A model business. I've been going to Sam's for years. They do excellent work. As importantly, he and his staff exemplify integrity and commitment to service. Their prices are very reasonable, they are honest, and if they tell you they'll get the job done, they'll get it done when they say they will, and if they know they can't, they'll tell you that and refer you to someone they trust who can. I've referred more people to Sam's than probably any other business.

I've been going to Downtown Mobil Services for a few years now. Whenever I've had more serious car issues and I'm out of their range for towing - I pay AAA extra to get towed to Downtown Mobil. Sam and his team do a great job. I always appreciate Sam's honesty and really useful explanations. He's very conscious of cost, and will always offer the most affordable service.

Thought I needed ball joints. Was going to do myself but their price was nice so I thought I should let an expert handle it. Whew! I am glad I did. Turned out it was something different and only half the price. Sam and his team at Downtown Mobile Services are everything you want in a mechanic: Good, fair price,and honest. The only car shop I trust!!! I’ve been to so many other repair shops and have been upcharged so many times. I started working in corktown recently and happened to stop at Downtown Mobil for help with some issues when my engine light popped on.. it was a seamless and stress free experience! The owner and employees treated me like family. They didn’t try to add on unnecessary fees and costs. It’s now my favorite and only mechanic shop I will visit! Thank you downtown mobil!

As someone who grew up with only Sam doing maintenance on cars all I can say is they picked a great person to take over! From 2017: My family has been going here for years! These folks really seem to care about the work they are doing and are no-nonsense when it comes to getting the job done. Our Chevy Volt had front-end noise - it was quickly diagnosed as a bad bearing and they had it back to us in five hours with the problem solved. Friendly owners / mechanics. I just picked up my car due to it making a whining noise on the driver side as well as the brakes were giving an air sound. The shop checked it out and noticed that a rock was lodge around the brakes / rotor area. Used an air compressor to blow and clean out which appears to have done the job. The brakes were ok. This shop was Honest about the issue and didn't attempt to charge for an unnecessary service! I truly appreciate the transparency and honesty!

I have a long relationship with this garage. It used to be owned by Sam: it was more expensive than some, but trustworthy and quick. Sam has now retired and ownership has changed. It is no longer trustworthy. I took my car in for a simple tire patch. The charge was $25, which is considerably higher than tire shops in the area, but I needed it done quickly and reliably on a Saturday. I was called shortly after I dropped it off, to let me know it was done. It was a critical repair, since I was literally leaving right after on a 500+ mile road trip. The tire had a lot of vibration in it on the trip, so I took it for a balance when I arrived in NC. The nail was still in it. No patch. The fix a flat liquid was still in it, which is why it had the vibration. Plus, my handicap placard had been removed from the car. So, I was charged, it wasn't fixed (and probably dangerous), and they stole my handicap sign. I will be reporting this to the state. They also did not give me a receipt, which they are required to do, but fortunately I have the call recorded when they told me the car was ready.
