I purchased a set of 6 Michelin tires for my one-ton dually pickup. I spent an extra $300 at McWhorter's downtown Lubbock shop because I wanted to support a local business over a national chain. After a year, I came back from a trip pulling my fifth wheel to New Mexico, and one of the inside rear tires had a total sidewall failure. McWhorter's replaced it with a Goodyear tire on a Wednesday, since they could not get the same Michelin tire. They inspected the remaining 5 tires and announced them all in great shape. Two days later, on Friday evening, I was in Tarrant County on another trip with my RV, and the other inside rear tire had the same total sidewall failure. It was after 6 pm, and I limped into a national chain tire shop the next morning. I of course did not trust the remaining 4 tires McWhorter's said were in "great shape" 2 days before, and had another set of 6 Bridgestone's put on the truck. Those were all I could find to get back on the road and make it home. I took a picture of the 2nd failed Michelin, and sent it to McWhorter's the following week when the store opened. It was the identical failure that the previous tire had 2 days prior that they inspected in their shop. In short, McWhorter's will not honor their warranty for this 2nd failure, and I am out another $2100 for a new set. I have left a voice mail on the General Manager's cell phone but have not received a call back. I do not recommend McWhorter's as they will not stand by their products. A warranty that must be claimed at their shop is not a warranty at all if you ever travel outside of Lubbock. UPDATE: General Manager did call back, admitted the cause of the failure was metal valve stems his shop put on the tires. I had asked if there was a solution to a longer stem, they suggested the metal stems. But left the rubber stem on the tire. The combination of the metal stem on the short rubber stem caused the damage. That is totally 100% McWhorter's fault. And they still won't pay for the replacement tires.

This place is amazing! I had a flat tire and it was 20 minutes from their closing time. They took me in right away and stayed open late just to fix my tire. It took them 20 minutes and they were done! They didn't even charge me a thing! These guys have excellent service.

Honesty and integrity!! Those are the words that come to mind when dealing with McWhorter Tire & Auto. My Tech student's vehicle needed work done and McWhorter's was recommended to us. I knew what needed to be done to the vehicle since we had it diagnosed when she was home, but time didn’t allow us to get it done over Christmas break. I called and spoke with Mike, and just talking with him on the phone, he immediately made me feel like I’d chosen the right place. He was beyond nice, very informative and helpful! When my daughter dropped off her truck, they were able to quickly give her a ride back to campus. The estimate was in line with what our usual mechanic back at home would have charged for the job and the final bill was just as expected. Before doing the work, Mike even called to ask some additional questions regarding the “symptoms” just to be sure the job really needed to be done. He commented that they just didn’t want to charge us to do a job that may not be necessary–which really impressed me. When the truck was ready, my daughter was going to have a friend drop her off. When that friend’s class ran late and my daughter had errands that HAD to be taken care of, we once again called Mike and, thankfully, he was able to send someone to her dorm to pick her up and take her back to the shop. This is customer service at it’s finest and that is something that you just don’t always find anymore. I can’t say enough nice things about our experience with McWhorter Tire & Auto Downtown; if we ever need work done on any vehicle while in Lubbock, McWhorter’s will be doing that work. I wish I could give them 10 stars, they deserve every one of them! Thank you so very much!!!

This place is the best!! Better than the big tire shops cause they take care of their customers especially college students who parents are five hours away! They took excellent care of my son and told us what really needed to be done after we got horrible horrible horrible service at discount. 2/19/19 I called yesterday to the downtown location, they thought they might be able to do a front end alignment and an oil change by end of day. Discount Tire did hang on to my truck about an hour longer than I thought they would. By the time I got to the downtown location, another vehicle showed up so that pushed me back. I was told ..If I got my truck there by 7:30am that my truck should be ready by lunch. This morning I was still told I should have my truck back by lunch. 2014 Ford F-150. Front end alignment and oil change. I called just before 2:30, I figured the truck was ready they just forgot to call me. NOT THE CASE. When I called at 2:30 I was told they needed about another 30 min. It’s just after 4 pm and I’m Just now getting my truck back. I was told the alignment would be $65 and oil change $31.99. I think it was Mike that told me my total was $156. I’m figuring in my head how $65 plus $31 can equal $156. While Mike is ringing me up, he discovers they forgot to “add the price of the oil change”. NOT THE CASE Again, they didn’t DO the oil change. I told him that yesterday And this morning I was quoted $65. He tells me that’s the price if they don’t have to get a cam kit. My bill was double what I was quoted and I was never called and asked if it was ok to continue. My bill was DOUBLE what I was quoted AND they forgot to do the oil change. He asked if I wanted to bring it back tomorrow for an oil change ;-) He did not off $20 like I was supposed to be grateful for that. I’ve been there before for an Inspection. This was my first time using them for any type of service. Unfortunate.

I went on the morning of May 20th at about 9 am for a slow leak in a tire. I was told they could get to it butbit would be an hour and a half wait. Nice employees for sure yet I wasn't told what the problem was after I paid. The next morning I still had a leak so I took it to the location on 50th and after an hour and half wait I was told it "may" have been the valve stem that was leaking so they replaced it and I was charged again even after showing them my receipt from the previous day. Silly me for thinking it was fixed the first time and even dumber me for expecting them to stand behind their work and not charging me. Oh well, hard lesson learned.

Good place to get the maintenance done. I haven't been to other places but I am happy with this so didn't check with others. Got inspection done for 7$ without waiting. For alignment they charged 65$, that day I was in queue but was offered a ride to my office. Nice to get a ride, when your vehicle is dropped for service right. Looking forward to have other services like engine oil change etc.,

Would 100% recommend this place! My son and I were stuck on the side of the road with a blown trailer tire. We called a few places and they wouldn’t help. As soon as I called McWhorter they were more than happy to help and so friendly! We were 4 hours from home and with me being a woman with her young son was very scared to be stuck at night on the side of the road. The guys that came to save us were so nice and made us feel safe!! This is one of the times I wish I could give more than 5 stars!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

Fantastic 5 star service! Friendly, courteous, professional. Had a tire issue while traveling…called ahead from an hour away since there were absolutely no tire places between me and Lubbock. They didn’t have the size I needed, but immediately located a couple choices for me, offering to obtain it so I could drop by to get it changed. Even though they seemed busy w people’s vehicles, they had the new tire when I finally got there and were obliged to change it out immediately since it wasn’t on my vehicle, and because they had a decent sized parking lot I was able to take my spare off and put the new one on and get back on the road, all within 30 minutes of my arrival! Thank you guys!

McWhorter's was super helpful in fixing my tire! I originally went to Discount Tire and they told me that they wouldn't be able to fix it and the only solution was to spend over $350 to buy a brand new tire. McWhorter's not only fixed it, but they had it done quickly and didn't charge me after the appointment. I would highly recommend this place to anyone needing a tire patched up!
