I have tried many different service centers in Charlottesville over the past 30 years and this is the best. I have had extensive work done here over the past five years with four different cars. This is not a fancy place but their work is consistently high quality, done on time, and at a fair price. You are not pressured into repairs you don't need and you can trust what they tell you. I just want to add that the owner Garry retired, but many of the mechanics remain and still provide high quality work. My experience with the new management has been great. This continues to be the place I where I take my cars.

Auto Doctors is top on my list! Their service is the most cost efficient and top notch! They are very honest and if anything costs higher they tell you otherwise for the most part their prices are the cheapest. Aside from that I love their customer service. Everytime I take my vehicle their they follow up with me and keep me posted. Go Auto Doctors!

The work here was great! Larry was very helpful. I had only gone in for a VA State Inspection but he found a leak in the transmission due to gasket issues and had also noticed my rotors needed to be replaced, he was able to fix the issues in a timely manner. I feel they are good and honest working people.

They can fix your ISUZU TRUCK! The family business I work for sells furniture and our largest and most important piece of equipment is our Isuzu NPR box truck; it's our lift gate truck. I first truly appreciated that machine delivering a four-hundred pound mahogany armoire. So when it started having trouble a couple of months ago (check engine light, exhaust warnings, reduced performance) we took it where we always took it- probably the same place you take your large truck as it is well advertised, I'll call them the Can't Repair Autos Properly Shop, or CRAPS for short. So craps got the warnings turned off and gave us a diagnosis of what fix, which was around 5k. When we got the truck back there was a terrible squeal that sounded like a belt. A young craps employee told me it would "settle down" in time. It did not, and the truck broke down on its first run, oddly right in front of craps, with fluids spraying out from under the engine. Another craps employee told me a bolt had come loose... and charged me ten bucks to "replace it." Also the warnings were all back and they said they didn't have the ability to reset them. What was the point of even working on it if you are unable to do that? So I got a tip that Auto-Doctor had the necessary magic to talk to an Isuzu. They fixed it (well under 2k) diagnosed the real problem, discovered that the noise was NOT a belt that would settle down, but my compressor was going out, and topped off my DEP fluid (which was low- craps didn't even bother to fill it). My POC at Auto-Doctor was Larry and he is a great communicator although I accidently saved his number under the name Debbie so I affectionately call him Debbie in my head, though not to his face. If you've been in Cville for any time at all you'll know the place, right off Rio behind the three gas stations across from the Greenbrier neighborhood. I always wondered what the place was, like a level for a videogame I hadn't gotten access to yet. Turns out all I needed to do in order to go there was get screwed over by a greenhorn mechanic in a fancy garage. No shiny new cars fronting this place. It's a working shop in the middle of a junkyard, not a daycare garage with a dealership out front, so for the hard-work challenged you may feel anxious driving down the dirt road (called Gasoline Alley!!) that takes you passed the car corpses. Nobody is likely to greet you at the door because they are busy doing a great job for a reasonable fee so tuck your feelings in your pocket with the money you save. If you ask me it's what an auto-shop should be, surrounded by dead cars. I mean really- what can a mechanic learn from a new car lot? That's why med schools teach gross anatomy on corpses. And these guys are truly auto doctors.

I have tried many different places in Charlottesville in the past 10 years, but Auto Doctor is best. I took my Honda Odyssey for inspection and Yasha was able to find that my breaks and alternator were bad, he fixed it same day and my car was ready for pick up at 4pm. We always satisfied with the service, they will answer all your questions and fix all the issues in a timely manner. Would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Auto Doctor is best mechanic shop I ever went to. Superb experience from start to finish, trustworthy and reliable, friendly staff, quick turnaround and best prices around. If I could I would give them 10 stars. Will definitely be back

If you’re like me and only know cars in terms of ‘drive’ and ‘park,’ but need reliable, honest advice and fair pricing—stop thinking, just go here. Hands down, this is one of the hardest-working and, let me say it again, honest businesses around. They don’t just know cars, they know people. They are the neighborhood shop that will help even when they’re not officially open. I repaired my car, my husbands cars, my coworkers go there, and when I was desperately trying to get my out of town friend’s car repaired while she was at UVA Hospital on the same day her father passed away, this shop stepped in on their closed day—no hesitation, no questions asked. And it’s not just me. Over the years, I’ve heard countless stories of them getting stranded people off the road, helping locals, and even strangers, without a second thought. I wish every industry had more people and places like this. This shop isn’t just about fixing cars—it’s about bringing back home, bringing back community.

If I could leave zero stars, I would. They have had my daughter’s vehicle for 10 months. They never call to give us an update. Every time I call, I’m told the mechanic (who is also the owner) isn’t there. I just spoke to him for the first time and he had no apologies and nothing but excuses. They do not operate as an upstanding business and I would advise you take your vehicle any other place but this one. I would take any recent positive reviews with a grain of salt. UPDATE: We gave them a week and a half notice to have our car ready for us to have towed out of there, and we arrived this morning to find our car was destroyed and literally in pieces. They had told us that the car was running for 20 seconds but wouldn’t stay running the previous time we had called to check in on what was going on and if it was fixed. They had told us SEVERAL times before that that the car would be ready “by the end of the week”. There is NO way this car was able to be started, let alone run for any amount of time. We still owe money on this car and it is now a total piece of garbage. I don’t know what kind of operation they are running over there, but they are NOT honest OR trustworthy, and I would again advise you to find any other shop to work on your vehicle. I would hate to see anyone else go through what we have with them.

My son, a poor college student, brought his car in for inspection and was told it required $3200 worth of work to pass. We accepted the rejection sticker and he took the car to a place close to where he goes to school, and they reinspected it and said the car was fine, and even when he probed, asking was there anything to keep an eye on they said no. I don’t believe the place that re-inspected his car had any reason to lie and say the car needed no repairs. I have noticed that you respond to other bad reviews by noting that there is no customer by that person’s name in your system. Well, I know I am not in your system, but my son is and this is a true story.

I was apprehensive to take my cars to a new shop for repairs because of the fact that some shops are not honest. This was not the case with auto doctor. They have always been honest with me truely. Additionally, unlike the competition, they can fix many different makes and models of cars which is uncommon with mechanic shops. Lastly, they are fair with pricing and that is not always the case with the competition. In summary, the folks at auto doctor are honest, knowledgeable , and fair in their pricing. Thanks.

Auto Doctor and staff are very knowledgeable and professional with dealer level capability for European cars. My experience has always been positive for accurate diagnostics and pricing that is reasonable for the skill and knowledge required to fix these vehicles. I highly recommend them!

I had an excellent experience at [Mechanic Shop Name]. The team was professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about providing top-notch service. They quickly diagnosed the issue with my car, explained everything clearly, and gave me a fair and transparent quote. The repairs were completed on time, and my car has been running perfectly ever since.

No one ever really wants to have to take their car to the shop. But if you do, you should take it here! We have had valve cover gasket, throttle body gasket, fan module, fuses and more and they have always gotten the job done within a day as long as they have parts on hand. They have very fair and reasonable pricing for the work and I couldn’t recommend them enough! Bonus points, you can drop you key in an overnight box to ensure you car is first priority the following day. We’ll be using these guys again.

I was in town from out of state to buy a used Lexus and needed a quick pre-purchase inspection. Auto Doctor fit me in on short notice and after only about an hour wait, they did a thorough check that gave me peace of mind. The owner explained the results clearly and even pointed out items I asked the dealer to fix. Friendly, knowledgeable, and well worth the money. I would definitely trust them to fix my cars if I lived in the area.

The owner at Auto Doctor allowed me to bring my SUV in on short notice to have a leaking windshield addressed. Derek the technician was very patient and professional. I will gladly tell others about my experience and give good recommendation.

I’ve been taking all of my vehicles to auto doctor for over 10 years now. They do great work reasonable and willing to work with you.. It’s been times where I went to other shops and they cannot find the problem, but whenever I take it to auto doctor, they find the problem And a solution. They always give me their best advice on whether or not I should get the car fixed. I highly recommend them for any car problems you are having.

If it’s not the first of the month, you have 11 People in front of me they spend about 30 minutes on your car charging for an hour. I went there with my warranty. They said they did every diagnostic they can, but I did not receive a print out of the diagnostic like I asked for them to do all I was given was a receipt. I do not suggest you take it to them. I really feel cheated out of $100 deductible. I am a single parent of a little girl, I don’t play about money or safety. For their sake I pray that this problem goes away, but I will be getting a second opinion probably in Louisa or Troy, Virginia. Larry is obviously overwhelmed I even asked if they were hiring for an assistance and he said no. No one was there to come outside and look at my car issues not a very personal experience …and because of their high car volume you don’t know what got done and what didn’t. I’m not furious, I’m just frustrated that I spent $100 and they say they found no issues… NOT that I’m not grateful for there not to be an issue,,,,, I know what I’m hearing from my car is not normal when you know you know. Really not satisfied I had high hopes because I know Sasha and Yasha from when i was younger…
