I noticed an additional charge of $9.99 for resetting the oil change light. Something that requires a push of the odometer reset button and takes five seconds. Something that is included in the price of every oil change. And the shop didn’t disclosed this outrageous fee. I called and the person answering said it was a legit charge. I am still waiting for the managers phone call. I filed a complaint with Pepboys. Beware of this charge.

I was charged for a rubber valve stem, but my vehicle has t.p.m.s. sensors. The also didn't balance the new tire I purchased.

Excellent service! Returned a battery for my mother-in-law, that was under warranty! The tech tested it and confirmed the problem and gave me a new battery. No hassle or problems. Nice that they stand behind what they sell and honor the warranty.

My service advisor Kaden was overall professional until I spoke to him the next day, informing him about the damage done to my glove compartment. He neither offered an apology nor a solution, and instead said the person I spoke to about it, his assistant manager, should have taken care of the issue. He promised to give me a call back but 30 minutes later I still have to receive that call. Also, he said the $9.99 coupon I got from the website “is an old one” and he therefore didn’t honor it. The survey I was asked to do mentioned a free inspection but I don’t think I got a free inspection with the $113 that I was charged.

Had appt at 12pm. Waited until 1pm hearing nothing, went to ask and they said it was going to be another hour before they can even check the car. What is the point of scheduling an appointment? Also why not communicate that the wait is going to be longer than originally quoted when I was sitting right in the shop. Don’t go here unless you have all day. Poor customer service and communication.

They had to order a battery for me so I could replace the one in my car. That and the service to put it in, took very little time. However, like all car repairs, it is pricey.

Great customer service! Pepboys is my go to place for my repair needs. Prices are very reasonable compared to dealership prices.

Only reason I come here is because it's cheaper than the dealership, that said it's not worth coming here. They never seem to get it right. Oil changes are messy and take more than 2hr and that's with appointment. Got my breaks done here and they have been making noise ever since. On top of everything there is a "lady" who works there with a terrible attitude. Very rude service advisor. Lacks knowledge about cars but has all the attitude you can ask for. God forbid you have questions about your vehicle. Overall the $20 oil change is not worth the hassle of dealing with poor attitudes and constant errors, I'd rather pay the $120 at the dealership.

The Service writer, Liz was outstanding. She has a great professional attitude and is most accommodating. Special requests are handled with care. The technician, Wesly, went out of his way to help me with an issue and handled it with utmost diligence. This center “rocks”! Thank you, Pep Boys Tierra del Rey, Chula Vista.

Took my Hyundai Elantra for AC issues. Compressor was leaking and needed to be replaced. They changed it out the same day and I got my car back before the estimated time I was given. They also have military discount on the total price and not just the labor, or parts cost. I would highly recommend them to anyone!

I used Pep Boys’ service for the first time, and it was a disappointing experience. I had an oil change appointment scheduled for 6 PM, but just three hours before the appointment, they suddenly called and told me that if I didn’t arrive by 4 PM(only one hour’s notice) I wouldn’t be able to pick up my car the same day. An oil change usually takes about 30 minutes(close 7PM), and in the past 20 years I’ve had countless services done at different places, but I’ve never experienced something this terrible. I normally don’t leave reviews, but I felt I had to write this one. It seems like the business’s convenience comes before the customer these days… what a shame.

I dropped off my vehicle on Saturday, 10/4/25 for a diagnostic and paid for the service in full. Since then, I’ve been calling daily to get a simple explanation of the repair comments noted on the report. Unfortunately, no one has been able—or willing—to explain what’s wrong with my car. Each time I call, I’m told that someone will get back to me, but no one ever does. Once payment was taken, it feels like I’ve been completely brushed off. This is not just unprofessional—it’s unacceptable. I spoke with the manager, Mario, expecting some sort of resolution or at least clarity, but he was unable to provide answers or offer any meaningful help. I paid for a diagnostic in order to understand the issues with my car—not to be ignored or given the runaround. As a paying customer, I expected basic communication and transparency, neither of which were delivered. This experience has been incredibly disappointing, and unless corrected, I won’t be returning or recommending this business to anyone.

I went in to get my AC recharged because my car was pushing out warm air and they informed me I had to have a diagnostic done first. After the diagnostic, they told me I needed a new serpentine belt, tensioner, a condenser and the quote was about 1600$. So I declined their services. Keep in mind I had just had the serpentine and tensioner replaced at the mechanics shop because I had major engine repairs done a week prior. The next day I look under the hood and the compressor belt is off of its pulley. I guess they missed that….or maybe they’re being dishonest.

I am extremely dissatisfied with my recent experience at Pep Boys. My son brought my vehicle to the shop on my behalf, and I have concerns that he may have been taken advantage of, rather than receiving the professional and attentive service my vehicle deserves. During my visit five days ago, the service advisor insisted that my son pay for a wheel alignment, despite the vehicle being covered under a lifetime alignment plan. The advisor argued that the vehicle did not qualify for free alignment under those conditions and therefore required payment. I had to personally call and speak with Caden, whom we have always had good experiences with, and he was able to resolve the issue and help facilitate the refund. No problems with him, just the other advisors who assisted during these in person visits. However, this has caused unnecessary inconvenience, as additional time will now be required to process the refund once a manager is available. Furthermore, my son returned the following morning to have the refund processed but was turned away because no one at the store at that time knew how to or was able to process it. As a result, another visit was necessary to address this issue. Additionally, I am deeply concerned about the recent service on my vehicle. The service desk representative was inattentive and did not inquire about the recommended repairs, nor did she follow up to confirm whether any repairs should be addressed. My vehicle’s alignment, which was marked as needing service, was neither fixed nor was there any effort to confirm whether I wanted it completed. Most troubling, my vehicle was sent off with only four of the five lug nuts installed due to a stripped stud. I believe this was caused by crossthreading by a technician. It is highly unsafe to release a vehicle in such a condition, risking my safety and that of others. This is the second visit within the past five days involving mishandled or unaddressed alignment services for two of my vehicles. The overall level of service, attention to detail, and safety considerations has been unacceptable, and I am very disappointed. I expect better professionalism, transparency, and regard for safety from this team.

They sold the alignment warranty, so they increased the price. But when you made an appointment ti come in for the reason, said expired only for 30 days. You need to make a call appointment immediately when you feel something, but when walked in the store, was expired. The first time they didn't provide the alignment results pictures, just a receipt. Just took around 5 minutes done. Suspected did they really do the alignment???

My FJ Cruiser had the brake light on so I brought it in on a Saturday. They were very busy and I was told it was better to make an appointment. So requested Tuesday at 3:30 pm, I was told that wasn’t enough time for diagnostic and repair, that it should be in before 2 pm. So then Wednesday 1:30 was scheduled. I show up at 1:20 pm. After complaining twice they get the vehicle up in the bay at 2:30 pm. ~3:30 I see them drive it out to a parking spot and the lady at the desk says it’s done, that it’s probably an ABS issue but the tech that can test that system is finishing up for the day and can’t get it done so I’d have to come back another day. After I rehash the above with her she goes to the back and changes the story; now the tech has to go to lunch, it’s now 3:45 and says he can see it in an hour. On top of this, I was in their waiting area the entire time, I interacted with the same chick every time (at least five times) and every time it was as if she was seeing me for the first time. She had no clue if I was picking up or dropping off and didn’t know which was my car. The entire time I was there she must have only seen five other customers, not hard to keep track. Didn’t apologize, didn’t care about her job much less about the quality of her service. Brake light still on after almost 3 hours wasted. Never going back. Don’t recommend. I had a great experience at Pep Boys in Chula Vista thanks to Alex and the manager Beto. They took care of me even though they were about to close, which really showed their professionalism and willingness to help. On top of that, they gave me a really good price without me even having to ask. That level of honesty and customer service is hard to find nowadays. I truly appreciate the extra effort and the way they treated me. Highly recommend this location — ask for Alex and Beto!
