My car had water damage due to flooding. The original shop I had the car looked at could not complete the work. I was running out of time on my covered rental and had trouble finding shops on short notice. Lee and the team at AAMCO were both friendly and quick with their assistance. I have never experience a car repair shop that leads with empathy! They took care of the communication between the insurance and them and I was able to get my car back quickly. After weeks of stressing, Lee and his team made the situation better!

Only called to find out an estimated cost of service I wanted for my car. I couldn't get a straight answer for a price, only "We will know once the technician gives his recommendation" I asked again, "how much for a flush of my C7 Base Stingray A8 transmission, with the newest oil and new filters?" The answer was," once the technician give his recommendation. So I have to end my review with, you lost my business. I don't care what your tech thinks, I know what I wanted, a trans flush, newest updated oil, and filters. What ever happened to customer satisfaction and sometime the customer is right.

They worked on my car pretty fast but the reason for only three stars is because they charged my for 6.5 hours of labor for a job that should take no longer than 2.5 hours.

Needed most of the fluids for my truck changed (differentials, transmission, coolant, etc.) The team at this shop were able to that for me. Had it done 3 weeks ago and haven't seen any issues with the work done. The price was fair too.

If there was ever a smooth experience getting a transmission, this was it. Everything was clear and prompt. We never expected getting our car back so quickly and we understood the entire process too. Thank you to Chris and his entire staff!! Well Done!!

4 out of 5 would be more deserving but at the time of pick up I said I’d give 5 stars so I’m sticking to my word! Let me start off with saying I would definitely have worked performed by this location again. Now that’s out the way. AAMCO worked with my warranty company toco to install a transmission, there was a added delay due to warranty company needing a estimate and I guess it not being communicated to shop, I didn’t allow that to affect my review. Work was completed in time frame they gave, my only issue was my steering wheel was not horizontal like it was prior to work completion but the craziest part about it was that the car drove so straight with the wheel being at angle I could take my hands off the wheel going 80 and she not drift; I needed up bringing car back in and they fixed the issue for free the steering wheel still isn’t perfectly centered as it once was But it’s not noticeable so I can live with it she does pull a little to the left as well but I’m not complaining they completed work fixed issues! Like I said at time I got my car back I was happy this honestly about the best service your going to get post Covid so a 5 star review is accurate with work completed no negative interactions and no hidden fees! Please accept my honest and unbias review and excuse any grammar or spelling errors I wrote this on a break at work.

*****BUYER BEWARE***** If I could give zero stars, I would. I brought my car to this AAMCO while in the middle of a military move—my husband, toddler, and I had just driven from SC to VA and were heading back to finish the move. We trusted this location based on good reviews. Big mistake. They quoted me $4K. Once I left the state, that changed to $6,500. When I asked reasonable questions, they got rude fast. I decided not to move forward and told them (very politely) that a friend would be towing the vehicle to house it until we returned. Suddenly, they said they had taken the transmission apart and it would cost me $800 to reassemble it before release. They then told me the only way to have it released was to go to the shop in person and sign a legal document verifying every part was present. When I asked to see it, I was told I couldn’t. (What??) I explained that I wasn’t even in the state (which they knew) and would need to review with my attorney sister. They said they’d follow up. No one ever did. Eventually, I gave up and paid the $800 just to get my car back. When my mechanic friend opened the transmission, he found disgusting, untouched fluid still inside—proof that the transmission had never been taken apart. They hooked it up to a computer, saw the error, and lied. I was misled, overcharged, and treated terribly—during a military move, no less. Do better, AAMCO. I'd also like to note that the person I worked with was Lee.

I saw a coupon online for $100 off a rebuilt transmission. I called Amco and asked them to give me a quote for my car to rebuild a transmission because I had transmission issues. They told me just to bring the car in for a free look over so they can figure out exactly what the issue was once I brought the car and they did their checks and told me what they found out basically letting me know that they did not know what the issue was and that they would need to hold the car And I would have to pay $200 in order to get them to actually look under the hood and do a little more research on what the issue could be. Once I get that check, they basically told me that they knew that it was transmission problems,(which I already knew and asked them to do from the get-go I called and they could have given me a quote but instead they chose to ask me to bring the car leave my car for a day and charge me $200 for something I already knew) but they didn’t know what the exact issue was and that I would have to pay $900 in order for them to take the transmission out look at it thoroughly and put it back in not including any fixing or actually saying that they would know what the issue really is. Then they told me they could give me a quote ($4100 + plus hard parts prices )to actually fix the issue aside from the $900 to actually take the Transmission out and do a thorough check and put it back in. If you are diagnosing a problem don’t waste a bunch of money here go else where and get a real defined quote and answer .

Won't return. Mechanics were super chill, front desk guy was strange. When I asked about making an appointment after they diagnosed my issue, he became defensive and patronizing, saying they don't set up appointments, "look at all these jobs I already have", etc. I was worried maybe I accidentally came across as hostile, so I tried to subtly clarify I wasn’t upset, but he didn't change. The customer behind me was also confused by his attitude change. Happened again when I tried to get my car fixed. I don't mind them not being able to see me or me not being able to set up an appointment like normal. I DO mind the frustratedness, patronizing, and defensiveness when I'm being cool. As someone who (unfortunately) frequently visits many mechanics for many years, this is probably the most unnecessarily defensive experience I've had. Ended up scheduling another appointment (LOL) elsewhere because of it, and won't be returning. Sorry to the mechanics there, they seemed great, and thank you for taking a look at my car for me.

They know so much about automobiles, not just transmissions each time I have gone to Amco in Norfolk, Virginia. The service has been friendly and very knowledgeable about what is wrong with my car. I couldn’t ask for better service. They are fantastic.

When I entered the reception area Lee greeted me and he remembered who I was. I informed him the reason I brought my truck in. He remembered the previous telephone conversation we discussed the truck repairs and price. We engaged in holiday conversation while he completed the work order. Lee informed me the repairs would be completed that day. I was very delighted to hear. I return to Lee and Chris for truck repairs, because they are knowledgeable and skilled businessmen.

I recently posted a review to all Aamco to receive help with an issue I was having with another store. Chris from the Norfolk AAMCO, contacted me regarding this. He was very helpful in assisting to initiate contact with the other store manager. I appreciate his support throughout my ordeal and look forward to receiving my vehicle back repaired.

Edited to add: After speaking with the owner, Mr. Florian, the issue has been resolved. I understand there were circumstances that delayed things, and I truly appreciate the call, the time he took to listen, and the sincere apology. If I ever run into another issue, I would be willing to give them another chance. Thank you. Edited to add: I have reached out to Mr. Florian twice without a response. Given the original commitment to “make it right,” the lack of follow-through has been just as disappointing as the original service and the ongoing lack of communication is concerning. Extremely disappointed and frustrated with this shop. I brought my car in knowing the TCM was a common issue with this model and likely the problem. After paying $200 for a diagnostic, Lee tried to tell me I needed a $5,000 clutch assembly replacement. When I asked about the TCM, he brushed it off and said they would replace the clutch first and then run another scan to see if the TCM was the issue — basically asking me to spend $5,000 before even addressing the known problem. I explained the clutch had recently been inspected and was in great shape. Instead of listening, he got an attitude and said, “That’s what they found.” I took my car to the dealership and, surprise — the TCM was the ONLY issue. No clutch replacement needed. This shop was clearly trying to sell thousands of dollars in unnecessary repairs. If I hadn’t pushed back, I would have wasted over $5,000 on work that had nothing to do with the problem. Completely untrustworthy. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

We took our 82 Blazer to Chris and his people did a great job with the transmission and transfer case. They also did my 99 Blazer a couple of years ago and did an excellent job on that. Chris is who I trust and recommend when all of our customers from have transmission problems. My dad has been dealing with Chris for a long time. Dad opened this shop 50 years ago Dec 1975. I do appreciate Lee and Ann at the front desk, I can relate to what they experience. We all try to do the best we can. Thank you Chris and gang.
