Ha, I just watched Steve Hanlon speed away yelling about 1star reviews after having a fit because the mechanic stepped away to grab some paperwork. What a goof. Tran’s is a one man single bay operation, I’m not sure if he even has a sign up, but make no mistake, the guy is super talented. The epitome of a good honest mechanic.

Dan was great; I brought my car in for a rattling sound and a gut-wrenching thunk over pot holes and rough road. He showed me the extent of the damage, let me know it was a mild sway bar issue, and assured me that my car wasn't about to fall apart or break. I didn't feel pressured or pushed to get repairs, and was assured that although the sound was bad, it was something that could be fixed when I was ready and able. I thanked him for his assessment and left thinking I'd found an honest mechanic. I'll definitely be bringing my car back.

Dan Tran is a wonderful mechanic, and I’ll back this up every time. He is honest, he never tries to upsell me on car work. If anything, he gives me a prediction for how long any hotspots of my car should last for, which helps me adjust my budget in preparation for the next visit. He gives me quotes and estimate times for waiting before ordering parts and starting the labor. He does a great job efficiently and quickly. He’s thorough in diagnosing the car issue and if he doesn’t have the capacity to work on the job, he is upfront about that and has referred me to places where I can get the job done. Having moved to Portland for school and staying after, I wasn’t linked to any mechanics, like I had been in my hometown. In 2019, I was referred to Dan by a classmate who grew up here. Since 2019, Dan has helped me with many car issues, here’s some to name a few- 1. Radiator leak- He helped me fix my hoses and recommended I change the radiator, which we didn’t get to do in shop, but he gave me a ballpark quote to expect and recommendations. 2. Strut replacement- I was in desperate need to change my strut, as my drive became unbalanced. I got my car towed to his shop and he got it fixed within the day. 3. Oil changes- During my routine oil changes, he does his due diligence to check anything I’ve had questions about (brake check, fuse check, lightbulb changes), which he did free of charge kindly. 4. Car assessment- One day, I started my car, which started up way differently from what I’m used to and felt uncomfortable to drive it. I was about to have it towed, but since my car was parked near his shop, on that same day from hearing the sound on the phone, he actually came by to assess it himself. We found my catalytic converters were stolen, which is a job he referred me to do elsewhere, which I did through my insurance. Got it fixed timely. Tip: Call ahead of time, if you can! While he is very accommodating and tries his best to add in any day-of cars, his schedule gets booked up—But! If you can wait, it’s worth the wait to be able to have him work on your car. Dan is a kind and knowledgeable. He is also very experienced in the industry, having worked on ambulances for many years. I’m a loyal customer, which he’s had many of them, based on the folks who I’ve met in passing while having our cars worked on by Dan over the years. Thank you so much, Dan!

Brought our car in while on a road trip with some urgent issues & a time crunch and we are so happy we chose Tran’s!! From his willingness to help us right away, his thoroughness to figuring out the issue, and then making sure we were safe to drive home that day - we cannot express how thankful we are. I found Trans auto care because it was close to my house and he would always be very helpful over the phone even if i wasn't taking my car to get fixed. I had him change the front brakes on my car and within two hours it was ready to go and was way cheaper than i was quoted anywhere else. I even asked him some questions regarding my a/c and he instantly tried to diagnose what was wrong free of change. One of the few honest and hardworking mechanics left.

Showing much gratitude to Tran’s great and honest services. Please show his business some love. Came in month ago to do a simple oil change for my Honda Civic. Tran not only provided a speedy service, but even went the extra mile to pump my tires since he saw the light come on AND even topped off my wiper fluid without me asking or even charging me. These simple acts were more than enough for me to come in again. This time for a vehicle inspection before my interstate move. I tried calling in before to explain my need, but since he had left the shop early that evening, he instead offered me quick solutions at tires shops around the area to fix my TPMS problem and then scheduled a date to inspect my car. During the inspection, he did a thorough job and pointed out the cracks and wear on my engine belt and addressed the replacement immediately (reassuring me that this is normal for a 210k+ mileage car). Along the process he helped explained what to look out for during my 900+ mile trip. I bought a quart of oil from him and he gave me extra rags with it to ensure a safe trip. This man knows his stuff and is genuine to his craft. Never once did I feel cheated in his service and he charged me reasonably. Sadly leaving PDX but he has made my trip ahead feel assuring and I hope you all can show some love to his business. FYI, I recommend calling ahead before you go in; he’s a one man team so it can help him schedule you in better.

Like other reviewers, I feel like I've finally found my go-to mechanic. Dan is knowledgeable, efficient, pragmatic, easy to communicate with, and offers great service at a very reasonable price. He even stopped by my house to take a look at my car in person before I had it towed to him (I live in the neighborhood).
