Went for a diagnostic. They gave me a code reading. That was all they did. They couldn't help due to my car having over 100,000 miles. So they didn't charge me. To be honest I could have gotten that done at any auto parts store without having to leave my car with them for 24 hours. They parked my car in the parking lot. Back door was ajar and it looked like someone was in my car going through every inch of it. Not sure if it was a worker or street thief. Either way it was an unpleasant surprise. Also their doing some kinda remodel inside so there's no shopping at the moment.

Fantastic staff! Gave me great advice and didn't overcharge me. I felt safe leaving the keys in the drop box early morning for the oil change. At my follow up 100,000 mile tune up, my only criticism was that i made an apt. for 10a and was quoted 3 ish hours. At hour 4 I called and they had only just got my car started and i had to wait 3 ish hour more. Other than that, I will absolutely come back for more service when I need it :)

This place is a mess, unqualified people, understaffed, no management, questionable business practice. The manager “Val” no where to be seen, won’t return calls. The goal sell services you don’t need or want then avoid you when there are issues and problems. Forget about using the national website because Chico doesn’t use it or even bother with it. Place looked like a ghost town. Don’t let the cheap tire prices suck you in. Go elsewhere.

My car have a coolant leak and I've changed the oil many times on Pep Boys around the state and for the first time I heard the employee saying that they don't do the service because ''they don't feel comfortable'' with the coolant leak. The coolant compartment is on the opposite side of the oil compartment.

Used to be able to buy stuff here. Seems like they want to focus on service only now and they don't have shelves with merchandise. At least I got a battery and wipers but I couldn't get battery terminal grease. Maybe only come here if you need auto service and not parts as it was really slow to get parts sold to us.

On June 16th, I placed an order for tires from Priority Tire on eBay and paid for installation at Pep Boys in Chico. The tires were delivered at 1:21 p.m. on the same day. Despite not hearing from Pep Boys, I reached out to them around 3:00 p.m. to inquire about the status of my tires. They assured me they would call back after locating the tires, but failed to do so. The following day, I followed up with Pep Boys again, only to be informed that they had not yet found the tires but would continue searching. Unfortunately, I did not receive any further communication from them despite repeated attempts to contact them. Finally, after reaching out to Pep Boys corporate office, an appointment was scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on June 17th, during which I arrived 20 minutes early. Upon arrival, I was informed that they required information about the origin of the tires before commencing the installation. This caused a delay and resulted in a late start for the installation process. Throughout the installation, additional issues arose, such as the technician's lack of experience with mounting and balancing 35-inch tires, as well as the drilling of holes in my used tires without my consent. The tires were eventually balanced, but an excessive amount of weight was required, leading to an abnormal imbalance. Furthermore, the tire pressures were set at 79 PSI in the front and 65 PSI in the back, which seemed unusually high. Upon further inspection at home, I discovered that Pep Boys had indeed drilled holes in the tires, which was not part of the agreed-upon service. Given the numerous issues and miscommunications that occurred during this process, I am deeply dissatisfied with the overall experience. I seek proper compensation for the inconvenience and subpar service provided by Pep Boys in Chico. It is evident that improved communication and adherence to service requirements are imperative in ensuring customer satisfaction and maintaining a reputable establishment.

If I could give zero stars, I would. I brought my car to Pep Boys because my check engine light was on. They kept my car all day, diagnosed it, and charged me nearly $600 to replace an O2 sensor. Less than one hour after picking it up, the check engine light came back on again. I went to a second shop who found the REAL issue — a fuel system problem and failing injectors — meaning Pep Boys completely misdiagnosed my vehicle and charged me for a repair that did not fix anything. I tried to resolve it directly and was told multiple times that a store manager or area manager would call me back. It has now been over a week and not a single call back, despite calling corporate twice. Pep Boys keeps refusing a refund by claiming “the code is different now,” even though the original problem was never fixed. Because of their incorrect diagnosis, I now have to pay for the actual repairs at another shop AND fight for a refund for the unnecessary work Pep Boys did. If you value honesty, communication, or correct repairs, avoid this location. Pep Boys’ customer service and accountability are completely unacceptable. I’m now filing a formal complaint with the California Bureau of Automotive Repair due to their mishandling of this situation.

Update: Despite multiple attempts to reach out to Pep Boys in Chico, they have still not contacted me to resolve the issues I have encountered. They have lied to their corporate office multiple times, claiming to have reached out and resolved the situation. When I called them, the woman claiming to be the manager now denies being the manager and says she needs to speak to someone else to help me. Thousands of dollars worth of damage have been done, and they continue to put me on the back burner in hopes that I will go away. All I am asking for is a resolution to the problems I have faced.
