On June 16th, 2025, I took my car to Bruno’s in Raeford for diagnostic and possible repair. Upon arrival, I spoke with James and explained the issues the car was experiencing: • A rattling noise coming from somewhere between the engine and the dashboard • The check engine light was on • The car decelerated unusually quickly at around 40 MPH We agreed on a diagnostic fee of $109.97. On June 19th, I received a repair quote via email for the following services: • Oxygen sensors (upstream/downstream) – $671.48 (parts & labor) • Spark plugs replacement – $270.20 (parts & labor) • Valve cover gasket replacement – $279.79 (parts & labor) I picked up the car the following day, paid for the diagnostics and repairs, and drove home. The check engine light was initially off. However, the next day the check engine light returned. I turned off the radio and noticed the rattling noise persisted, and the car still decelerated quickly around 40 MPH. On June 23rd, 2025, I consulted with a colleague at work who is a Kia-certified mechanic. I explained the situation, and he recommended I purchase an OBD2 scanner and send him the diagnostic codes. After reviewing the codes, he advised me that the car still needed an upstream oxygen sensor and a new gas cap—both of which I found surprising, given the recent repairs. On July 1st, I had my colleague replace the upstream oxygen sensor and the gas cap. He later explained that the sensor previously installed by Bruno’s was not OEM, which was triggering multiple error codes, including false downstream sensor issues. He also noted that the rattling noise was likely caused by internal failure of the catalytic converter. After these repairs, the check engine light has not returned. I returned to Bruno’s with the non-OEM part and explained the situation, seeking a remedy. James offered the following points: 1. Their repair guarantee would have covered any persisting issues. 2. Their system shows OEM parts were ordered. To counter: 1. Given my experience, returning to the same shop would not be reasonable given the questionable quality of the initial service. 2. I believe this constitutes misrepresentation, and I have evidence to prove the sensor installed was not OEM. I remain committed to resolving this matter amicably. I am requesting a full reimbursement of the oxygen sensor repair costs ($671.48), plus applicable sales tax. Please contact me only via written communication (text or email).

We took our car in for a routine oil change and he identified a problem caused by the last place we took it to, which he fixed quickly and for a fair price. I like that at Bruno's you always know what the cost will be up front, and they are good about answering their phones and calling with updates throughout the day. I appreciate the attention to detail. James even cleaned up some battery corrosion free of charge. I have had the opportunity to have my vehicles serviced by Bruno’s. It is a rare thing to find an auto repair shop that treats your vehicle (1999 Chevy Tahoe Z-71), as if it was your mother in ICU at the hospital. Michael kept me in the know every step of the way, he was very informative about every and any issues that were found even if not related to the issue at hand, never once pressured me to service anything other than what I was in for. There are only a handful of occupations everyone wishes they had in their family – a doctor, a dentist, and a mechanic. When something goes wrong with our vehicle that is beyond our ability to fix on our own placing our ability to go anywhere in jeopardy and we don’t have a mechanic in the family, the last thing we want is to be told we need to fix things that don’t need fixing or to be upsold. James at Bruno’s automotive may not be family, but let me tell you, that’s exactly how he treated me. He didn’t just take the time to go into great detail telling me what needed to be fixed on my truck, but he literally took pictures and showed me and printed out documentation explaining what was going on with my vehicle and provided different pricing options. Thank you, James! You’ve earned my business!!

Great honest shop with a REAL mechanic (James). I have been in Fayetteville all my life. I always took my car to H&L on Reilly Rd. That was a great shop with honest people. I usually dealt with Tommy or Joe. Now, James was one of the mechanics hired at H&L and he did an amazing job. H&L eventually closed which left me wondering where to get my work done. I found out that James worked here at Bruno's so I dropped off two of my vehicles at different times and I can say I am very satisfied. I am recommending James to family and friends. If you traded at H&L and your looking for a new shop, drop by and give James your business.

I had to take my Traverse in last year for engine work and I'm glad I did! James made sure to keep me updated on my car's progress and was incredibly friendly and worked hard to make sure my car was in top condition. Fast forward to this year when I had to take my car back in for a different issue. James was once again friendly and kept me informed every step of the way. He even saved me some money! I've had the pleasure of doing business with James at Bruno's Automotive, and I must say, he's been absolutely phenomenal! Since we found him, James has consistently demonstrated exceptional work ethic, honesty, and a deep knowledge of his craft. One thing that stood out to me was his ability to multitask and manage the workload almost single-handedly. However, it's clear he could use some additional support to maintain his high standards. I was in need of transmission work on my 2008 Hyundai, a stressful event to start, as this is my primary vehicle and my schedule is very busy. I live out of state and my son was in dire need of an honest mechanic. After reading tons of reviews and calling around, we decided on Bruno’s Automotive and I’m so thankful we did. James lived up to every positive review. He was honest, caring, straightforward, and truly went above and beyond to help us. We were already in a stressful situation after a mobile mechanic tried to charge us almost 3x what the repair actually needed (after paying for diagnostic) and James was compassionate, fair, and easy to work with from start to finish. He kept us updated, helped us prioritize repairs without breaking the bank, and there was absolutely no pressure or upselling. His pricing was more than reasonable, and he even included a veterans discount, which meant a lot. He also asked my son to bring the car back in a week just to make sure everything was still running as it should — that level of care is rare.
