how a business should be run and knowing that, we will see them again.

Highly recommended. He's really honest, knows your car very well, and you'll never get overpriced services here. I was initially told that it'd cost over $2,000 to fix my car at a different service center, and I fixed it here just paying around $150. We brought our car all of a sudden without appointments and his schedule was fully booked for the whole week, but he did his best to make time for diagnosing our car and fixed it in 3 days. I see other reviews saying he's not kind to you. Well I can see that he's not the type of person who smiles at you all the time without any reason, but the way he communicates with me doesn't feel like he's being disrespectful or being mean at all.
