I drove my car to Providence from Los Angeles California. It's a 1991 Saab 900 with just over 100,000 miles on it. It lived most of its life in California, but now that it's in New England, it needs more attention due to tougher weather. After searching around on the internet for a mechanic who knows how to work with old foreign imports, I came across Howdy. When I call Howdy, he answers the phone himself. He meets with me himself, and he looks over the car himself. His prices are very reasonable, he knows what he's talking about, and he always gives me the opportunity to buy the parts that I need online and have them shipped to him, if I can find a better price than what he can find locally. He's taken care of my car for three years now. He also knows everyone in the business in this area, so if you need auto detail work or anything else he can put you into contact with the right person. If Howdy sends you, then you know that you'll be treated fairly right away. I don't know that much about cars, so it's really important for me to have someone like Howdy that I can trust in this area. I try to recommend him all the time, but it doesn't come up that often that someone is looking for a mechanic, so I'm taking the opportunity, here, on Google+. If you're looking for a mechanic, just call him. He has never charged me to take a look at my car and tell me what's going on. At his shop, you'll see that he works on all kinds of cars. Howdy is also a family man and overall just a really great guy. He's also friendly, funny, and very articulate...the kind of guy who could respectfully get along with and talk to anyone.

I recently moved to providence and I was researching places for my new regular go to mechanic and that is how I came across Howdys. I was searching for a local neighborhood place and saw his reviews and decided to check his shop out. I called on a Friday and he told me to bring it on Monday. He shoots for cars to be in and out same day and wants to devote his time to the car he has there. I was overall very happy with the service, the pricing and most importantly, him. He is a straight shooter and he didn't try to get me to do more or say I needed something that I didn't need. You'll be directly dealing with him, all the way from telephone calls, service and down to checking out and paying(at least that's what happened to me). His high ratings checked out and I'm happy I could rate him 5 stars. If you're looking for a reliable and honest shop, go check out howdys!

I had the equivalent of an emergency and I had just arrived at work. The loud metal on metal noises were scary enough that I didn’t think I could make the commute back. I contacted Howdy (trusted the reviews) and it’s true - he was super helpful, accommodating, never pushy! Brakes and rotors were done well before I was through with work. I was a walk-in as well so I was super super happy—I got home safely!

Howie is excellent! I used to take my car to the dealer for service but got tired of paying a premium. I also never fully trusted that I wasn't getting pushed for work I didn't really need. I found Howie's prices fair and he is quick. He performed some scheduled maintenance for me that would have cost a small fortune at the dealer. Further, he reviewed the car and gave me great advice on when to next expect to bring it in. No up-sell. No push for additional work. Honest, fair, and friendly. He had a variety of cars at his shop, foreign and domestic, as well as luxury and other models. The shop isn't in a fancy area of Providence so you may want to have a friend pick you up/drop you off when done (i.e. there isn't a place to go and wait). You can stay though the repair and read or get some work done (bring your own wireless) in the office but be aware its open to the work bay and can get chilly (or hot) depending on the weather.

Howdy is as honest as the day is long. The absolutely best mechanic in all of Providence. I called 10 different places to get my car up and running with the parts I bought I was turned away by all the shops besides howdy's Auto. Howdy told me to bring it in and got it running like it wasn't a thing to it. You don't bring your car to howdy you gonna wish you did, he'll save you money, time, and headaches. The best around hands down, I'll be coming to howdy's Auto every time.

I love Howdy! First of all, I brought my Hyundai Elantra 2012 in for new brakes. They were pretty messed up, and Howdy gave me a great deal. Additionally, he gave me a ride to the gym so I wouldn’t have to wait at the shop all day - he definitely did not have to do this but he was kind enough to (I even got some Providence history Info!) He’s extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Today I returned to have my car inspected and he even fixed the bolts on my plate free of charge. This place is a gem and I’m never going anywhere else. I chose to go to Howdy to get my brake pads replaced and oil changed (2003 Ford Ranger) after shopping around a bit. He got me in on the same day, even though I called in the late morning, and still managed to have the vehicle done before the end of the day. He also identified an issue with the front left hub/bearing assembly and was able to have that repaired within 24 hours, saying he'd stay late if that's what it took to get it done before I had to drive to Boston the next day. His prices are very fair, and Howdy himself is a great and friendly guy - he's clearly got a lot of business integrity. I will definitely be returning for routine maintenance, and would recommend this shop to anyone. Thank you for the stellar service Howdy!

I gave Howdy a try based on positive reviews online and was not disappointed. My initial experience made me feel that I was dealing with an honest, fair mechanic with a type of business integrity that is hard to find, especially today. I have since had him do my exhaust, brakes and ball joints. His prices are fair and competitive, service is quick and he always warranties parts and labor. I recently recommended him to my mom and plan to have him restore an old vehicle that has been sitting for 10 years. I am generally not very trusting, but feel that he is a trustworthy businessman and will be giving him all of my business going forward.

My Veloster is almost ready for hospice care, but Howdy has made she that she leaves his shop with a little more life than before. Ky first interaction with Howdy was over the phone, but it was still obvious that he was an honest and hardworking man. He puts care into getting the job done right and doesn’t try to fix this that and the other thing just to make a quick buck. Every repair I’ve had so far has been finished quickly, he can always get me in same day, and the cost is more than reasonable. Howdy is kind, honest, hardworking, patient, and skilled. Howdy’s has a “community first” feel to it, and every experience has been positive and refreshing. I recommend Howdy and the shop to everyone I can, every chance I get.
