At first I thought they had done an amazing job but then I realized they hadn’t. My car battery died completely, had it towed here and they said it was a wiring issue with an aftermarket alarm. They unhooked the alarm and charged my battery. They told me that I just needed to get a new battery and it would start/run just fine. Bought a new battery and when to replace it to find that the Hood Insulation Retainer Clips were all broken and/or gone entirely, leaving my insulation pad loose and flopping under my hood which caused it to get burn marks and melted in various areas. Once I replaced my battery, the truck wouldn’t start at all. So, obviously, this wasn’t the issue. Having to have it towed once more and get it looked at all over again.

These people are CROOKS PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!! They were referred by AAA it was after hours when I dropped the vehicle off. I filled out the envelope and placed the key inside, then deposited it in the drop box. On the envelope it asked if I would like a call before the vehicle was serviced. I waited a few hours and called, only to find out my car was ready. Completely baffled, I went over to see what was wrong. I was told my total was $32.00 for a PLUG!!! A PLUG?? $32.00. I spoke with Grace (she was super sweet) and she her self was shocked!! Then Norman got on the phone yelling and lying, not being and honorable businessman about their tainted call before service policy. Stating I didn’t check it, I let him know that was false and that I was recording the call. I let him know that I checked the box and circled it, then he got angry stating that he now can see the check mark. Norman stated to bring the vehicle back so he could take the plug out. A REAL BULLY!! A HORRIBLE BUSINESSMAN!! I will be taking this steps further. It’s the PRINCIPLE!

Highest quality service with integrity These days, it’s nerve-racking to choose a mechanic, when you don’t know much about what goes on under your car’s hood. It’s very easy for a repair shop to take advantage. Auto & Truck Services stands out as the exception. Their mechanics are extremely knowledgeable and, just as importantly, scrupulously honest, adhering to high standards set by Norman Rutland and his right-hand, Grace Rutland. This repair shop’s work is excellent, and the team there stands behind all repairs they do. I wouldn’t trust our vehicles to anyone else.

I took my car to a Goodyear a week earlier because of a noise I was hearing when I turned right. They said a couple clips had come loose from the cover under the car, so they just removed the cover and said it was fine. I left, but kept hearing the noise all week. Today I went to Auto & Truck Service upon the strong recommendation of my colleague, and they discovered the wheel bearing hub had failed. They got the part from the dealer that day and I had my car back the same day. I don't hear the noise anymore!

If it were possible to give a lower rating, I would. Norman, the owner, after failing to identify the real problem with my car a month ago, hung up the phone on me twice because he didn't like the fact that I questioned his credibility after charging me $600+ and failing to fix the problem I brought the car to originally. When I went to the shop to have my car towed to a reliable shop, I again asked Norman direct questions about his level of service. Instead of being professional, he chose to call the Birmingham Police. Mind you, I never cursed, raised my voice, or did anything of a threatening nature. Excellent customer service, right? I've spent in excess of $5,000 over the last year with this business, and Norman doesn't think he has to answer tough questions about his shop and his work. I'll never do business with them again and I hope you do the same.

I can't say enough Great Things about Auto and Truck Services, about Norman Rutland and his Crew, and Grace and the Ladies in the office. Service to my vehicles have been thorough, complete, and very reasonably priced. Norman took the time to carefully examine my vehicles, explain what needed to be done, then make sure I understood and was OK with the entire outcome. There's not a better auto and truck service provider in the entire Birmingham area. These are my Go To folks for all my vehicle needs!

When you drive a particular vehicle for work transportation, it is important to maintain & keep important things like oil changes done regularly. The more miles you drive can require other maintenance issues. The mechanics at this place are good at their job. I guess they have experience at what they do.

It pains me to write this because I have done business with Norman for years now, but I remain floored after this latest incident. The muffler on my car was rattling terribly, and I suspected a loose bracket of sorts. I took it to Norman, and he told me that I needed to replace both mufflers, as well as all the piping, which would be $875 before labor. I told him not to do anything with the car, and I got it back from him and put it up on my own ramps to discover that the source of the noise was a loose bolt which was fixed in ten minutes with a fifty cent nut from the local hardware store. I cannot believe that any mechanic would try and scam a customer in this fashion. This makes me think back to when I had him change the transmission fluid in my Lexus two years ago. He neglected to fill it to the proper level, and the transmission would slip and not want to go into gear. I took it back to him, where he denied there was a problem, and then he said that "these things happen around 100k miles and you should just let me replace the transmission". A subsequent trip to the dealer informed me that the transmission was a gallon low on fluid. The dealer filled it up and the car has been fine ever since. This is a shame, because him and his wife are really nice people and have done some decent work on other cars of mine. However, this last incident indicates that he either did not even look at the car, or looked at it and then tried to scam me. Tl;dr: do not take your car to this man. He will try and charge you large sums of money for work the car does not need.

Dropped off my 1997 Tacoma for service and two days later technician called me to say they couldn't work on it because it had aftermarket parts. Very disappointing that I went without a vehicle for 2 and 1/2 days waiting on their service to only find out that they hadn't even touched my vehicle. I would not recommend this shop. It's full of older vehicles but for some reason they didn't want to work on mine. 5/9 If aftermarket hubs on a truck prevents it from being worked on by your shop then it should only take looking at the vehicle before the customer leaves it. It was a day and a half before I was called and told that you could not work on my truck. The suspension did not cause any of the issues. The truck is in perfect alignment. It was a motor mount that worn causing the vibration. Would've been an easy repair. I guess your shop isn't for me, but Acme Muffler inspected my truck and adjusted the rear brakes and didn't even charge me, I highly recommend them. Just disappointed

Customer Service par Excelante! Transmission died in Birmingham as I was moving from San Diego to Knoxville. AAA towed my vehicle to Auto & Truck on the rain at 11 PM. I called Norm the next day and he diagnosed my vehicle. He took the time to help me make the right decision about my high mileage Honda. I offered my 270k mile Pilot to him to cover my charge since I was located in Knoxville and didn't know what to do with it. He recommended I trade it in and pocket the money. He seemed to be more interested in my welfare than cashing in on my situation. He never charged me for diagnostics or storage for a week. He even boxed vehicle contents and sent them to me. Again, no charge. I sent him a bit to cover some of his costs and am indebted at his kindness during a stressful time.

I have used Auto and Truck Service for my car and truck for over fifteen years. I even remember the first time I went there, Norman was rebuilding an airplane in there. I stopped by a couple of days ago with a problem with the lights on my trailer. I told Norman I was kind of desperate for time because I needed to go out of town and I didn’t have any lights on the trailer. He came out on the street and began to troubleshoot the problem. Twenty minutes later, I had lights. Professional, knowledgeable, impeccable service. I think they have the best garage in town.

Fair, honest, good mechanics. My older vehicle needed some repairs, so Norman took the time to talk me through all the options and costs. Once I decided what I wanted to do, they did good work in a reasonable time at a fair price. Highly recommended!

This business did a great job on my daughter’s SUV. They knew the problem and talked me through the solution. They got the job done and extremely easy to work with. I am out of state so I felt like they really put me at ease.

I've taken two cars to these people, and they've made it a no-nonsense experience. The first time they did a lot of repair work on a Ford focus of mine; charged less than what other people quoted me, charged less than what they initially quoted me, And had the car ready for me in 2 days. Based on the repairs that I needed, having it out in 2 days was an amazing feat. Second time I brought in my truck for rebalancing of the tires and replacing brake rotors. They had it in and out in the same day, and charged less again than other people were quoting me. I will always bring my business here. Just know that they stay busy; if you want business with them you're going to have to bring in your car as soon as they open.

I came to this shop in desperate need of a fix before I need to make a long road trip. I didn't have a lot of time, and Norm told me he could work me in. Within an hour, his team looked at the issue and did a quick fix to get me back home where a part can be ordered and more extensive/time consuming repairs can be performed. He didn't charge me for the service. Everyone in the shop was super friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

ZERO STARS! My advice is to save you hard-earned money, and go elsewhere for quality service, and pricing. I was charged a total of 1784.00 for repairs on my car, and I'm still having problems.I didn't have any major work done, and still paid almost 1800. Norman, the owner, says that he guarantees his work, but that's only when he chooses to deal with you. If he has engine jobs to do, you will be placed on the back burner!, and then maybe he'll look at your vehicle. He also told me that even if he looks at my car, he will charge me again! He's more concerned about getting new money, rather than satisfying all of his customers. I've had to bring my car back a few times because some of the work wasn't done correctly. I recently spoke with him on two occasions, and he flat-out REFUSED to look at my car, was rude, and hung up on me on both calls. Norman needs to learn how to speak to people, and treat others the way he wants to be treated! If it wasn't for the customers, he wouldn't have a business at all! If he spent good money for a service, he would also expect quality, as well as a great overall experience. His wife, and the mechanics were very nice though.I should've spent my money elsewhere, and DO NOT RECOMMEND HIS BUSINESS AT ALL!

Norman ( and his team) kept me informed throughout the repair process and they had my car back in a matter of days. Norman also took the time to show me the old parts that were replaced and addressed some "red flag" issues (which were also taken care of). I now have peace of mind that my car is safe and reliable to operate and get me around. Very happy and would definitely recommend.

Great experience, Wonderful people!! Not only did they fix our car but they gave us a ride back to the hotel and the next day came back and picked us up to go get our car. They went above and beyond to help us get our car back on the road. We're from out of town and my boyfriend has to travel back and forth for cancer treatment, We're blessed to have found this shop. Thanks for all your help and hospitality!!!

I’ve been taking my vehicles to Auto & Truck for years. Grace and Norman are honest and trustworthy people. We own an old truck that we use but don’t want to put too much money in. Norm is very upfront about costs and value when it comes to putting money into an extra vehicle. I cannot recommend them enough. Just good people doing good work.

Norman first worked on my car in 1986. I Would not dream if using another shop simply because he is so good and reliable. Have never once had to take a car back about a problem. One time I did something jaw dropping stupid at home; I had to have the car towed onto his shop because it wouldn't start. Norman checked it out and looked it over. He called and told me to come in and when I did he turned the new key in the ignition and it started right away. I begged him to let me pay him for his time and effort, and HE WOULDNT TAKE MY MONEY. Thank you, Norman!
