It's rare I leave a 1-star review but in this case it was justified. The team at Grease Monkey decided to fail my emissions test because the guy said the welding on the catalytic converter "looked custom and sketchy". The techs are apparently inexperienced and don't understand that: - most aftermarket cats will be welded. - emission tests are about whether OBD monitors are ready, passing tailpipe standards, and whether you have proper EPA-approved cats installed. - I had EPA-rated Magnaflow cats, professionally installed and welded by Fat Bob's Garage in Layton. - they should NOT fail people because they spot custom welding. I even offered to have him call and speak to the shop I worked with so he could talk to a professional about his concerns. The Grease Monkey manager refused to do this, and simply kept repeating that he's failing me and I have to go to some government office to challenge it. He made zero effort to assess whether his analysis of the situation was mistaken, or to talk to the shop that had recently updated my cats. Had he done that, the interaction would've been much more positive. They also printed out a paper with recommendations, saying I needed automatic transmission fluid when my car is a manual. Just another detail to show that they're inexperienced or not paying attention. Then, to top it off, he tried to *charge* me for the test. A test I actually passed as they're meant to be given, but one he decided to fail me based on his misguided idea that welded cats are bad. He even threatened to call the police if I didn't pay for their test. I took my car to Riverton Emissions down the street they agreed that you are NOT supposed to fail people for custom welding. As a resident of South Jordan and frequent customer, they really soured my view and I'll be taking my car elsewhere. A little effort goes a long way. Without a doubt the worst experience I've ever had with a business in the last decade.

Been busy so haven't been able to get to the review but here we go... First time at a Grease Monkeys a couple weeks back. Dalton and his staff couldn't get the filter top off so my filter was not checked to see if it needed to be changed. Then Dalton dropped and lost a seal for the air intake. The part that attached together has been wobbly ever since and every so often I have to slide it back into place myself now which I'll address next time I do an oil change somewhere else. Dalton reassured me it'd be fine and wouldn't come loose but even in front of him it would come loose and it seemed him and his employee were just trying to get me out of there because they spent time looking for the seal he lost and ended up putting a random one which at first he said was the original one but then I got him to confess it was indeed just an extra one they had. Avoid this place. I know their reviews seem good and that's why I gave them a chance but they had no idea what they were doing all around it seemed working on a Volkswagon Jetta. Made me late for work that day and still having to slide the intake mount onto the hose every so often is annoying. I recorded a video of what happened with Dalton admitting they messed up in case anything breaks from the tubes coming undone because of the misfitted seal. Avoid.

I was quite satisfied with their services until today. I came in for an oil change and tire rotation. During tire rotation I was informed that one lug nut was just spinning, because the lug nut was broken. I asked how that could have happened, and was told that over torque, or simply driving could have caused it. I told the technician that last time the wheels were taken off was in April and it was done in this location, so if over torque was the cause of the stud braking off,then it’s obviously their fault,to which technician replied that that’s impossible because they torque lugs nuts up to specs. They were not able to repair the problem, so I went to another location, where technician inspected the problem, and informed me that lug nut was cross threaded on the stud when previously installed, and that attempt to loosen cross threaded and torqued lug nut caused the stud to break. This technician fixed the problem. He also told me that many technicians use power drivers to set and tighten lug nuts instead of threading them on by hand, and using power drivers only to tighten,and this was just such case. Very disappointing experience with this location, but good experience with another. EDIT. 09.29.2025. Front skid plate under the engine, which had to be removed to drain oil, and reinstalled, fell off 245 miles after oil change. Dealer informed me that some of 9 bolts were not installed, as clips to which bolts were supposed to be screwed into were missing.

Got my oil changed at another no named place! Dumb idea!!! Next day I’m leaving oil puddles all over. My oil light came on again, almost totally empty. Hands down Worst experience I have ever had at any kind of oil company. The young kids that worked there couldn’t seem to figure out how to type in the code for the coupon That is active on the website for this location. I was told to take it down or not when I address the situation and address the manager, letting him know that before I had them pull my car into the bay. I asked if this coupon was valid and I was told it was after they do my oil change they told me they didn’t want to validate it, which was not OK and then they refuse to give me my keys. Do not come to this location unless you want to be scammed because they scammed the first three people before me too and had nothing but disrespect this is the worst grease monkey I’ve ever been to next time I’ll just go to Jiffy Lube because at least I know they are going to purposely ruin my car, But at least I know what to expect.

What impressed me was the employee who told the girl waiting in the lobby that her oil was clean and that he could not honestly perform an oil change, but would top off her fluids and send her on her way. I don't know the details, but I do know that not everywhere would do the same. Good on him and good on Grease Monkey for having an honest employee.

This was my first visit to the grease monkey on 114th, South and South Jordan. The two staff members that were working Zach and Dalton were so kind and efficient . They explained what services I might want to use for my car. I didn’t feel pressured to buy extra services. They also. took time to me find a coupon code.
