Have taken all three of my cars to Dan, we own a Suzuki XL7; A Lexus ES300 and an Infiniti G37; Dan has been a pleasure to work with, he has always worked with me and my wife and I will be taking my cars to Dan in the future. He is very honest, and even though he is very busy, he makes the time to check things out and he keeps on top of his workers. Thanks Dan

I brought in my RR and Dan not only educated me about what needs to be fix under my hood but sat with me and drew out how my engine works, he is a very noticeable owner & experienced master mechanic. I’m so impressed with his actions, never had any mechanic took time out to actually educate me on how my car works. Im not only impressed by Dan & his friendly staff but he just made me a loyal customer for life. Dan is honest, friendly and his prices extremely fair- Dan is about people first, I’m completely satisfied with my experience & happy with visit to Dans Auto Repair Of Elk Grove. Thank you Dan, you are a true Mastertech, teacher but most importantly a wonderful person. #MyCarAppreciateU2#

If you're looking for an honest professional expert, auto mechanic Dan's is the place. I brought my Corvette in, I thought I had a broken compressor for my air conditioner, that's what I was told by a previous auto company. I went to Dan's I told him to replace my compressor , he did tests he started from the bottom up , he found that I only needed freon and a few minor other things. He could have taken me to the cleaners and I wouldn't have known the difference , but instead he was honest. Instead of costing me $1,400 it only cost me less than $400. They even gave me a free ride home while they work on my vehicle . If you're looking for an honest reliable mechanic and Crew, not to mention good people , go to Dan's Auto.

In 2011, I was having long term air conditioning problems with my 2003 Honda CRV and had had a very expensive "repair" under warranty at the Elk Grove Honda dealership which "fixed" the AC for two weeks until it broke again. When I took the car back to the dealership, they told me the warranty had expired and it would cost me over 3,000 bucks to fix it. Desperate, I searched around and found Dan's, took the car to him, explained the problem, and he fixed my air conditioning for under 200 bucks! It still cools perfectly. I have had several other repairs done there since 2011, and have been satisfied every time with his knowledge of all things automotive, his honesty, and his generally reasonable prices. He's now my go-to car guy...until further notice.

Hands down the best, most fair, honest, dependable, and k owns his stuff mechanic in Sacramento. Has saved me thousand o.ln repairs as compared to the chain store mechanics. It sure how I found him but recommend Dan to everyone who asks. He even tells you when it is not worth the cost to do the repairs. Dan is a rock star!

For the record, this post is from 2010 in Yelp but Dan's Auto had it removed immediately. I have been going to Dan for the past three years. I have two older cars (late 90's) and have had his shop do all of my repairs. They do average work and the price is OK. I have spent over $9,000 over the years for transmission, brakes, rear axle, replaced engine, etc. I took my third car there which is a 2002 recently and without going into too much detail, he did not provide good customer service. I had to take my car back to him two times and they still never fixed it and won't honor their warranty. Once he gets the cash in his hand, he could care less about you and your car. He repaired my friend's car once and Dan called him after the repair because he left some cash in his glove box. Turns out Dan used his car to go to the bank. He has too many customers coming in now and he now takes it for granted at his new location. He even made me drive 45 minutes to his shop to pick up my car before it was repaired because he had too many cars in his lot and I had to take it back a couple days later. Spend (or possibly save) the extra few bucks and go to a dealership or somewhere else.

Dan has been my mechanic for a couple of years now. If you want to have your vehicle serviced and not break the bank, then try him out. If you want to go to the dealership service centers across the freeway and pay an arm and a leg, then go ahead. Very honest and knowledgeable on all car makes and models. One of the hidden gems of Elk Grove,Ca.

I recently purchased Dan's GX470. He informed me that everything works, everything is well maintained and nothing is wrong with the SUV. He also informed me that if anything is not right to let him know and he would take care of it. I believed him because he was selling the vehicle in what great condition it is because he maintains it at his business. I find it interesting that the engine oil was a quart low and 500 miles past the oil change due. When I asked him about it he said they (as if he is not responsible for his staff) for not doing it right. We also found out that the DVD player in the left headrest has video quality issues and the right headrest isn't working at all. Now the car is sold as is and so it's my fault for not checking prior to the purchase. But when these two issues within four hours or purchasing the car, now he washes his hands of anything involved with it instead of taking care of anything wrong. One of the main reasons we bought the car was the DVD players installed so that our 14 year old special needs child can watch while we are driving. That didn't work out. So if Dan and his wife were dishonest and not forthcoming about a DVD player not working and not even keeping his own cars timely maintained properly, then I have hard time bringing him any business. So I was fooled into buying a vehicle from a man I believed I thought was honest, honorable and trustworthy. Shame on him.

This is one of the most honest, reasonably priced mechanic shops that I have encountered. They are knowledgable and capable of diagnosing the problem with you car, complete the work quickly, while standing by their service. I would highly recommend Dan's Auto Repair, if you wish to get to the root of your car's problem.

Dan is a nice guy.. My wife & I is a long time customer that Dan worked on our car's for over 10 years. I had a talk with Dan 4 days ago to let him know the problem with my car. So he set up an appointment to bring my car in at 9:00am. I waiting for Dan to arrive at his shop and when he arrived he mentioned right away in the parking lot to me that he's not accepting any cars for the next 2 months. I was so surprised when he declined me in person and said he never talk to me. He said that I probably was talking to a different guy when he's the only guy that's on the phone. He know about this appointment and refused due to only 2 mechanics working in the shop. Now he's not respecting any of his customers no mater if they are old time valuable customers. So disappointed and now I'm planning to bring my cars to another mechanic because of this issues. Dan don't care and he said go right ahead and he will tear up or files. Check out the other customers feedback that gave Dan a low rating. They're sure not lying. I say "WHAT COMES AROUND GO AROUND"!! It's all KARMA... !~!

Can highly recommend this shop! Honest, fair, kind. They evaluated a possible used car I was considering buying from someone else, and wow was I glad they looked it over, as it had lots of big problems and would have meant only trouble. The people in the front office at Dan's were helpful and courteous and went the extra mile to make me comfortable while I waited for the mechanic to look at the car. The mechanic was thorough with his assessment and found all sorts of major issues that the business selling this car did not mention to me, not only including major mechanical problems but also showing a general air of serious neglect (low on vital fluids such as brake fluid and coolant, etc) that indicated it would not be wise to buy any vehicle from that lot. Please give Dan's a try for your basic automotive needs, I would trust them with anything I needed. They even gave me free persimmons to take with me!

I've been going to Dans for over 15 years w multiple cars They have always been straight forward and do the right thing. I much prefer them over the dealership. They like to use oem parts but will use after market if you request and are always honest on what is best for you.

I love taking my cars to Dan's Auto. He is a very reliable mechanic that does high quality work for a fraction of the dealerships and exactly in line with reliable mechanics. I have also found him to be honest with me and turned me down when the repair was more expensive than it was worth to pursue. I truly trust Dan with my cars.

About 10yrs ago, Dan's was arguably the best auto repair shop in Elk Grove. My experience was great. In the past few years, I've seen some undesirable reviews. I recently needed work done and went back to Dan's because of MY past experience. This time was just like I remember. Their communication was great. They fixed my car very fast. The cost was fair. Bottom line, for me Dan's is still my auto shop.

If you are looking for a mechanic in Elk Grove, I would refer anyone to Dan’s Auto Repair whole heartedly! My family’s has been going to Dan’s for over a decade. I recently moved out of the area but with unforeseen car troubles I continue to take my business to Dan’s. Having an older jeep can be tough to find the correct parts and mechanics with the knowledge to get the job done well and efficiently. Dan’s has consistently provided the most knowledge, professionalism, guidance and most importantly, the best prices I’ve come across. I truly feel like they have mine and my vehicles best interest in mind as they are transparent about the repair needs and overall process.

Dan’s Auto Repair in Elk Grove is hands down the best place for car repairs. Great prices, great customer service. They will diagnose, explain and quote a reasonable price! We have 4 different car makes and their mechanic has done repairs on all of them. I highly recommend Dan’s.

Complete ripoff, they lie on the parts installed, they claim they installed OEM part and it turns out to be after market, over pricing and twisting words all the time. Never coming back and i will take them to small claim court.

Finding even more issues with Dan’s Auto Repair — 3 years after they worked on our vehicle. In September 2022, the catalytic converter was stolen off our 2001 Tahoe. Based on a family recommendation, we took it to Dan’s. They told us storage would be free since they were doing the repairs. Our insurance at the time, Progressive, paid them based on a quote that included OEM parts. We were told repairs would take time due to backorders. Months went by (six total), and when we asked about aftermarket parts, we were initially told insurance wouldn’t cover them — which wasn’t true. Eventually they agreed to use aftermarket. When we picked up the Tahoe in March 2023, we were told, It would run louder because it had an aftermarket part. We were now being charged storage fees — despite previously being told storage was free. Fast forward to late 2025: we started getting a P0171 (bank 1) code. After replacing other needed parts, I did a full inspection myself and discovered the real issue. The technician who replaced the catalytic converter: Did NOT install the metal ring gasket Did NOT properly bolt the exhaust back to the engine connection Cut the original bolts, bent them, and left the exhaust improperly secured. The vehicle was driven like this for 2.5 years, which could have severely damaged the catalytic converter. When we called, there was no accountability — only attempts to blame us for the time that had passed. We regret ever taking our vehicle here. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend this shop. If you have taken your vehicle to Dan’s for an insurance claim through progressive and felt robbed or that they don’t do what they should have please comment so we can add you to the fraud investigation. I know the main Progressive Fraud Investigator in CA and she is ready to help.
