Foreign Affairs did an oil and filter change and checked the entire vehicle to have it prepared for a long trip. Like always, the work was done perfectly. In all the years I have used Foreign Affairs to maintain several vehicles I never had a problem. Most appreciated is their honesty and workmanship.

We have been taking our 2009 Volvo to Foreign Affairs for 14 years. They have always kept our car running smoothly. We have always received excellent, timely service. I wouldn't take our car anywhere else.

To keep it simple, this place is amazing. What a great shop to have in Duluth. They were so professional, knowledgable, great prices, and treated me like family and not just a customer. I had my Volvo serviced here and will 100% be coming back. Definitely put your trust in Foreign Affairs. You will not be disappointed.

We've been taking our 2006 Mini Cooper to Foreign Affairs for years. Before that, it was our 1990 Volvo 240. Frankly, they are the only ones I'd trust. They give you an honest, straightforward and knowledgeable assessment of what you need and what it will cost. Equally important, they will tell you what you don't need. Others may claim expertise, but Jeff and his crew demonstrate it. They've done regularly scheduled maintenance on our Mini as well as diagnostics and minor service. Also performed major work on the cylinder head for valve repairs. In all cases the service has been professional and the quality of their work exceptional. Our recent visit to Foreign Affairs was for a thorough check-up. The Mini is garaged most of the winter, but it will be back in the Spring for the recommended work to keep it running great and looking good for another 150,000 miles.

The people at Foreign Affairs are amazing. About a year and a half ago I bought a BMW. From the very beginning I had problems with this car. Lots of problems. I heard only good things about them so that's where I took my car. Jeff explained everything they were doing every time I brought my car in, every step of the way. I was always treated well and with respect. I never felt that they dealt with me any differently because I was a woman and maybe didn't know anything about cars! This has been an expensive year and a half but they charged me fairly and in fact were very considerate and thoughtful about that process. I would absolutely recommend Foreign Affairs to anyone with a foreign car. You could not do better.

Foreign Affairs is always honest. If it doesn't require a fix, they tell you. I thought I needed a valve gasket replacement, and they said it wasn't necessary at the moment. They didn't charge me for the inspection. The people behind the desk are always so polite and so CALM. It is a very calm and caring environment.

We have been bringing our cars to foreign affairs for 20 years now. They are always our first choice. Recently two of our cars broke down on the same day and Jeff was able to get them in the very next day. By the following day we had both cars back. This is a great business. We have always been happy with their service. Highly recommend.

Jeff and Andrew are thorough and are thorough enough to relate inspection details completed by their crew for a variety of vehicles. Their completed diagnosis was helpful in determining next steps (if necessary- yes, they were.) FAs central location/easily accessible garage makes it easy to support this local business, and as a new resident, it is helpful to have a resource of their collective caliber in town.

Honestly, this is the first workshop of this kind in the area in my entire huge (unfortunately!) experience - they are ABSOLUTELY transparent about prices, they are COMPLETELY honest with diagnostics and they definitely won't charge you an arm and a leg if there's no valid reason for that. I'm taking my 2013 BMW X3 to them, it's a work in progress as of now. So far I'm amazed. 🤩

Every time I launch up Ski Hill Road scrambling through a layer of fresh snow, I feel guilty for not having written this earlier this year… Years ago, there was a green 1975 Saab 99LE on the lot at Archer Import Motors. It spoke to me. Friends and family said, “don’t do it Keith, how will you get it repaired?” I bought it. I loved it. I wish I had it still. How did I get it repaired? The grapevine produced a guy named Jeff who had a passion for Swedish cars. I got his number from a friend of mine who raced turbos on the ice. I think the phone number is the same after all these years, come to think of it. I remember picking Ingrid I up in a Duluth alley where Foreign Affairs got its start. He always got the old girl going again at a price that I could handle. Sometimes, he would find some other low hanging fruit of an issue that he would take care of just because of his passion for these great cars. My career has taken me all over the country. When I have come back home, I have been fortunate to be the benefactor of Foreign Affairs skill and stewardship of foreign cars over and over. My V70. My XC 70. Our S60s. Most recently, I have had a differential problem with my 2015 XC60. This issue spanned over a year with the Volvo authorized dealer/servicer in Florida to whom I entrusted my vehicle. Misdiagnosed over and over, the issue was never resolved, and I was left driving the car in front wheel drive mode only (which defeats traction control and lights up your dash, incidentally). We made the decision to move back to Minnesota’s North Shore last year and I couldn’t wait to bring Ingrid V to Foreign Affairs to see if Jeff and his team could end this nightmare. End it they did. Just in time for the first snowfall, too! A refurbed diff with a 3-year warranty and a bunch of skill and experience put my car back the way it should be. My XC60 has been a dream this winter. And what a winter it has been! Thank you to Jeff, Andrew and the gang. I am coming back for more!

The people that work here are all so kind and understanding and are very thorough with their work. When I explain the symptoms my car is having, they listen to me fully and take everything into account. They are also respectful regardless of my knowledge on cars and I did not feel intimidated walking in and talking to them about my car at all. They also took their time to explain everything they did for my car and what exactly is happening with it, in the terms I can understand. I felt very confident that my car was fixed leaving the garage and I can’t recommend it enough. If you are a woman looking for a car place you will feel comfortable going to, definitely try this place first. I have been looking for a car place that I can feel comfortable in the environment and confident that my car is fixed and I found it here and so I just want to tell everyone that is searching for one as well.

A friend questioned why I take my car to "such an expensive repair shop." Simply put, because they fixed my car (well) and charged me far less than the dealer shop quote. This "expensive" place saved me $1,000. What's more, they will actually tell you if you don't need something fixed, even if you think you might. This is a local business, run by skilled, honest, hard-working people.

I had a blown head gasket on my Prius and brought it to Foreign Affairs of Duluth based on a recommendation from a coworker — and I’m so glad I did. Jeff and the team provided absolutely top-notch service from start to finish. They were transparent, honest, and incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. I asked a lot of questions and always felt like I was in good hands. I really appreciated his thoroughness and their advice when I asked. The initial estimate was high (as a blown head gasket typically is), but then they actually came in a couple hundred less than what I was expecting — with a costly repair like that, every little bit helps, so that was a rare and welcomed surprise. The shop is conveniently located near me, and their follow-up several days after the repair to make sure everything was running smoothly still was the cherry on top. The car is now running super smooth, no warning lights, and sounds great. They made a stressful situation so much easier. Truly one of the best service experiences I’ve had. Highly recommend!

This place had my saab for damn near a year, took them 8 months to bring in one part of the many. Today is the 5th of December 2025 after all that time went with them having my car and vehicle waiting on parts I came to pick up my vehicle and paid off a car that doesn't turn over and everything on the dash is still lit up notification wise. Every time I called to check on the part coming in and where I was sitting at entirely with all the bells and whistles the balance every single time would change. They're going to have to fix this car, the way we spoke and discussed about. Told me my battery wasn't taking a charge so they were putting a new one in, or at least one that would hold a charge. I drove it to work and the very next time I put the key in the car it was dead. This is not the way you're supposed to do business and treat customers especially when it took you guys so long to fix this, and so long to bring apart, that I found myself numerous times they had Apple opportunity to get this Saab back to tip top. But felt it was okay though pretty much just rig it up so it's driving standard was content to moderate. I need this taken care of immediately for the second time now.

I needed a lot of work done on my Volkswagen. I called Foreign Affairs for a quote, and they charged half of what the dealership offered me. They got me in quick, did a great job, and offered free follow-up care if there was a complication. Jeff was super friendly and knowledgeable. I will definitely be going there for any future issues with my Volkswagen.

Most recently, we had a trailer hitch installed on our vehicle. We had previously consulted with another company in town and they were unable or unwilling to do the work. At Foreign Affairs they are always pleasant and professional and get jobs scheduled and completed in a timely fashion. I think their fees are reasonable and comparable to other repair and maintenance services in the area.

I am long overdue in writing this review. Foreign Affairs has worked on our Volvo, our Audi, and they have kept our much beloved, ancient MB wagon in amazing shape. Some repairs have been predictably expensive, many have been much lower than we originally anticipated. I trust them and depend on their judgment about our vehicles. I feel lucky we have them in Duluth!
