Never had any issues with this shop until I had to bring my new car. I had to take the car back weekly for a month and the original issue is still not fixed, but after a month they find a new issue causing the problem. I filed a complaint with the BAR and now the shop is making up things that they never wrote on the original work order from the previous month. Edit: after my issue with the shop they were fair and gave me back some of my money, all in all not a bad shop I just had an unlucky issue

Much needed review. I'm usually a diy car guy. Oil changes, tune ups, brakes, and replacement parts. I do it at home. However more complex problems I go to the pros. I drive a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis. In 2015 my car made a grinding noise whenever I turned the wheel. My power steering resevior was bone dry. Added fluid and it was good. Then short the next day bone dry again and fluids on the floor. I figured it needed a new ps pump. I called several places and was quoted 900 dollars. Wow. Honest Engine quoted less than that. I went for it. Honest Engine diagnosed it and installed the new pump. Before sending my car back they noticed different fluid leaking. Turns out my brake line needed to be fixed. They fixed that too! My safety was a priority to them and they handled it instead of ignoring it. Thank you Honest Engine for all your work, communication, and sticking to your name. It's hard to find a good auto shop but hands down best in Modesto. Sorry my car gave you much headaches but it's my baby and will drive it forever! Keep up the great honest work. Much success to you all. Will come back if another big problem happens.

Paid them to put motor in my truck,I even bought the motor and they just replaced the intake manifold. Reason I know this is because the motor I bought had a stamp on the block and motor in my truck did not they are scam artist

I trust these guys, and that's rare for me with a mechanic. Honest Engine does something that's very unusual these days -- instead of just swapping parts until the problem is solved, they actually DIAGNOSE what's wrong and repair it. I've suffered through a number of "parts-swappers", and everything ends up costing a fortune. With Honest Engine, I only pay for the work I actually need, which saves hundreds (sometimes thousands!) of dollars. Oh, and when I needed a referral for A/C work, the shop they referred me to ended up solving the problem with a simple valve cleaning for a grand total of $50. The local mechanic I'd gone to for an estimate before Honest Engine quoted me $2500 for the repair. I wish they were closer to where I live (about 22 miles), but it's well worth the extra time and miles to go to someone I trust.

Spent hundreds of dollars on a brake job. Brakes started going out in four months. I lost the receipt but was comfortable in thinking that a business would keep computer records. The guy try to tell me they don't have any records of the work that they do in there business. Now really guys do you believe this? Bunch of bull. They just didn't want to stand behind their work.

Loved my experience. I took my car in to get a tune up (oil and just a basic check). They informed me that a belt was in bad condition and would need to be repaired soon. They didn't charge me for the diagnosis and didn't make me order the part right then and there. They told me the downside to waiting, but also told me I had a few more weeks before it was really necessary. Thats a very rare quality to find for a mechanic!

They're super honest as their name suggests! I've taken my truck there a few times and cars as well. They do treat you like family , I should know I have their cell phone numbers personally. They will let you know the cost and procedures before they do any repairs. The best mechanic I've ever been to!! Highly recommend !!

Honest Engine is not so honest I went in for a brake job the larger guy with long hair and a pony tail told me $250 I said ok rear brake pads and rotors then I called him to ask how car is doing and he said I was just about to call you to tell you the auto parts store doesn't have the basic pads and rotors and they only have the premium and would cost me $450 I had to say yes because I needed my car back ASAP and when I got the car and drove home I looked at the pads and rotors he had installed basic parts and told me he had put premium he literally scammed me out of my hard earned money I recommend not to go here unless u want to get taken advantage of

This is my go to place for repair. Just took my Mazda in and they did a nice tune up and brake adjustment and they are true to their name. They explained that the brakes were still in good shape but needed an adjustment and some dust blown off. They were honest about things. That is why they get my repeat business. They also did a nice job on a Chevy Equinox I brought in as well for my folks.Thank you for being a place I can put my trust in.

Had a bad alternator and this place was recommended by the auto zone on Oakdale/wylie area. While there was a very small delay in getting the work done due to a rare part mishap on the vendor’s part (said delay explained up front by the head guy there), they took care of me promptly. This was important because my prior mechanic (Autoworks in Spyres, a super exemplary place) closed without my knowledge. I need a person I can trust with the complex stuff and I’d say honest engine is the next man up. Thank you so much!

These guys are truly honest. We took a used car that we purchased over to them to have it looked over. We essentially gave them authorization to check and fix whatever they could find with the cooling system, transmission, brakes, A/C, spark plugs etc. The whole 9 yards. We wanted to make sure the car was not going to leave us stranded. They fixed what needed to be fixed and didn't charge us for anything that didn't need further attention. The A/C is running super cold now, cabin & air filters changed, new spark plugs and the car is running really well. Best of all, they could have said the car needed a lot more and we would have paid it but they didn't. Honest service at really good prices. We highly recommend these guys!

This review is overdue..my apologies. In September 2024 we were stranded 2 hours from home visiting our family. Nasser was amazing! I'm disabled and we are on a fixed income. He inspected our car and noticed that our ac compressor was very new but wasn't properly done by our previous mechanic. He recommended for us to go back to our mechanic since the part would be still under warranty and would save us the cost to redo the repair all over again. He helped us get tow service to get home safely. He went above and beyond to help us. We owe him so much and are soo grateful. Highly recommend this shop. They are very honest and kind. They very much live up to their shop name. Thank you so much!
