hey look I’m going to be honest, I wasn’t convinced by them the first time I came. I came back and they fixed my problem under the warranty they give for their work so they held up their promise. They also didn’t try to push too hard on all the other work I need done which I appreciate. Thanks Mike!

Newman's did a great job servicing my heavy duty Ram 3500. They provided a loaner vehicle and Joe kept me informed of progress of the repairs along the way. I highly recommend Newman's for any vehicle service.

Very positive experience with this shop! Very welcoming and Joe made sure to go through all the details on initial inspection and the team was quite thorough analyzing the problem to find the solution (which they did). Definitely going back for future check ups/repairs

Joe and his team provided excellent customer service and overall service in general. Everyone was extremely nice and helpful. They notified me that my brake pads were critically low and needed to be replaced. The overall cost was very reasonable, especially given that they decided to repair the electrical wiring in my control panel (the original problem that brought me in) for no extra cost. And they have a complementary Lyft service too. I’m definitely going back!

DO NOT USE THEM FOR ANYTHING. They are OVERPRICED AND INCOMPETENT and don’t mind just lying to your face about the extent of work needed. (Said I needed new calipers 3k! Another spot found a small issue w the electrical component and just fixed it saving me the cost!) They’ll say expensive parts need replacing just to do more work. And they’ll over surcharge you on the labor and parts. They charge double competitors. ALSO they take FOREVER to do the work. Why even make an appointment for a time?! When you show up they tell you there’s a million appointments ahead of you and they’ll need the car for days! On top of that they always find new things they didn’t catch last time that aren’t under warranty because it’s something new they couldn’t have found (this happened to me 3 times in a row). I called around and got quotes for all the work they said needed done for half price elsewhere for the same work. Whether by incompetence or plain dishonesty you will get overcharged for work whether it is needed or for work that isn’t that they frame as work that is absolutely needed or else you’ll damage your car. Hell they couldn’t even do an oil change correctly. They told me the filter cap was stuck on and would need to be physically broken off and replaced (I’m sure at some absurd mark up) I go somewhere else then next day and they easily removed it sparing me from the labor and cost of buying a new one. Go anywhere else.

I'm not one to post reviews much but felt this was necessary. They tried to scam me $1,900. The issue I had was the red break light displaying itself on the dashboard of my car and the car would shake a little when I used the breaks, more noticeably going from high to low speeds. I left my car with Newman's this morning (10/22/2025). It took them about 3 hours to diagnose the problem since they were busy with other cars. I had no appointment so I understood, no problem. They called me and told me BOTH front and rear break pads were worn out. They told me my rear break pads were at 3 mm. That's very low, could be dangerous even. The front break pads were at 5 mm so normal ish. They told me the reason the red break light came on was because the break pads were too thin and the reason the car may have been shaking is because the front break pads were replaced but not the rotors. They said it's urgent from both the car and safety perspective and quoted me $1900. I wanted to get another inspection and brought my car to Tech one automotive on burnet road in Austin, TX. AMAZING. They were HONEST and REAL. I walked in with no appointment and they helped me almost immediately. They took me out back and showed me the rear break pad was at 6 mm not 3. The front break pad was about the same. Totally safe. The reason the red break light came on in my car is because the break fluid was low. The reason my car was shaking when I hit the break was because the rotor was not replaced with the break pad.. But its not a problem from a safety perspective. He told me to come back in 6 months and they can look at the break pads and see if they need replacement. He charged me $0 for the break fluid re fill. I almost got scammed $1,900. Do your research, get different opinions from other mechanic shops, and different quotes.

I took my car to Newman’s because it wasn’t accelerating properly. I had already been to Honda and knew my fuel injectors and spark plugs needed to be replaced. Newman’s told me they needed to do a “deeper diagnostic,” so I brought it back the next day. After that, they told me the fuel injectors, spark plugs, and PVC hose needed replacing. Fine. But once those repairs were supposedly done, they called me to ask if my car had been overheating or blowing hot air from the AC. I told them no, I had never once experienced either issue. Then suddenly I was told my radiator fan and cooling system needed to be replaced immediately or I risked engine damage. On top of that, the representative assumed I was “on vacation,” which I wasn’t — I was dealing with planning the funeral for my son’s father. The insensitivity on top of the pressure was extremely upsetting. She continued to push and insisted that if I didn’t agree to the repairs, I would need to have my car towed off their lot because she “couldn’t guarantee” I would make it home. None of these issues existed before they serviced my car. But because of how aggressively they insisted, I felt I had no choice but to agree. After those repairs, they called me again to say my car suddenly wouldn’t start because of a “bad battery” — another problem I never had before bringing my car to them. I was overwhelmed and grieving, and it felt like they just kept adding more and more on. I picked up my car on 10/31. Not even a week later, the AC started blowing hot air again. I took it back on 11/7, but they said they “couldn’t find anything.” It worked again briefly. Now on 11/17, the AC is blowing hot air again and won’t cool at all. They’re now telling me the AC compressor is bad and that there’s an oil leak — issues that were never mentioned during their so-called deep diagnostic, nor during my visit on the 7th. How are these major problems not caught earlier, especially after I already paid nearly $4,000? And now they want another $3,000. Every time I went in, there was suddenly something “new” wrong with my car — all problems that only began after they worked on it. The manager assured me I wouldn’t have an other issues but yet here we are ! This experience has left me feeling taken advantage of, especially during one of the hardest times of my life. I trusted them with my vehicle, and instead I was met with pressure, inconsistency, and never-ending new issues that make me question whether my car was even repaired properly. I cannot recommend this shop based on what I’ve been through.

I took my car in in August because all the lights came on and it was beeping. They said I needed a new valve in my transmission which came to around $4000. I got it fixed or so I thought. Less than 3 months later, I took it back in on a Friday because it was doing the exact same thing. They kept it for the day and said it was fixed so I went to get it. That lasted less than 30 miles when it did the very same thing. They were closed for the weekend so I took it back on Monday. Two days later they said I needed a brand new transmission for $11000. Really? I was told it was fine on Friday but by Tuesday I needed a whole new one. Their excuse is they can only do what the car shows them. Yet they advertise as transmission experts. I took my car and it is currently at another shop who only deals with transmissions and clutches. When I told the price for the first "fix", his response was "Damn!". So yeah, I overpaid to get my car fixed and it is still not fixed. Do not trust these guys. They overcharge and do not fix the problem. Do not be fooled by their politeness. On top of that, I have an extended warranty but they only pay a certain amount for each issue. So now, the amount going to fix the problem with another place is less than it would have been had Newmann's not used it to "fix" my car that was not ever truly fixed. Do not go here under any circumstance. Save your money and yourself from serious frustration.

They are very professional they give a very thorough examination of your entire vehicle and a very detailed estimate. Then they do a very good work on your vehicle. They also give you a accurate time line for your repairs and they usually meet if there is a problem with the time line they give you plenty of warning usually it is waiting on a part to come in. I would not take my car any other place.

I received a mailer with oil discounts that were significant so I decided to give them a try. I am so happy to have done so. The customer service is wonderful and transparent. Listening to how the front end guys interact with their customers is kind and transparent! Give them a go and you will be happy you did so.

I called and was accommodated quickly. They did an outstanding job replacing both CV axles, front and rear tire alignment, and transmission flush and fill for my Chevrolet Equinox. Jessie was the customer service contact. His diagnostic and communication skills are excellent. He was furthermore courteous to drop me off and pick me up while my car was in the shop. I would highly recommend this shop for automotive work.

Scheduling short notice was convenient. Loaner car was provided during service. Matt and Joe were both professional and courteous. Brake and rotor replacement cost was fair value and I'm pleased with the service provided.

I went to Newsman's many years ago when I was young and spent thousands fixing an old beater. At the time I was grateful. They saved my old car. I sold it not long after. I was spending more to fix it than it would ever be worth. Fast forward about 7 years, I've just had my car serviced at a euro specialist shop nearby, and I drive to Newman's because I remembered them. I only needed my emissions test done. I asked only for my emissions test done. They took well over an hour to get to my car. It failed because I hadn't driven enough miles for the car to have the proper information. But they charged me nearly $15 for a full car inspection that I did not ask for. Walked me under my car and pointed out an apparent transmission leak. Made me pay the inspection fee which I did not ask for. Friends, isn't transmission fluid red? That which I've yet to see leak from my car. They called me the next day to follow up. I asked yes, how far should I drive my car to have the appropriate levels for reading? They said they'd text me. They never did. I did my own research and went to a different shop. Passed Fine. So do what you will. But I will never go again to Newman's.

Great experience with Newman's Auto. Pleasant on the phone and in person; these guys are attentive to their work and explain things plainly and easily. No unnecessary upsells and an easy to follow recommendation report as well. I am glad to have found them and will plan to bring my car in for servicing here in the future.

I am not a local, I drove over 1000 miles to visit Austin a couple of days after being there my transmission started leaking. I had my car towed to Newman‘s and they took care of my issue in less than 24 hours. Joe is awesome and knew I had to get on the road soon to head home. They treated me right And pricing seemed to be comparable considering the situation. I’m very grateful

After receiving 3 emails and text messages from FOUR different phone numbers I've decided to leave a review. I went in for an alignment (ended up being $250 which seemed pretty steep for front wheel drive) after replacing pretty much my whole suspension myself. I did most of it myself but had another shop do the front struts and they were making a bad noise so I asked them to advise why that would be happening. They told me it was the steering rack and it was leaking and I needed it replaced and they can address it when I come back for an oil change. It is old and needs replaced eventually, but it's pretty easy to tell that's not where the noise is coming from when the tie rods are disconnected from the hub and you turn it back and forth and hear a loud creaking noise. This seems like a pretty good shop but after a lot of bad experiences I'm so sick of shops focusing more on adding another thing to the bill than actually addressing the issue I'm asking about.

I can recommend Newman's without reservation. There was a good vibe in the waiting room, as well as a fabulous large fish tank, beautifully maintained. They provided a loaner car at no cost. Staff were really friendly and helpful, and clear in their communication about services, time, and cost.

I’ve been coming to Newman’s Automotive for about three years now and wouldn’t take my car anywhere else. Randy is incredible—honest, reliable, and always takes the time to explain everything in a way that actually makes sense. The service is always quick and fairly priced. Highly recommend.

Hands down the best shop in Austin! I’ve been coming here for years, and they always deliver accurate diagnoses (complete with photos) and fair, competitive pricing. The work is truly top notch and the turnaround time beats every shop in town. Special thanks to Joe S., who consistently goes above and beyond. He’s beyond patient, professional, and helpful with every issue I bring in. Give this man a massive raise for dealing with me every year! 😁 I wish I could give more than 5 stars. Truly appreciate the entire team!
