Our first experience was really great , And if you are taking your car there to have them fix it you will be happy as well. However, don't join the club to be able to use the lifts because we have yet to be able to use our membership except for the first time when we bought it. Every time we call there are no openings...

These guys were great. I've been in twice and Highly Recommend owner Joel and Service Mgr Brad. First time, my LaCrosse had a wheel hub sensor issue. It could've been very expensive. Because I didn't want to spend hours trying to diagnose the problem, then have to spend more on costly parts, I just asked them to take a quick look but not spend a bunch of time on it. I asked them to simply replace the parts. When I came back in the afternoon, they found the problem was a poorly made wiring connection. I was only charged for that. I'd been expecting to pay hundreds o dollars. Instead I got out with a very small bill. Second time I went in to change my own oil. Because I was in and out so quickly, they gave me a bit of a break. Much appreciated! The shop seems to have a full array of tools, it's conveniently located, the guys are very helpful and honest. I've told a bunch of people about this shop. Thanks!

Very good experience. Dropped of auto for front brake pad replacement. Work finished quickly(90 min). Very fair charge, compared to other quotes. No upsell pressure.

Great place but I have gotten two oil changes both time the oil plug wasn't closed tightly. First time I lost half my oil in a week. Was there last week got new breaks and rotors and another oil change and it's leaking again. Had another mechanic tell me after the 1st oil change it was open a full 1 and a half turn.

Joel and Brad are great! We have had them servicing our car and truck for about three years now. From keeping our Saturn kicking for over 250k miles and rebuilding our 2005 Avalanche, we wouldn't go anywhere else. They are honest, and are more than fair in pricing. If you are looking for a great go to mechanic, we highly recommend them.

Joel and the mechanic i worked with were very nice and helpful. The price they gave me to replace my two front brake pads and rotors was great and way better than what other places were quoting me at. Did the job quick and highly recommend for brake pad replacement /repair.

Brad, the owner himself, installed my VLAND head lights and tail lights and inspected my car that had a check engine light with no appointment and got it done the same day within a few hours. He was super helpful and nice, very committed to getting the job done for myself and other customers that he and his employees worked throughout their lunch break and did this happily. I was even missing the ballast i needed for the install and instead of giving up and saying he was unable to do the install, he found a way. Very satisfied with my services and the outcome. i will be coming here again when i get the actual VLAND parts needed to get the best results possible, which are only here , at Gearheads!

When I say this is the best shop... I mean so it in so many different ways. Last minute or unexpected repairs needed? They had my back. Needed to save money? They let me know where I could stretch or cut corners. Needed a fast turnaround? These angels didn't even bat an eye. Gave me a realistic estimate to plan around and kept to their word. Every estimate they've ever given me has been accurate - for time as well as for price. They explain the stuff that goes over my head so I can make an informed decision. I mean, that's better customer service than I get at practically any kind of business! I love these dudes and would recommend them to Any and everyone

I wanted to like this place so bad! I've been looking for a place like this forever. I love that they have the option where you can choose to have them do the work or do it yourself. When I set up the appointment to have them change my fuel pump I was so excited, I even asked Brad the guy who checked me in to add the membership fee to my bill before leaving my keys with them. I left and came back 3-4 hours later, they were finishing up. I walked into the shop see the progress. I didn't think it was a big deal because they have DIY service plans. Brad came out to tell me I couldn't be in the shop. I said ok, and backed up to the shop opening and stoop about 3 feet from the office door, trying to look at the shop set up, (tools, lifts, etc that would be available in the membership) and the other dude in the office came out and started yelling at me like a nut. "Get out of my shop! You can be outside or in the office!" I told him I was trying to get familiar with the shop for the membership and he said there were signs all over prohibiting that behavior. There are not. After waiting in the office while they finished up, I looked all over the shop inside and outside, I didn't find one visible sign regarding entering the shop. They did a good job switching out my fuel pump and I still like their business concept, but I decided not to join the membership because that guy clearly has some impulse control issues and I won't want to be in a shop with someone like that. I also recommend that if you're going to go ballistic about people entering your shop, you might actually want to put up some signage.

It’s not easy to find a DIY shop with lifts so I was pretty excited when I came to San Diego from Florida and found Gearheads. As a seasoned DIYer I appreciate the no-nonsense approach to accessing a lift. First time I got there my car was on a lift in a matter of minutes after watching a two-minute video and signing a liability waiver. The mechanics that have been there on my three visits are friendly and approachable if you have a question about the lifts or need to borrow a tool. I purchased a membership on my second visit and will make regular use of it as it reduces the stress of owning a high-maintenance car while giving me the ability to enjoy my hobby in a good environment.

After a year of trying to diagnose a problem at another mechanic, only to have the issue get progressively worse, these guys fixed it for $315. I spent thousands at the other place with no solution. From the bottom of my heart (not an exaggeration) - thank you

Had my brakes done here awhile back. The price was fair, and the work was done quickly. I would 100% recommend this shop if you’re a car enthusiast. You can do DIY work here in a shop setting, and if you get in over your head pass it off to a legit mechanic.

This us a great place to work in your own car. They have lifts, all kinds of tools, including air powered and impact drivers, all part of the $30 an hour price you pay. It's only $15 an hour if you pay a yearly membership fee. They also have guys to help. They were a bit over it today, but it was pretty hot in the shop. Still, it's in Oceanside, so it never gets too, too hot.

Replaced a head gasket in my cheap 2014 hyundai for less than a third what a dealership was asking (like $10k!) Showed me the part and everything; a cylinder had somehow gotten a hole in it, right on top. Shop owner didn't pressure extra work to be done, in fact I had to convince him to have the brakes fixed up because they were at 3mm and I definitely felt it was harder to stop than it used to be. They work awesome now. A few thousand put into a paid off car is still far less than a new payment and insurance on a new one.

I had a great experience with Gearheads. Brad was a straight shooter—honest, knowledgeable, and didn’t try to upsell me on anything I didn’t actually need. He took the time to explain what was necessary and what could wait, which I really appreciated. You don’t find too many shops like this one anymore—where integrity and customer care come before profit. Highly recommend Gearheads if you want reliable, no-BS service. I will be back here for all of my truck services.

Pros: it's cheap I guess. There's a tech there that's really nice. Cons: all the lifts are leaking and so are all the stands and jacks and any tools you'll be using. The lift we used isnt on level ground, jacks up unevenly. The main office staff (owners I assume) are incredibly rude. Terrible attitude for no reason. It's pretty clear they don't want more customers. Unfortunately for the SD area, there's no other options so your options are: 1. Go to LA for a DIY shop 2. Befriend a local shop owner 3. Buddy up with any military/veteran for on-base shop 4. Buy your own lifts lol

This place is amazing! I've been using them for a few years, doing my own work. Today I was doing a brake job on my F150 and had a caliper piston boot tear, leaking brake fluid. The shop manager ordered a replacement from NAPA and it got delivered in 20 minutes, and he talked me through the replacement. Excellent facilities and equipment and great people!
