New owner of this establishment is a world-class scumbag. Went in for a "free" estimate, and walked out with a $275 bill for "work" this degenerate claims he did on my car. What a joke. A formerly good mechanic (the older owner, Zac Gerby, RIP), this new owner is a shyster and will try to lie to you, then steal from you, then claim he must be paid in (cash only????) for the "work" you now owe him for. I came in with potentially 2 very good pieces of business here (one car mechanical and the other cosmetic) and was so hurt as a customer by the business practices, I had to write something here. After paying and wishing just to leave this horrible experience behind, this owner was harassing with his language and belligerent with his tone. This is a terrible place to bring your car and I advise all to STAY AWAY!

I have never said, "cash only" to any customer as I take all major card and I have never gotten argumentative either. I was referred to Gabriel by a coworker and I have been going there since. I got an old, cheap car, so I need to bring it to the shop quite often. Gabriel always makes reasonable suggestions and once even made me aware of a more cost effective fix I wasn't aware of (while my mindset was: just replace it). I somehow always left other shops with around $800 less in my pocket, no matter what I brought the car in for. Such surprises never happened to me once so far at Monroe Brake & Motor. I definitely recommend this shop. Without Gabriel I would be driving a different car by now. But thanks to him I keep on getting more miles out of my little Chevy while not braking the bank. For me, that's what I'm looking for in shop.

Monroe Brake is my favorite auto shop. I have used the bigger, chain mechanic shops. I always felt I was being ripped off or another problem would surface days (and lots of money) after a "repair." I went to Monroe Brake and Motor service for a few issues my vehicle was having. I called ahead and they got me right in. The owner was right at the shop to make certain I was welcomed. Immediately recognized the clean and professional environment. Super convenient location right near East and Alexander. Not many bonafide shops in that area. I was shuttled to my work, they promptly called me with the estimate before starting the job. Very fair price and great work. All issues handled and it's running like it's new!! The Customer Service is Excellent and by far some of the best I've encountered. The owner is a consummate professional, highly knowledgeable in his field and very easy to communicate with. Called ahead to see how much a NYS inspection costs ($20) and made an appointment for 11/10/25 at 11am. My partner took our 2008 Hyundai to the appointment while I was at work. The man I talked to on the phone was the same guy that “helped” my partner at the shop. In the time is took for this guy to drive our car a few feet into the garage, he apparently noticed the back brakes and front tires needed work. He told my partner it wouldn’t pass inspection, and that they could start working on the car right away and it would cost $800!!?!?! He also said he doesn’t want to inspect the car because he knows it will fail and that would go down on our record! My partner left after mr employee kept asking him to call me about get the work done/ “tell her to call later so we can schedule the work” I wish I knew the name of this liar that “helped us”. First of all, it’s an old car so we knew it might not pass inspection, but we need the inspection failure extension documentation in case we get pulled over. Failing an inspection does not go on any record so idk why he would say that. We took the car somewhere else and it passed inspection so I know he was lying about the brakes and tires. But even if he wasn’t lying, in what world does 2 tires and brakes cost $800??? Hate to give a 1 star review on a business that seems to have a good reputation, but this man lied to us and tried to take advantage of us, I hope management deals with him.
