This review is long overdue. I’ve been coming to Yost Automotive since it was just Michael working out of his two-car garage in French Place... so maybe 30 years? I had a 1984 Ford Econoline with baby blue shag carpet ( lovingly referred to as the Molesto Van) that Michael worked on for several years until he convinced me to sell it for something that would hold a car seat ( I was nine months pregnant). Michael has taught and mentored countless mechanics over the years - not just about the fundamentals- but about living with integrity and always being honest and never buying an old Peugeot from a shady dealership on the other side of town ( maybe that lesson was only for me). Mark is the new Michael, and he runs Yost Automotive just like Michael did. I just picked up my truck, expecting the repair to cost what was quoted - about $300. Instead, the total was $82 , because Mark was able to fix it a different way - he explained to me what it was that he did but I wasn’t listening. I trust them. 11 cars in 30 years and I’ve never been anywhere else.

Mark and Jordan were so kind and helpful and answered all of my many many questions snd calls. They made me feel so confident dropping of my Prius with them. They did not have an appointment till the following week but still offered to take it in prior to appointment and try and work on it and were able to complete the job before the appointment. Upon drop off to pick up my car, my Lyft driver was praising their shop and use to use them as their hybrid mechanic when they gad a hybrid. I cannot speak highly enough of Yost Automotive! Unfortunate circumstances led me to their shop however I am so grateful to now have and know a reliable hybrid mechanic.

This review is for work Yost did on 8/31/23. Replacement of motor mount second time. The work did fix the problem and it's only now my new mechanic showed me why. They were not able to get the motor mount of so the changed to good one again and left my bad one in because there could not do anything but strip the bolts on my exhaust manifold now I;m stuck with doing it yet again plus taking it to have the manifold studs fixed.

Yes, go this is the place for your hybrid repairs. Do not compare this place to the dealership, it's better than that. I have been going to the dealership for 10+ years but after leaving the dealership with strange noises coming from my vehicle on multiple occassions and poor quality maintenance/repairs that required additional visits, I had to look for a better alternative. Found it! The pricing is fair and upfront. They have soo many Austin Chronicle awards they don't fit on the wall. This is the best place to help you take care of your hybrid.

Update: it's been a few years since my last review, no changes, no notes. Yost is still the best, helping me keep my now 20 year old Toyota in great shape. I'm glad I live so close to Yost II, I can walk home from dropping off my car (it's a long walk, but doable)! They have kept my 05 Prius running great the past couple years. Front desk is always really welcoming, and Mark never pushes any services on me. He always explains what's going on with any issues or needed maintenance and what is and isn't urgent. For my last visit, I called up Yost about a battery issue and they were pretty booked up. So I went ahead a made an appointment a few weeks out and wound up taking my car to the dealership, who could see me sooner. That... did not go well. Thankfully, I didn't cancel with Yost, and was able to take my car in and they fixed it right up. Worth the wait, if you can swing it!

Fantastic shop. I'm new to Austin and came to them with a weird issue with my car. They were communicative throughout the process and their pricing was very fair for the work they're doing-- this is not one of those shops that's going to try to pressure you into unnecessary work, though they will let you know so you're informed. So glad I found a reliable place to take my car!

These guys are the best! After purchasing a 2006 4runner from Ohio with a cursory evaluation, I took it into Yost for a full look-over. They found many issues and repaired them in a very short period of time at a reasonable cost. What's more, they were prescriptive in what to be aware of next. I left their shop knowing I now have a safe and trustworthy vehicle - all because of the team at Yost.

I can't believe I waited this long to go to Yost Automotive! Mark has now worked on four of my family's vehicles and done a superb job on each and every one of them! Jordan is the most pleasant front office person I've ever met. I highly recommend Mark at Yost Automotive for anyone regardless of make, model or year of vehicle. He's found and repaired issues with my 1999 Dodge 2500 Diesel 4x4, 2009 GMC Hybrid Sierra 1500, and my Daughter's 2008 Infinity G35. Don't waste your time at any other shop, call Jordan and schedule an appointment with Yost Automotive. If you're lucky you'll get Mark to work on your vehicle. 👍😁

RIPPED OFF. I am incredibly disappointed and upset about my experience with Yost Automotive in Austin, TX. I never imagined I would find myself in a position where I would highly discourage others from using their services, but that's exactly where I am now. If you are thinking of going to them, I strongly urge you to visit in person and mark any parts they claim they will replace with spray paint. You should also insist on getting teardown photos, because you will need proof. This is not the Yost Automotive I would have recommended five years ago. I'm absolutely appalled at how they've changed. If they reach out to you suggesting that more parts need to be replaced, do yourself a favor and stop all work immediately--take your vehicle anywhere else. I specifically asked them to save two crucial parts for me to inspect. They assured me they would be saved, yet on the day I went to pay, I was shocked to learn that those parts had already been sent back as "cores" to the parts supplier. This completely denied me the chance to examine them! To add insult to injury, when I tried to voice my concerns to the owner, I was told he was "out of the country." It feels like they're hiding behind excuses and not taking responsibility for their actions. This whole experience has not only been frustrating but also incredibly disheartening. I truly regret choosing Yost Automotive and wish I had listened to my instincts from the beginning. Consider yourself warned!!!!!!

I had an urgent issue with my car—the bottom engine protector plastic was making a lot of noise. I needed to get to work quickly, and Mark at Yost Automotive II truly went above and beyond to help. Despite the usual appointment system, he understood my situation and immediately fixed the issue. Mark is kind-hearted, professional, and genuinely cares about his customers. I’ve been a customer of Yost for 2-3 years, for good reason! Jordan, Mark and the rest of the Yost team consistently makes it happen and keeps my car in good shape. I have an older car that I’m “riding until the wheels fall off”. They understand this and have done a lot to make sure I can! The investments I’ve made at Yost have saved me thousands. So just found out today after finally getting Hometown Hybrids to replace my husband's battery because their prices are great and so is their warranty we find out that these guys used a green bean battery two years ago. Funny thing is they charge the difference to have Green Bean come and install it but green bean has an unlimited mileage warranty. So why is it after my husband paid over 2200 dollars to replace his prius battery and it failed again within 2 years they said he was outside of the mileage warranty yet Green Bean offers unlimited mileage warranty? I know Green Bean did the work and we found out today there were tons of missing bolts and really poorly done work. So basically Yost hires out the work and keeps the money without honoring the original company's warranty. I do not recommend ever going here for anything battery related. They will scam you out of your money and not stay true to their word. They don't even do a good job because they can't even ensure the bolts are put back together.

Mark and crew are the best, most honest, and downright friendliest team I’ve ever taken my vehicles to. They’ve told me when I can wait on a repair and when it’s ultimately time to take care of it. I always trust what I’m told and know that I’m treated like a person and not a wallet. I’ve moved to the other side of Austin but still have my cars taken to Yost whenever I need something done. My whole family goes to Yost.

The absolute best. I have been taking my vehicles to Yost for many years, any time I have a problem I call and talk to Mark and he helps me get everything sorted out. He always works hard to get you the best option with a reasonable time and cost, and he’s even helped me figure out keeping my dad’s old battered truck going against all logic (it’s sentimental!). I live pretty far from them now and still make the trip. It’s absolutely worth it, I won’t go anywhere else.
