I would not take my car any other place in the Valley. I expect honesty from them, and they have never let me down. I credit them with keeping my 15+ year-old car alive. Jim and his crew are the best!

Honest, knowledgeable and very reasonably priced. Have been going to his shop for over ten years and Jim Medina has seen us through some really tricky car repair situations. When Jim is in the shop its a well-run business, but when he works at his Palm Avenue shop and his other guys are in charge there are occasional communication problems (for example, not getting a call when things are taking longer until you call them first).

I went to the shop located on Van ness and was very disappointed. I read all the great reviews this place had so I figured I couldn't go wrong by taking my car here. My car had an oil leak so I brought it in early in the morning to Jesse. I was told I would be getting a call in an hour to give me an estimate. I did not get a phone call until almost 5pm. The estimate I was given was a decent one. I'm sure I would have found many places to fix my car for less but I really liked the great reviews this place has. The following day, I waited for a call that I never got. I called them around 2pm and was told my car was ready. So I go to pick it up and after paying, one of the guys starts my car and the oil started gushing out all over my car's engine. I again had to leave it there for a few hours for them to clean it up. So when I finally pick up my car, everything seemed to be fine. As soon as I got home, I parked my car and was not moved until the following morning. That morning I noticed it was still leaking oil and my car was now making a squealing noise whenever it was running. I brought it bought back and told them about the noise as well as the oil leak. They kept my car for two full days and never bothered to call me to let me know what was going on. I finally called at the end of day two and I was told my car is ready for pick up. Apparently the problem was that the filter was a little loose. I'm not a mechanic but I don't see how it took them two full days to get that taken care of. Guess they didn't really care about making me, a customer, happy since they already had my money. It's been a few days now and it seems like the oil leak was fixed but the squealing noise is still there. I was very disappointed by their lack of communication and the fact that now my car has this embarrassing noise that won't go away. Another thing was that when I picked it up the second time, Jesse told me one of my axles was broken. Since i was already dissatisfied with their service, I told him I would take it elsewhere. I've taken it to two different places to get that checked out and both places told me there's nothing wrong with the axles. I guess they were hoping to take more of my money. I will never be going back to this place and will make sure family and friend don't either.

Worst place ever! First off you can tell someone who works there are the same ones who wrote the so called good reviews. Went in for brake service and a smog not only did Jim over price but he also promised small minor things he seen during inspection would also be included in final price. Within days price rose by almost 400(over priced from start). But because I was recommend I choose to pay $936. Day I received car I was a happy camper. Until I realized I wasn't giving a smog Paper. Not thinking I take to smog shop only to fail. Upon returning home pressure on brakes all but vanished. The return visit was even more troubling as I was told they did nothing for smog. And they would charge again to see why brakes weren't working. (Double dipping). Jim never touched my car all the little things he called about never were done so Cutting losses with these horrible "mechanics" I then proceeded to take another shop a few blocks down and not only did it take less time but they did it right the first time for almost half the money. Save time and money and the headache go else.

GREAT PEOPLE! I take all my cars to Jim. I hand him the keys and trust him fully. 14 years he has been doing great work. His repairs are top notch and his customer service is the best. His diagnoses skills are great. His prices are very reasonable. His repairs are quick. His staff are the best.

This place is great! I had a hard time finding a place that was even willing to do the work required on my car because of the difficulty in changing out the part. But once someone referred me to Van Ness Auto Repair, they were more than willing to do the work and had the experience with that specific issue. On top of that, I got the best quote I could find. And even better, the customer service was exceptional. Everyone I spoke to was very kind and professional, especially Carlos. Highly recommend this place!

Owner Jim Medina truly cares about his customers. Mechanics are experienced skilled and ethical. Business is generally honest and reasonably priced. Not one problem after 10 years of service. Jim and other mechanics have often gone out of their way to help when I was in a bind. Recently, broke down a few miles away night before Thanksgiving. I was sick and stranded in rain. Jim drove out, got car started long enough to avoid tow, then he stayed past closing to get car repaired same night. Truly great service and people here.

I just can’t say enough about this repair shop. Jim is a genuinely awesome guy, who is fun to talk to you and who will spend lots of time chatting about cars and shooting the sh/t with anybody. They also do really good work in this garage, and I’m so committed to them at this point that they had better stay open for the rest of my life, because I really don’t wanna go to another auto repair place. All of this, and on top of the fact that their shop is on site to a retro gas station pump that ups their cool level by 200%. Keep up the great work gentleman.

Incredibly honest and reliable mechanics. I took my car in to have breaks replaced and have them give the vehicle a thorough once over to check for preventative maintenance and other issues. They found a few related to suspension and muffler, gave me a reasonable quote, and then came in under what they quoted me. Solid work and my car drives like new. Would recommend to anyone needing work large or small.

The worst service ever. Scammers work there. If google had -5 stars. I would give it. I had issue with ABS system. They charged me 1700$ saying that they will buy new part. After several days, light of ABS came again. I came they couldn’t fixed it, and told me that issue is in program of the car and asked 500$ extra. After I left to another state. Till today I have ABS lights on. Recently I showed it to another auto service. They told me that ABS part wasn’t new and the price was high. It could be fixed for 750$. I showed to another service they told me the same thing.

EXCELLENT REPAIR SHOP!!! I have 4 cars and have had the following repairs done: gas pump install, head gasket replacement, suspension parts replaced on a 4x4 and a Cadillac, dash control pannels replaced, transmissions flushed, driveline work on a 4x4, cooling system repairs including radiators, thermostats, and hoses, brakes jobs, harmonic balancer replacement, starter install, interior pannel replacement, shocks, window motor, diffirential fluid changes, wheel bearings, and more I've thrown some confounding problems at this shop such as electrical issues where other mechanics will give up, Jim at Van Ness gets to the bottom of what's going on. He takes the time to explain whats wrong and will show you the issue. His prices are very fair and I've never had to take a repair back to be redone. I can't say enough good about this shop. Had another shop pay him to fix their mistakes..... that's how i found Van Ness Auto. The mechanics really know what they're talking about and eventhough they are always busy, they'll make the effort to help every customer. I had 4 vehicles that all had problems..... now I have 4 cars I wouldn't hesitate to drive to New York and back. Also see a lot of people who take their classic cars to this shop. Finding techs who know how to work on classics is getting harder and harder now days. I can't say enough good things about this place. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
