After about a year of struggle, my poor 2004 Honda Element finally needed some work done, and my other mechanic isn't comfortable working on transmissions. I'm extremely pleased I called Barretts. Mark is super upfront, really kind. They got me up and running in a few hours and knocked off the cost of the diagnosis because it was a really simple fix. They also solved a $1700 ignition issue I'd been chasing since I'd bought the car for less then $200 combined, and they went the extra mile and cleaned up my under dash wiring free of charge. It's also pretty obvious that I don't know much about cars, but they didn't make that an issue nor force anything that didn't need to be done to be road safe. Having been on a few of the smoothest adventures I've had in Buchanan since I left their shop, I honestly can't recommend them more.

I had an ongoing, complex transmission issue that involved two transmission failures within a two-month time span. I was referred to Barrett by another local shop that spoke very highly of them, and I see why! From first contact, Mark was incredibly kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. He guided me through the diagnostic and repair process with ease. I was floored by how quickly they were able to find and correct the underlying thermal bypass issue. They connected directly with the previous technician that worked on my car to gain repair insight, pool resources, and solve my transmission issue within just a couple days! I was impressed by their level of expertise, professionalism, and care to help me get back on the road quickly. Repair technician Brad broke down what happened for me in a way that I could understand and clarified next steps. Barrett Transmission was fantastic to work with. They offered direct communication, went above and beyond to quickly diagnose issues, and gave an accurate repair timeline. Barrett totally exceeded my expectations and provided excellent repair work. I highly recommend them for your transmission repair! Thanks for all of your help and insight, Mark and Brad!

I had my car towed to Barrett after a breakdown going by the reviews which looked positive. Tow truck dropped me off after hours as was directed by the person I spoke with on the phone who was clear and kind enough. When I went in to meet them at the shop and speak with them during business hours the front desk person I had spoken to was off that day. The person that I spoke with was an extremely aggressive and angry person, basically accusing me that I would abandon my car like so many others before had which was not even a thought for me. He seemed to have zero compassion for the fact that I received the news that it was going to be prohibitively expensive to fix the transmission and that I needed to figure out how to get it off his lot ASAP.! It was a very stressful moment for me and that I was out of state and trying to figure out how to navigate through the situation. I would not recommend going in there as a woman alone… Like I said. This guy was extremely aggressive and angry.. Can’t recommend this place at all based on my experience.

I had the Automatic Transmission rebuilt in my 1994 Z 28 Camaro by these guys, and everything works good as new. I even have a 3 year 50,000 miles warranty good in 50 States. Yaaa ! A year later my Barrett Performance Transmission still operates perfectly.

Went in to get my transmission rebuilt on my Chevrolet Colorado after it started having serious shifting issues and a friend recommended this shop. Not only did they complete the rebuild in great time so I could use my truck again for work but they even replaced the shifter linkage that was broken as well because they noticed it was worn out. Excellent service, professional people, and my truck still shifting strong. Thank you Barrett Transmission.

Barrett Transmission handle all of our fleet transmission needs. From servicing to replacing.. Their service is excellent. They also catch any other issues your vehicle may have and are able to repair them as well. Their pricing reasonable. Most importantly, they are honest. They will continue to be our go to for any transmission issues Evergreen Town Car or QM Transport have.

Our transmission went into limp mode while traveling from Alaska to Oregon. We called Barrett’s at 440 pm and they said come on over and we will get you taken care of. Explained we had 5th wheel trailer also. They let us park the trailer and stay in side their fence, including after hours. And gave us a key to the gate to get out. They got the truck transmission rebuilt and had us back on the road in less than 2 days. They took great care of us. Transmission was rebuilt way heavier duty than the stock one was. And made sure we were aware of a 2 year nationwide warranty.

Our 2017 Tahoe had an unexpected (to us) catastrophic transmission failure, they got us back on the road in 4 days. Mark was great to work with, from our first conversation I was confident we had chosen the right shop.

Today, I brought my 1992 Ford F150 in due to what seemed to me to be a transmission problem. The engine sounded like maybe the RPMs were getting too high and it would shift if I let off the gas. So, based on other positive reviews, and my interest in having a transmission specialist look at it, I brought it to Barrett. The technician took it for a drive and said the transmission was fine. That's good news. While any specialty shop could stop there and just say take it to a regular mechanic, the guy at Barrett went further and was able to suggest the problem was a bad heater core that was fooling the engine into thinking it was running too hot, which was kicking on the fan clutch. He said they don't do this type of work and to try another shop down the road. While I did check that other shop, and also got a quote at another nearby, ultimately, I was able to source a heater core locally and swap it out late tonight. Outside of 34 year old car plastic and needing some unexpected super glue from the garage, the swap went pretty well, and my truck is back to running normally again. No more crazy fan fooling me and no more heater core fooling the truck. Thanks for the consultation.

The peaceful inducing feeling of whatever air freshener they placed, along with the power I feel seated behind the wheel of my 2008 3500 6.7 Cummins turbo diesel as well as the good laughs made the $9.9k blissful to spend on the new heavy duty upgraded torque converter/transmission. Being serious though they did a FANTASTIC job at a WONDERFUL price. Best pricing I found for the job!

After owning my truck for shy 1 year, my transmission required a rebuild. Barrett's rebuilt the transmission in a timely fashion. One week later, the truck went into limp mode and needed a second rebuild because of a faulty transmission pump from the supplier. Barrett's Transmission was on it and had it rebuilt a second time at no cost due to 2 year warranty. The whole crew was polite, professional. I highly recommend their services for transmission. One year later I began to have issues with my truck when it was under load. Thinking it might be the transmission issue revisited, I called Barrett's and made an appointment for someone to determine the source of the issue. Owner, Brad, took the truck (and me) out with a trailer attached. Correctly diagnosed the issue and referred me to a fantastic diesel mechanic. He was patient, spot on and very professional. He took time out of his day to problem solve an issue that was not related to the transmission. I still recommend them...

I had heard nothing but good things about this company, so I decided to give them a try when my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee’s transmission issues became more than I could handle on my own. The transmission had been slipping badly from first to second gear for a while. I’ve been adding anti-slip treatment for the past four years, it would help temporarily, but the problem kept returning. It got to the point where the Jeep wouldn’t shift unless I babied the throttle, and it became too risky to keep driving around town. That’s when I decided to take it to a transmission specialist, this one. Here’s how it went: I called the shop, and the person I spoke to (Mark) told me to bring the vehicle in on April 1st — and then immediately hung up. No mention of what time. Assuming it was an all-day drop-off, I called the morning of April 1st just to confirm. Mark told me I wasn’t actually scheduled until April 2nd, and to make sure I dropped it off before 8 a.m. Later that day, I got called into work, so I had no choice but to leave the vehicle in the lot next to the shop and use the key drop box. That drop box, by the way, was extremely sketchy, it looked like anyone could fish keys out of it. Not a great first impression. The next day I didn’t hear anything. I called around 4 p.m. to check in, and was told they had my keys and would call me when they figured out what was wrong. They never asked me what the problem was, but since it’s a transmission shop and the issue is so obvious, I figured they’d diagnose it properly. Several days go by with no updates. Finally, I get a call saying the vehicle is done. Not diagnosed — done. They claimed the problem was just a throttle position sensor, which they had already replaced without contacting me, and the bill was $170 I was surprised they didn’t call to ask for authorization to do the work, especially since it wasn’t a minor repair for something like this. But I figured if it fixed the problem, maybe it was worth it. When I picked up the Jeep, the guy made a joke like, “Aren’t you glad it wasn’t a $4000 bill?” I remember thinking: Would you have done that job without approval too? I didn’t make a fuss, I just wanted my car back and hoped the issue was resolved. But five minutes later, I found out it wasn’t. As I accelerated from an intersection, the Jeep slipped hard, revved like crazy, and nearly caused an accident. The same exact issue was still there. I called the shop right away to let them know the problem wasn’t fixed. They told me to bring it back the next week. They didn’t ask for my name or any details, seemed very unconcerned. That was the last straw for me. I decided not to return. Out of frustration, I checked under the hood when I got home and that’s when I got even more upset. The air box hadn’t even been reinstalled properly after replacing the sensor. I had to finish the job myself, screwing it down and making sure it was sealed. I took photos and will be posting them. The sensor itself was replaced, but it didn’t fix anything. I essentially paid $170 for someone to install a $14 part (that didn’t solve the issue) and half-ass their work. All in all, I’m extremely disappointed. Poor communication, unauthorized repairs, a misdiagnosed issue, and sloppy workmanship. I regret bringing my Jeep here and wouldn’t recommend this shop to anyone.

Whoever said these guys are rude is completely disconnected from reality. Brad (the owner) gave my wife and I a really awesome lesson on torque converters and transmission drums and showed us exactly where he thought it had broken (he actually teaches and it shows). He was nice, personable, and chatty as all get out. We needed a new transmission and their price was about 4 grand lower than the dealer. They only took a couple of days and had us back on the road. We're so lucky that the only shop in town is this good, y'all. Don't believe the bad reviews. They just don't reflect reality.

10/10 experience! Having to buy a new transmission is not a positive….. but Mark & his team know how to make it one! They have great customer service and are very honest & transparent. They even kept their voices down while my baby slept in the lobby when i told him not to worry! I will be referring all my friends there - thanks again!

I am so grateful for the awesome job Mark and his techs did on my ‘Tahoe. I was referred to Barrett’s by another stellar auto shop. Mark was honest, thorough, and reasonable. The job was expedited sooner than expected and I am so pleased. This is the only business that will work on my transmissions from now on. Thank you sooo much Mark and his technicians. YOU ROCK!

Excellent shop. Mark and Brad are incredibly open, communicative, and helpful. I brought my 91 toyota pickup to Barrett for a transmission rebuild and it feels like a brand new truck. Brad was a great source of information in terms of diagnostics and repair options, and the work was completed in a timely manner. Thank you guys!

Mark was so helpful! Dropped it off and took a look at it. My car needed a different type of service so he referred me to another local & trusted auto shop. He even gave me some advice from his past experience with a similar problem. Mark and his team are amazing. I highly recommend giving them a call and choosing them to help you out! Happy holidays!

Hands down the best mechanics in town!! I had been experiencing an issue with my Honda that was only manufactured in 1998, and the part to fix it was near impossible to find. Mark was dedicated to finding the part, and after 3 months of searching everywhere (and I mean everywhere), he received the part and repaired my car the next day! Such a relief. Highly recommend these guys! They care about their customers — eager to help fix your car problems to make your life safer and smooth. So grateful they are part of our community!
