I had a cylinder head rebuilt here about 3 years ago. Had two intake valves and guides "replaced", cleaned, I gave them valve stems to also install, and decked for a metal headgasket. Paid about $350. Anyway, that motor just blew the headgasket so decided to take it apart myself. I inspected the head and noticed that the two intake valves I had Don replace were leaking from the valve stem..... Strange. I removed the keepers and took out the valves; there was a lot more wear on those intake valves compared to all the other valves. Upon further inspection, the valve guides were NEVER REPLACED, instead it was "KNURLED". I trusted them to do good work, instead I was charged for new valve guides yet they are the originals just knurled. Stay away from this place if you are machining your engine for performance. Go to M&B Cylinder Heads instead.

Needed some bearings pressed off my rear axles to do a rear disc brake conversion and they did it very quickly for a great price. I will definitely go back there again for future projects.

Friendly and knowledgeable. I was in a bind a while ago, they made short work of my issue and gave me fair price. I highly recommend these guys.

I broght in a VR6 12v into the shop (they told me they had all the correct tools for machining).. No work done for about 3 months only clean the Pistons and short block... charge me for polishing a crank when that never happened... and wasn't able to get a Torque plate for my engine. The only reason they didnt sugjest one was they didnt have one... Lost my number 3 times never called when they said they would either .... Very unprofessional, unorganized, and not good customer service, but good Machinist. Just make sure the shop you bring your engine to has all the correct machining tools.

Don's Machine Shop resurfaced my racing flywheel for my 05 Subaru STI that was a billet flywheel with harder metal to resurface. They gave me a time frame of 1-2 hours and got it done right before they closed! Took about 45 minutes. Their work is phenomenal and I highly recommend using them for all your machine work!

I got to say thanks to Don's. They've helped me way beyond what they should have. I did my 1st rebuild (ford 351w), Brad and the crew gave me all the info I needed, plus. Starting my second rebuild (dodge 3.0) cause Don's made the 1st possible. Thanks to Don's. (I don't write reviews, they impressed me this much). 3rd rebuild is now being planned, and I don't think of myself as an auto mechanic, but I can do the work with Don's help. Thanks again

I have worked with these mechanics for decades and really appreciate their expertise and attitude. Very helpful and timely in helping to rebuild my engines Only after Covid closed numerous machine shops did they fall behind in timeliness since many new customers sought them out still being in business. What was done in weeks now takes months with engines stacking up. Still, they worked on, finding better ways and space to do the work. Have nothing but respect for them still being in business. Thank you and carry on.

I brought my axles to them for some press work involving axle bearings and retainers. Super-reasonable pricing and quality work. Fast turnaround, too. Friendly, and knowledgeable staff. Would use them again. I live in Beaverton and it's totally worth the drive.

They fixed a wheel barring another shop messed up and refused to fix, for even cheaper than the first shop charged. They provide QUALITY work and have amazing customer service all the way from the wonderful woman at the front desk to the guys doing the work in the shop. You guys got a customer for life! Highly recommend this shop

I really don't even know where to start. After seeing all the stars and reviews, I felt like Don's Machine Shop was the place to go. I wanted them to build me 2 motors, one was a 6.2 LS the other was a 5.3 LS. Both Gen 4 GM motors. I received the 6.2 back first. After installation and starting it for the first time, there was a racket that was so loud I thought it was leterally falling apart. After further inspection I discovered that they installed the heads backwards, the steam ports were now in the back of the motor instead of the front of the motor. They informed me they didnt want to swap the heads and instructed me block off the ports in the back and drill out the front. They said they would graciously provide the block off plates, free of charge. After a month of back-and-forth with them (they actively and continuously denied responsibility and fault) I took it to another shop where they found 5.3 head gaskets on my 6.2 motor. I contacted Don's with the results at which point Brad made me bring the 5.3 gaskets that the other shop removed from my 6.2 for proof. When I showed up to Don's, Dave the mechanic that installed the gaskets, was extremely unprofessional when confronted with his mistake. That's when they finally accepted fault and begrudgingly paid the other shop to fix it. At no point did they offer any apologies for his actions. At this point I could not trust them to correctly complete the work on my 5.3 and requested it back. They helped me load it, including an actual tub of nuts bolts with no organization whats so ever. Come to find out not all of it was there, the cam shaft was missing along with several gaskets and a set of head bolts, which they later provided me with new ones. The block and heads looked like they were freshly machined and rebuilt. Both heads ended up having cheap steel valves installed and incorrect shims underneath the valve springs. One exhaust valve had a gouge in the stem causing it to bind. I ended up having another shop tear down the 6.2 after finding Don's installed cheap valves in it as well. It wasn't worth my time or effort to contact them about the atrocious work they do. Make sure you tell them you want quality parts installed or provide them yourself. Better yet find a quality shop that is going to do the work for you all together. That way you won't have to go through the hassle I went through.

I delivered my 216 motor on June 3, 2024. As of November 12, 2024, I have yet to receive my motor. I have requested updates multiple times, but I have not received a single return call. The "Part owner Keith" has provided nothing but excuses and has refused to allow me to speak with the other part owner. I was informed that my motor would be ready two weeks ago. After waiting for two weeks after that period, I contacted them today, only to find that it remains unfinished. They have misplaced parts and are attempting to charge me for services I did not authorize. The disorganization of this establishment is evident from previous reviews on this and other platforms, such as Yelp. It would be best for them to cease operations.

Great machine shop. Currently in the process of rebuilding differentials on my jeep yj. Needed to make set up bearings for making adjustments to the gear mesh. Dons machine shop set me right up, pressing on my bearings for me and making me a set-up race for the pinion bearing. Also have my engine block there for a bore and hone. Great work love these guys.

Make sure when you drop off your part, you pick it up from the same person you drop off so your price doesn’t change. I paid more than what I was quoted when I dropped off by picking up my part from someone else.

after letting dons build my motor a few days after I got it running the engine started knocking. After this happened I called dons and they offered to rebuilt it again. The knocking sound ended up being the valve seats they installed falling out of the head. After then rebuilt the engine a second time and I put the car back together I noticed the camshaft gear and the crankshaft gear timing marks do not line up (I paid to have the engine assembled) And after cranking it a few times to see if it had compression I believe something may have failed inside the engine again from the noises it made rotating . I don’t think dons deserves a 3rd chance at building and costing more of my money and time. Only go here if u want headaches of pulling engine in and out of a car bc they cannot machine or assemble the engines correctly.lets not forget about the parts they painted without asking and stripping the zink coating off of all the factory hardware in the engine and all the hardware I never got back. Now I have thousands of dollars into a engine that is better off as scrap metal thanks to everyone Dons Customer Hunter engine Z24

I live out of town about 3 hours away and was looking for a good machine shop to do all my work on a 2003 honda s2000. Decided to take it to dons machine shop to fully build my motor with darton sleeves. They absolutely killed it, everything had perfect clearance down to the pistons rings. Everyting worked as it should and compression was perfect. Not to mention the great customer service they have. Definitely going back for my kseries and all my honda motors.

I had Dons machine and prep a 318 block, crank, and heads. They told me it was was 4 weeks out. Which they were more or less accurate on. After I picked up all pieces, I began assembling the motor. The motor was about 90% complete(rotating assembly in, heads on, cam in) I went to drop the lifters into the bores. The intake bore on cylinder 1 would not take a lifter. I called Don's and they said to try and take some 5000 grit sandpaper through the bore. That also did not work. So after all that work the motor had to be completely torn down so that the block could go back to Don's. I dropped it off at Don's and a few hours later they said it was done. They said they checked every bore and they all worked good. Come to find out the same bore was still not good. I took it back AGAIN and they insisted that the bore was fine. After getting a few more opinions I was told that the bore would not work. I ended up taking the block to a different shop that is taking care of the issue. The shop also noticed a few other things that weren't done to a high standard. Not only have I spent weeks trying to get this sorted out, but I've had to replace the brand new head gaskets that I torqued down. I also had to replace the brand new rear main seal. Overall I didn't have the best experience. Update, we got the whole motor pretty much together. We went to prime the oil pump and it was leaking out of the oil filter adapter. Come to find out Dons had given us the wrong adapter. So now we are out another week trying to find the right part.

*** Warning if you need diesel head work. We brought my son’s diesel cylinder head here for repair and waited over a month. When I picked it up on Jan. 9 at 3pm, I paid over $700 in cash (with my 20yr old son’s hard earned money) and was told it was ready. As his mom, I have no knowledge of what a cylinder head should look like, so I trusted it was repaired when they loaded it into my vehicle. When I got it home (3.5 hours away), my son, who is a diesel tech, and his mechanic friend immediately saw new chips and damage that were not there before. The head was unusable and he had to buy a completely new one. We gave the shop time to make it right, but nothing was done. If you use this shop, do not pay cash.
