Their 36 month warranty is a fabrication. They sold me a cracked radiator that failed in less than a year. Then they want to charge me more to replace their broken part.

Had a super smooth and easy experience at Dave’s. I bought my vehicle two months ago and already got a flat. I changed the flat myself and discovered the previous owner, or their mechanic cross threaded one of the lug nuts, so the lug nut and stud were ruined. I live two blocks from a Midas that I’d never been to on 40th and Guadalupe, so I took it there. They quoted just under $500 to replace one stud, one lug nut, and to patch the hole in the flat tire. That was obviously way too much for such a minor repair, so I got my car back, and looked for another shop near me. Dave’s had great reviews, so I called them up. They quoted me $212 for the same work. Sold! They were busy, but said they could take care of me in the morning. I scheduled an appointment for the next morning, but went ahead and dropped my car off just in case they got a chance to work on it earlier. I got lucky and they knocked out my repair the same day! And for a bit less than they quoted me! I’ll definitely be going back to Dave’s next time I need some work done and I highly recommend you do the same. Thank you to Deon, Tony, Ike, and everyone else who made this a positive experience!

Update: The regional manager contacted me after the review was posted and was very helpful. He addressed the problem at that location and sent me a check the next day for the replacement parts I bought and installed myself. Good guy. I’d try one of their other locations again. Unfortunately, the mechanic forgot to tighten the locking screws for the radiator support splash shield when he put it back on and it fell off on the way home. Two cars ran over it. I called after the 4th and let them know and could they help. They did offer to put the broken one back on. I was under time constraints, so I was okay with that. Also, i expecting them to buy a replacement part ($100). While I watched the mechanic reinstall the broken one, he again forgot to tighten the locking screws. I pointed it out, as I was under the car to watch. He didn’t seem to understand, I snapped one into place myself and said that’s why this fell off in the first place. He also installed one clip wrong and had to fix that. I ended up asking for the replacement part since this one was cracked in several places now. They said no. I said ‘you aren’t going to take responsibility?’ They said no. I suggested I don’t go around trying to scam auto shops out of $100 plastic car parts and that I’d worked on cars for over 30 years. It was my favorite newly found shop for me and my wife. We will never return after seeing the lack of skill and quality control, and lack of responsibility for the problem they caused. I ordered the part myself and will install the new one myself on my dime and time. Seemed odd they would lose two happy customers over their lack of ownership of their own work and mistake.

I went in 6 months ago to get a tire rotation. Now 6 month later, my regular mechanic where I normally get service can't get the lug nut bolts out of my wheels. I never had this issue before. The one time I had to get service at a near by location I went to Dave's, but came out with a troubling issue. They are normally wrenched in by hand at my current mechanic, but now they are completely stuck and now I have to handle this issue with my vehicle. Would be weary about tire rotation at this location.

Great service at competitive prices. I bring all my vehicles here for repairs and receive the same consistent service each and every time. A customer shuttle is available if needed and they even provide no charge loaner vehicles. Brilliant! Ask for Tommy!

Make sure you get a quote before you do business here. I didn’t bc I was in a hurry and I thought I could trust reviews about how “they won’t nickel-and-dime you.” As a result, I ended up paying about $300 more than I expected I would. They charged $25 for tire rotation, $130+ for cabin and engine filter replacement, $260+ for coolant flush, and $35+ for “job supplies.” The only reasonable charge was the oil change, which was surprisingly only $80. So if you’re looking to only do an oil change, this place might be ok. But everything else will be a lot pricier than normal. In short, if you’re looking to save money, I recommend you find another place or just do it yourself.

I made an appointment for my car after remembering the date and that I needed to get the emissions tested (Travis County requirement), and thought I would get my oil changed and tires rotated while I had the car there. Dropping off the car was easy and after handling over the keys I went back home. After giving me a recommendation (not a requirement) for AC work I was able to pay a reasonable price for the work and get my car back. I will be back in the future when my car needs work!

My girlfriend took her car in to get her transmission fluid checked, and to get an oil change and was wondering about why her car was having running issues at the time (I was in North Carolina and couldn’t look at it) so she pays for all of this service for them to never check her transmission fluid and they lied to me about it and lied about her being low on oil and the condition of her oil. The person on the phone call kept going back and forth and what he said was the case I would never recommend anyone to this shop ever

My car broke down and I had it towed here. The issue was under warranty, and instead of charging me $1000 to fix it they told me to take it to my dealership to get it fixed for free. I would have had no idea about the warranty until they told me & they even printed out the warranty details that I could bring to the dealership. Super impressed with the honesty & service & would definitely go back if I need to.

I discussed everything with them and they said to tow the car there and then refused to diagnose or repair and I had to spend money to tow my car AGAIN!! That is not fair or right! When I had my car towed, the driver said this is normal for them because he had towed other cars to another mechanic after they agreed to diagnose/fix the car. They also wanted almost 200 dollars to look at, no joke, a dead battery/alternator. This is not ok. I will be looking at contacting consumer protections.

They're a pretty reliable place for oil changes and seem to know what they're doing. However, beware that just like any other auto shop, they do tend to overcharge for certain easy to DIY repairs - for example, they quoted ~$125 for an engine air filter + cabin air filter. I understand this is the "industry standard" but it feels scummy everytime because both of these combined cost ~$50 tops (if you buy OEM) or ~$20 if you're okay buying cheap yet reliable stuff from Amazon. $50+ for what is like 5 minutes of labour at most (i.e. effectively $600/hr) is a ridiculous upcharge.

This place is great! My old car broke down on me and triple A took my car to them. They explained everything that was wrong, and fixed it in a timely manner. They never spoke down to me or made me feel dumb for my car being old and worn. After they fixed it, I traded that car in and got a new Subaru Forester. I took it in for an oil change, and decided I would wait for the car there. They warned me it would take a while, but it ended up only taking about an hour! They were great and super personable. I overheard them calling other customers to walk them through what needed to be done with detailed pricing as well. Seems like they have financing options, too! Super great place and I will 100% be back.

Austin and Ike at the Dave’s team are very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. They were able to help with an issue I was having my car and efficient in the fix. I know my vehicle is in great hands with the team and won’t go anywhere else for repairs or fixes. Thank you!

I've taken my cars to Dave's Ultimate Automotive on North Lamar for more than a decade, and I feel lucky to have found a place I can trust. Their folks are always kind and shoot straight. I recently dropped my Toyota Prius off at Dave's overnight for a hybrid system problem. They called me first thing in the morning, and I was back on the road by 2 p.m. Love them!

I had a great experience at the Lamar store in Austin. Very quick service. Ended up being a simple sensor issue. However, while there, they noticed my tires were dangerously low on tread and so I ended up having them purchase and install the four tires for me. Very happy about everything and plan to be an ongoing customer.

I have had a good experience taking my car to this Dave's location! Last December, I took my car to the dealership due to a recall and they had recommended other services. Instead of having the dealer do it I took my car to Dave's because I trusted them more. I gave them a laundry list of work to do: 1. A/C diagnostic (a/c had had issues which Dave had informed me of on a prior visit) 2. Brake fluid flush 3. Differential service (flush) 4. Transmission fluid exchange 5. wheel alignment: I myself had noted the car needed slight adjustments to back up in a straight line. I dropped the car off on New Year's Eve and to their credit, they completed all work in a timely fashion. I noticed an immediate improvement when driving my car after picking it up! :) While the a/c diagnostic ended with a recommendation to replace the car a/c compressor and condenser noone pushed me to have it done which I appreciated. What I like the most about taking my car is they always listen to what I want done and give their advice on work needs to be prioritized unlike the dealership who seemed more interested in pushing services not needed. I plan on taking any car I own to Dave's due to the great work they do and clear communication with me which other shops don't do. Thank you everyone at Dave's central Austin location, I appreciate you! EDIT: I forgot to mention the price. All services were reasonably priced and lower than what the dealer would have charged me for the same work.

I’ve been going to Dave’s since moving to Austin a few years ago and they always take great care of my Prius! They were really nice and let me come back and take a look at the rust underneath my car, plus walked me through the different services I was due for—then gave me a discount! Thank you to the Dave’s team 🙂

I want to start off by saying that I was treated with respect, curtesy and professionalism by the staff member who I believe name is Brad (Works at the front reception area). I took my car to be diagnosed for an Engine light on and a failed emissions test. From my first visit inquiring about their services, they explained their process and were very transparent about the work they would conduct to my vehicle. Scheduling an appointment, dropping off the vehicle, receiving updates on the diagnostics and picking up my vehicle was all really easy and friendly to do and conduct business with them. Unfortunately, my vehicle requires a new engine and the explanation and suggestions from the technician and the staff were very clear and understanding due to the age and condition of the vehicle. I received a quote for the repairs without feeling pressure into having to do the work there or being given sales tactics to spend thousands of dollars there, which means a lot. When picking up my vehicle the staff again was very respectful, courteous and respected my decisions as a customer. Definitely would recommend them and will come back here for future business.
