Our car's engine died within 5 minutes of getting the oil changed at a nearby quick lube chain shop. I called Foreign Car Workshop, and Ryan immediately walked down the street, diagnosed the problem (oil on the engine air intake sensor), fixed the issue, and wouldn't accept any payment. He just said "bring your car to us for your next service". I've used Foreign Car Workshop for general maintenance in the past (oil change, new spark plugs..etc), and will definitely use them going forward. Excellent and honest service. 5 stars.

Amazing experience with Foreign Car. Our 2010 Cooper came up with misfires and a flashing check engine light. After trying to diagnose the issue ourselves we determined it was time to get it in to the shop. Foreign Car was booked up for the next couple weeks but let us know to check back and see if they had room to drop it off and would try to work on it between appointments since it is our only vehicle - we live in Alki so are pretty car-dependant. We were able to drop it off early and the very next day they called to let us know they had determined the fix and the car would be ready by the end of the day for a very reasonable price! I will be going back for any other issues in the future. These guys are great and Ryan was very helpful in helping diagnose what the probable causes were on the phone. Love these guys. THANKING YOU!

Ryan has been wonderful to work with over the past years. He has managed to accommodate me for repairs on short notice. He is always professional and polite. Great work, Ryan and Edgar. Much appreciated.

We've used Foreign car for 35 years (starting when Ryan's dad Perry ran it), have recommended to every West Seattle friend that I have (and a few outside West Seattle), and have nothing but total gratitude. Even for routine maintenance like oil changes, I always take it to them because I know they'll look my car over and give me an honest sense of if there's anything else that's needed. And they won't promote service that isn't needed. We've used them for everything over the years--routine maintenance, inspection when we're buying new used cars, specific problems when they come up. They can do pretty much anything on any car, except core charging and engine systems on electrics, which I hope they'll be adding. Recently i took our 2011 Nissan Leaf to Burien Nissan for the latter, who gave an outrageous price for a charging problem which High Road in Ballard fixed for a third of the cost. They also also "suggested" $1100 of other repairs, half of which Foreign Car said were completely unnecessary, and the rest of which they did for $300. Can't tell you what a gift it is to have a repair shop you totally trust, and that's true in the case of Foreign Car.

I wrote a long review on Yelp so I'll keep this one simple. I trust these guys. Like the other reviews say, you can tell that it's family owned. But more than that, I felt at ease. I was using Jiffy Lube before coming here -- called them to get an estimate for B1 service for my car. They told me it would start around $450. Called Foreign Car Workshop and received a $154 quote. Better pricing, better feeling. I highly recommend Ryan and his team.

Ryan and the team at FCW are great. My family has been taking our vehicles to them for years. They are honest and do great work. I would highly recommend Foreign Car to anyone looking for a high quality mechanic at a great value.

I recently went to foreign car workshop to get my Toyota Tacoma serviced. Seemed simple enough and it was quite so. Staff is friendly and inviting. There is something to be said about the feel of a local family owned business. They treat you like family right? Price was in line with the market so absolutely fair- I like supporting local businesses and If your looking for honest advice and get treated like family, they are at the top of my list.

Ryan and his team truly do outstanding work. They know their trade well, are reliable and responsible, and charge a fair price. Most of of all, they are trustworthy. Being able to trust your mechanic may be one of the greatest joys in life. Try them out ... you will be so happy that you may weep.

Like other reviews stated, Ryan is super honest and will not rip you off unlike other unnamed chains nearby. Take your car here if you want the work done right with quality parts at a fair price. Super thankful his shop is in West Seattle where I live, because even if I lived in another Seattle neighborhood, I'd still make the journey to bring my 20 year old 4Runner here. Easy 5/5 stars.

I brought my car in for an oil change and asked Ryan at the time of sign in if he could check an additional issue I was having with my front suspension (knocking/clunking). I came back to pick up my car with the oil changed and no more suspension noise! I was told there were some loose bolts on my sway bar links that he was nice enough to take care of. I walked out of the shop with an oil change and no suspension noise for less than what another shop had charged me a couple months ago for just the oil change! I would highly recommend coming this shop for your mechanical needs! Perfect location, price, customer service and more!

Top service at best price. I prefer going here over Mercedes Benz dealership which prides itself on customer service and costs way more. Great experience and cannot recommend enough!

I’ve been taking my now-20-year-old BMW to Foreign Car Workshop for several years now. Every time, the service has been above and beyond. They do a great job of explaining exactly what’s going on with the car and the nature of the repairs. They work fast yet don’t sacrifice quality. Recently I needed a bulb replaced in my headlight but couldn’t manage it myself. I brought the bulb to the shop and they changed it out in 10 minutes in the parking lot. Didn’t even charge for it! I can’t recommend Foreign Car Workshop enough.

Had a great first experience here for maintenance on my old camry. Ryan gave me a really great quote for the work and got it done in a timely fashion. Nice to not feel like you're getting hustled for repairs. Would def recommend checking them out. Will be back for sure. Thanks!

The best car shop in all of Seattle. My parents have been coming here since the 90's, and I have been coming here for the last decade or so. Ryan is amazing and so is his team. I usually call other shops for quotes, just to see how much of a better deal I am getting at Foreign Car Workshop. There is no other shop I trust more for any issues with my car.

I have been coming here through 3 cars over the years. Ryan and his crew are so friendly and really helpful especially when you are on a budget! Not once have I been upsold a service! Everytime I walk out feeling more knowledgeable. All the techs always tell me about things I should possibly need to repair in 6 months and have gotten excellent referrals to other experts when necessary. This place is the best!

I usually absolutely despise mechanics because they rip people off and try to up charge you for stuff that just isn’t needed while assuming you just don’t know what you are talking about, BUT… I was told about this place by my girlfriend’s family. I thought I had a water pump go out but I didn’t have the right tools to take care of it myself. Called Ryan and told him what I thought and he told me to bring it down. Ryan confirmed it was a water pump, gave me a fair estimate and had it done day of. Didn’t try to up charge me and the price was the same when I got there. It really is the simple stuff that so many places get wrong. Thanks for all the help today guys! I’ll be back if anything else goes out.

Found orange fluid under the front end of my car and took it in to inspect for a leak, based on a friend's recommendation. (They bring two vehicles here for services.) Ryan was helpful and no hassle, answered all my questions about drop-off, fees, etc., up front. Was going to leave it over night but he looked at it that day. He said it looked like the battery had recently been replaced, which he was totally right about, and that had created rust dust that mixed with water and caused the orange fluid drips. He made sure nothing appeared to be a safety issue. I was able to pick my car up that same day, no charge. Other places wanted between $175-$190 just to look at it. I'll be needing a tune-up a couple hundred miles down the road and I'll be bringing my car back here. Very communicative, honest and easy-going customer service. Update for May 2025: After hitting a speed bump, something started rattling underneath my car. Took my car to a former shop on a Saturday for a look and estimate for repairs. Was charged $71 and told I needed a new suspension and front brakes. Estimate was $2500. Waited a couple of days to get it to Foreign Car Workshop for a second opinion. Ryan got back to me quickly, no charge, and told me I needed a new upper shock mount. He got the part ordered, delivered and installed within 24 hours, and I paid what I was quoted. He also told me my brakes still have life in them. Literally saved me thousands of dollars and my ride is rattle-free. I'm planning to be a permanent customer.

I came in for a simple oil change on my 2005 Acura TL a few weeks ago— my first time using this shop — and left genuinely impressed. Ryan treated the visit with care and attention far beyond what you'd expect for something routine. He was kind, transparent, and clearly takes pride in his work. It’s rare to feel that looked after, even for something small. I’m really glad I found this place.

The engine in my wife's BMW went out. After receiving a ridiculous price from the dealer, I put a motor request out online and received a good motor from Car Part Express out of Texas. They shipped the engine and was installed at a reasonable price. The car has been back now for two weeks with zero problems. I have a happy wife and a happy bank account. I am a huge fan of Car Part Express and Foreign Car Workshop!
