I chose here because of positive reviews, but was totally disappointed! My car went to limp mode while I was visiting SF. After having my car for a day, they charged me about $850 for changing battery and spark plugs that has been changed recently. The car was still NOT FIXED. When I asked what is the next step and when I should expect to have my car ready, they said they don't know and there are "thousands" of possibilities that they need to rule out. Their tone was quite condescending and ultimately they couldn't fix my car. Update in July 2025: as you see in their public comment, the owner describes a customer as " unreasonable" if they simply ask when should they expect their car back? It is clear that they couldn't diagnose the problem after a day and half. The battery can't be 6 years old because the car isn't 6 years old and has been maintained by Mazda dealerships regularly. Finally, this is the only time that I am writing a negative review simply because I think it was truly a disappointing experience and customer service. Hoping this comment will help them to change.

We came to Mike for help in inspecting a used car that we had recently purchased. Despite being busy he was able to squeeze us in for the inspection. He was super helpful and could tell that we were pretty clueless so he spent a great deal of extra time to try to teach us while doing the inspection. He even went out of his way to try to find us a better deal and to save us on future problems. Please do yourself a favor and at least come get a second opinion from Mike. He is super genuine and looks like he really loves what he's doing. He's very upfront and best of all local! Mike, if you're reading we are really thankful for all that you taught us and are going to do our homework.

Some jerk had a bunch of trash bags on top of his car on the freeway and 2 of them fell off. We ran over one because we could not move out of the way, we could only slow down. Thank God we are safe but 1 of the garbage bags got tied up around the drive shaft. We tried to pull some of the garbage bag off but we still needed a professional so we ended up at extra care auto repair. We met Mike, he was extra professional and quick. I 100% recommend them

First time leaving a review for an auto repair shop. What Mike did was above and beyond, I'd love to help others who need help. I was stranded in San Bruno when my car completely died on the road. I figured the alternator failed, so the car for sure won't drive. I live in East Bay, not familiar with the area, so was going through Google reviews to figure out where to tow my car to. The 4.9 review immediately caught my eye. I called Extra Care. Mike asked about the symptoms, and told me to stay there. While I was expecting Mike to help get a tow truck, to my surprise, he showed up in about 10 minutes without a tow truck. I was surprised. How would he get the car to the shop? Out of my imagination, using an battery pack, Mike was able to drive the car to the shop. The car kept stalling, Mike just kept restarting in Neutral. I never thought one could do that. This guy really knows what he is doing. From the moment I was stranded to the car was in the shop, it was all under one hour. I guess any one knows how painfully long you would need to wait for a tow truck. Mike is doing above and beyond to help someone save time. The car was fixed the next day with a very reasonable price. Mike showed me where the problem was and explained why it might happened. That was nice. He is really passionate with what he does. 5 Star! I hope this review can help more people who need help with a great service!

Mike is the best mechanic in the Bay Area. He's so honest with what is truly needed on your car, what isn't needed and the prices are fair with his estimates. He communicates everything being done and costs at each stage. We've recommended Mike to every friend because he's just that good. We had a 200k tune-up last week and the price was way lower than the dealership quoted. Also, give the dogs a nice pat on the head, friendly and don't mind Fresno and his excitement. He's still a puppy. If I could give 10 stars I would. My husband and I truly recommend Mike and his staff of excellent mechanics.

Just took my car here for new brakes and got great service on my Subaru. Mike is the real deal. Turnaround time was fast. Really great communication by phone and text. He took the time to explain everything to me and I thought the prices were fair. I'll be back and highly recommend. No incentive for this review - just happy to have found someone local. They are open later and prefer Zelle or cash but accept credit cards for 2% extra (because of fees). Thank you!

Breaking down in Bay Area on our way home to Oregon on a Sunday before the New Year holiday wasnβt the most convenient timing but finding Mike made everything better. When no other auto shops we contacted had room in their schedule, Mike made space and even fetched our car from the place weβd had it towed to and got to work sorting out what was wrong and getting it fixed. So great to work with stand-up guy like Mike and get back on the road for a reasonable price, in just a few hours. Awesome service all around.

I chose this auto shop because of their outstanding reviews and found that the praise is well-deserved. (1) Their prices are competitive. (2) They donβt try to sell you services you donβt need. They genuinely care about their customers, believing that building trust leads to long-term success. (3) The owner, Mike, has been a mechanic for about four decades and brings great expertise to his work. From now on, I plan to visit this auto shop regularly for oil filter changes and check-ups. When you get an oil filter change here, the service includes a full and thorough inspectionβnot just a quick look. Their inspection is detailed and much better than the basic service you might get at other shops that charge about $90 for an oil filter change and a visual inspection. I used to go to those cheaper shops, but now I want a more comprehensive check-up for better maintenance, so Iβll be going to Extra Care Auto Repair. I brought my car to this shop to get a second opinion after bringing my car to the Honda dealership for an oil change and then being told that I needed $2,000 of work done on my new car. Mike confirmed that none of that work needed to be done except replacing my tires which the dealership said I could wait on however due to them being almost bald plus the rain it would be unsafe for me to drive in. Mike took the time to explain what my car really needed done, cared about not having me spend money on what I donβt need, my safety, and just me as a person. It was a great experience and Mike will now be my mechanic, which is not easy to find someone who is passionate about what they do and genuinely cares about people. Itβs a huge relief that now I donβt have to stress about something going wrong with my car because I have complete confidence that Mike will make sure that my car will be well taken care of and have my safety as a top priority. Shoutout to Luna, one of his sweet dogs, that kept me company while his team worked on my car.

This place is the best. Go here. I've loved this auto spot ever since I found it last year. I first went there with a bunch of recommendations from Firestone, and was looking for a second opinion. Mike took a look at my car and said that the majority of what Firestone had recommended wasn't needed, and I've trusted him, and this shop, ever since. He and his team always go above and beyond in taking such great care of my car, are super accommodating with pickup & drop-off, and have always quoted me super fairly. They're just great people, AND they have amazing dogs (shout out to Luna!). Thank you all so much for everything you've done for me and my car- it means the world.

I had a worrying situation with my car. It was late on a Saturday night, around 10:30 PM, when my check engine light suddenly came on. I decided to call Extra Care Auto Care anyway, even though it was so late. To my surprise, the owner texted back and told me to come right over. When I got there, it was almost midnight but he spent a half hour explaining everything to me in simple terms, like I was five years old. I really appreciated that he took the time to make sure I understood what was going on. Highly recommend!

I accidentally had my car door latch stuck in the parking lot, while nobody is working on Sundays, I found Extra Care Auto Repair through google map, and I was able to speak to Mike . HE IS AN ANGEL! I came to this shop because my air conditioning on my van stopped working and I wanted to see what the problem was and how much it would be to fix it. This business had great reviews on yelp and google so I wanted to try it out. And I wanted to see if this was a shop I could regularly come to as I recently moved close-by. I walked in and after roaming around to find someone, I started speaking with an employee who said the owner Mike was not in. He said in order to inspect the air conditioning, it would be at least $200 which is also their price for an oil change. So I should just get an oil change and they would do many things including looking into the air conditioning. He didnβt say it was a full air conditioning check. Yet he said they could let me know what the problem might be and he would note it. I didnβt really need an oil change. I donβt think I was even half way there. I decided to try it out and see how this place was. The owner Mike called me back multiple hours later letting me know my car was done. I asked him about the air conditioning and he said he didnβt even look into the air conditioning and that I came for an oil change. He said it would be $240 to look into what the problem was with the air conditioning. He said that was just to inspect it though and no guarantee of fixing anything. I was irritated and he then told me I was a cheap person. We were on speaker phone in the car with my girlfriend and her friend who both said they didnβt like this guy, were not comfortable with him, that he didnβt know how to talk to people, the way he spoke was not professional, and that I shouldnβt work with him, because there are other mechanics I could go to that were good. Ultimately I decided to go pick up my car. It was a very awkward conversation with the owner in his little office room. I went to pay and I wasnβt very comfortable paying, because this is not what I came there for. I decided to pay uncomfortably and observed the way the owner Mike was and he seemed pretty arrogant and with an attitude after done of βhere are your keys. Go walk over to your car and get it yourself.β I was trying to get input on what he saw in the car on his service as well and he casually mentioned multiple things he saw and didnβt seem interested in explaining much at all. Really weird experience here especially contrasting to the other good reviews for this business. I guess he goes above and beyond for other customers. Wasnβt the case with me.

this shop is 6/10. i called them to tell them that there was something wrong with the car, my carβs semi- auto, and that the pressure signal wouldn't turn off. they worked on it. he worked on the left wheel bearing because it was making a sound. the left wheel bearing hub assembly cost 229 to be changed. 75 for all lug nuts to be replaced. one hour labor was 180. so stupid of me to not check that the manual was on in my car and so he charged me 270 for that. and says that he worked 1.5 hours on it. sensor check was 90. it cost me 873.36$ for everything. they had good ratings so i went to call them. but the owner i guess is grumpy lol, he sounds dismissive on call. but yeah this shop is fine. π«£

Mike and the guys at Extra Care are the absolute best. Aside from just being great technicians and mechanics, Mike is the most knowledgeable and transparent person I've ever dealt with in an auto shop. Maybe even just in general. He showed me and explained everything that could be wrong with my car and didn't try to upsell me on anything. In fact, he actively educated me on why certain things were a priority and why others weren't. Speedy service, clear and honest communication, extremely fair prices, and the most peace of mind I've had with my aging car that I can think of.
