I don't write reviews but my experience with DAC was so different from the reviews I felt obligated to add my opinion. While Luis was pleasant and professional, and quickly arranged to have my car towed to the shop, the $340 labor cost I was quoted for a simple battery change was astounding. I called another shop and asked how much they would charge for labor for a 2000 Civic battery and he quoted me $50. I told him about the first estimate and he suggested perhaps DAC was accidentally quoting me the labor cost for a hybrid battery. I called DAC again and they confirmed the estimate. Luis could not provide a meaningful explanation of the cost. I said thanks but no thanks, and had the car towed to another shop. Luis asked me how much of a discount I needed for them to keep my business. I told him I preferred to give my business to the shop that gave me a fair estimate. I have no idea why my experience was so different from what others have reported. I know prices are going up on everything but this was so egregiously unreasonable as to be beyond belief. Maybe they are so in demand that they command seven times the price of their competitors. Be on your guard. Edit: I wish I'd read the responses this place gives to people who leave bad reviews, because they are full of red flags. Avoid.

DO NOT GO HERE. They tried to charge me $4400 for maintenance on brakes, a new battery and an oil change. Ended up still having to pay $160 on an inspection when i had specifically asked them to only look at the starter and battery. Definitely takes advantage of women and wouldn’t recommend to ANYONE.

Was happy originally with the services, but after a cascade of problems totaling over $3,500, I don't know about how happy we are with an end result. After 2000 miles my brakes were still grinding and squealing almost every single time I touch them. I even took it back before the last $1100 and they said they were fine, but like I said.. they weren't. Plus they charged us over $400 for a diagnosis and a battery.. seems like the more we went back, the more they up charged for the diagnosis. Won't be returning unless it's for something under warranty.

I have an Audi with a KO4 turbo. My car began running very rough and I brought it into Downtown Automotive. They diagnosed the issue as worn out motor mount and I had them replace it. After about a week the auto was running as well or better than it had been for a very long time. Additionally, Alicia, Luis and Bryan were very congenial and professional. The cost of the repair was very reasonable and the job was completed prior to promised. I highly recommend

Newer to Eugene and needed a mechanic to fix my passenger side door (It would not open from the inside or the outside.) I read the reviews for Downtown Automotive and decided to give them a try. They were extremely clear and articulate over the phone and in person. I was very happy with the experience and with the pricing for their work. They described in detail what they would do to discover the issue and everything went smoothly. Very efficient! We will definitely bring our cars here in the future.

This place was great and responsive. Luis/Brian kept me up to date on where they were at in the process. I realize that fixing older cars is not an exact science. They helped me get the car running again and gave me a list of other repairs needed so I can budget accordingly. I would go back again! Thanks DAC!

They were great at communicating with me during a very busy time! I kept forgetting to call back since I was moving but they were very good at reminding and informing me! Very detailed trip check and I have full access to that diagnostic for the future if anymore work will need to be done after my trip. Reasonable prices and great for people like me who don’t know much about cars! Very nice and understanding.

My husband and I were in Eugene visiting our daughter on vacation and we were leaving a restaurant and our vehicle would not go in reverse. We made many calls to different places trying to get our vehicle in trying to find out how much it would cost. We looked in to two other local mechanics who said we needed a new transmission. We were quoted $4,000 at one place, $3,600 at another place. Then we called Downtown Automotive Center and drove our vehicle (as it would still drive, but would t go into reverse) and we spoke with Luis the service technician who you could tell knew what he was talking about. He said we didn’t need a new transmission, just a part that makes the car go into reverse and second gear. The owner, Brian spoke with us and he quoted us $1400 for the parts and work to be done. They got our vehicle in and we had it back within 48 hours, which the other places said would take 4 to 6 days to complete. Honest, great people here. Easily could have taken advantage of out of town people, but instead they fixed just what the problem was. More business need to have service like this. Anyone in Eugene, I highly recommend these folks. Now we are back on the road safely. Thanks again Brian and Luis!

As someone who doesn’t know a whole lot about fixing vehicles, I trust them to know what is needed and not needed. They have taken good care of both of my beloved VW’s.

These are good guys and they know what they’re doing. They are also one of the only automotive shops that offers a lender car if they have one available, which was really helpful since my repair took a bit of time. Very professional and friendly.

I recently visited Downtown Automotive Center for some repairs on my car, and I must say that Brian and Luis did an amazing job. Not only did they provide top-notch services, but they also created a sense of family and community in the shop that made me feel at home. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm welcome and a smile, which set the tone for my experience. What impressed me the most was their excellent communication skills. They kept me informed about the status of my car and what needed to be done, and they always checked in to make sure I was satisfied with the progress. This level of attention made me feel valued as a customer and assured me that my car was in good hands. I appreciate the effort that Brian and Luis put into their work, and it's clear that they take pride in what they do. The whole team at Downtown Automotive Center made the experience stress-free and enjoyable. I highly recommend them to anyone in need of automotive services.

These guys convinced me that a misfire and warm start issue was a rear main seal/ pcv and clutch. Got charged 3800$ for what turned out to be fuse #23 blowing consistently, that I MYSELF found months later. (A melted connector on my Auxillary coolant pump was causing a short). The car runs great now after MY OWN diagnoses. I wish these guys would’ve gone through all the basics before giving me a definitive answer and charging me all that money. Not to mention my car sat in their lot for two whole months in the middle of the summer which caused my headliner to sag from the heat.

They will over charge you and insist on way more work than needs to be done. They told me I needed a full suspension fix when the issue was one worn joint, and all 4 calipers when just one was seized. They seem nice and informed, and I like the diagnostic they send you after an inspection, but you can get all that for free at Les Schwab with more detail on the issues. The suggestions are dramatic and that’ll cost you a lot.

These guys were fast, courteous, precise and had my car running quicker than I could say "Thank You God!" [I LOVED THE VISUAL UPDATE THEY SENT]. During the process. Who does that? Great touch!

Genuinely the best experience I’ve ever had with a mechanic. I had just bought my first car and it was giving me a whole bunch of problems, but they were patient and supportive and continued to work with me and the car even when things kept going wrong. Can’t thank them enough for their graciousness!

Charged $1000 to do a brake job they did not have the equipment to properly complete. They could not fix it due to their own inability to bleed the brakes (a standard procedure). Took several extra days beyond what they had stated because they couldn't finish the job, but we were still charged despite not completing the work. I would NEVER consider working with them again. If they did not have the tool they needed, they should not have taken the job, and they should not have expected so much money to fail.

The staff at the auto repair shop were extremely nice and friendly. They thoroughly examined my entire car and even provided a complimentary Lyft ride to and from the shop, which I really appreciated. However, my only concern is with their pricing structure. I feel it could be more flexible. It would be helpful if they offered a quick diagnostic option at a minimal charge, rather than requiring a full inspection at a higher cost just to identify the issue.

Great Service! This was my first time at Downtown Auto Repair. The previous auto shop I had been doing business with for several years, unexpectedly went out of business and I needed to find a new place fast as my car needed immediate attention. I went in without an appointment and they were more than happy to help me. Since I had to go into work that day, they ordered a Lyft to drive me to work and then to pick me up after work. The person behind the counter Wes, was very friendly and cheerful. They fixed the issue that I went in there for but told me my car needed more work done. I knew that I had neglected some issues with my car, so I will be bringing it back for more work next week since they had to order a part and couldn't do it the same day. Wes was very helpful in explaining what my car needed done. I am happy to have found a new mechanic so fast.
