had a 6.5 done at loves machine and they had it for 9 months and tried charging me for more than what I wanted done. These guys had mine for 1 week only cause I forgot to bring parts for them to get it done. These guys are fast and good. Thanks Hunter Machine

Redd and the crew are awesome. I have a repair shop in West Valley and have had at least 200 valve jobs done, only once did we have a problem with a valve and they not only repaired it quickly but paid me to re-remove the head and bought all gasket sets! It is great to have a true machinist that is knowledgeable and fair. Thanks for your hard work guys.

They are awesome. Real price given up front and work done right. The gave great advise, knowledge, and friendly help all free of charge. Their machine work and labor was more than fair. The owner truly cares about his customers. They did the motor in my 69' Chevelle. Because of the owner's superior craftsmanship it was 368 rwhp with old closed chambered heads. THAT IS AMAZING.

First full engine rebuild I have ever done I did through these guys over the past year. I had no idea what I was doing and every trip I made I was unprepared. But they were patient and helped me along. I waited to write the review until I reached the finish line. Everything checks out and I'm about to drop it into my Chevelle in the coming weeks. Incredibly grateful to these guys and their extensive knowledge of this craft to help me bring this project back to life.

I grew up next to Red and was great friends with his oldest son. Great family and great love a racing machining and repair. I knew when they opened their shoo that they would succeed. I am very impressed by the clean organized shop . Very nice! That attention will flow right into your quality and repair.

Great machine work, this place has been around for as long as I can remember and has an excellent reputation. I will be bringing them all of my automotive machine work as long as I'm still building engines.

I have only one experience here, but it led me to believe that these guys are truly masters of their craft. I had them clean and recondition some cylinder heads for me, and they did great work at a very reasonable price. I would not hesitate to go there again.

Not the only Automotive Machine Shop in town but it is a great one. They get things done in a timely manner while providing excellent customer service. I took in my Audi 2.0 L. Cylinder head to have valve springs installed and it was ready to go the day after.

Great shop, very knowledgeable and very helpful. This was the first time I got any work done on a motor before and they answered my questions and helped me figure out what exactly I needed done.

The best machine shop in Ut. Thanks to Kyle and Red. They have helped me since the 97 when I rebuild my first motor. They do great work on automotive and industrial engines like the 4 cyl Cummins.

I was very pleased with Hunter Machine I dropped a head off for machining and they discovered that the head I was provided just 15,000 miles ago was not a new head and was cracked. They were very competent in their work and were looking forward to completing the job but found that it would not be possible to guarantee their work.

Where do I start. Shaun sent me a text after picking up my overpriced engine that he did machine work on stating "Hey, if everything goes well, we're trying to build up our Google reviews to kind of come into the computer age. If you don't mind leave us a good Google review I'd appreciate it." Well Shaun, I decided to leave you your review. When I dropped off the engine it still had visible hash marks in the cylinders and barely a ridge. I specifically said hone, only bore the minimum only if you have to. He stated he had an issue with one cylinder and he bored them .75. I can only assume the issue he had was him messing up the bore job and having to go .75 to cover up his mistake. Second, the dip stick tube was rusted into the block, i asked him if he had a good way to get it out, and if he cant then i will drill it out later. Well he managed to get it out by apparently whatever means necessary, by destroying the tube and breaking the block. His comment, " I chipped the block and messed up the tube, but I bought you a new tube so no worries" Yah you bought a new tube and charged me for it. His idea of chipping the block was breaking off a chunk to the point the dipstick tube has no surface to seal against. The only fix is to JB weld the tube into the block. Couldnt you at least of kept the piece you broke off? Also he said if i have any issues assembling it to call immediately. #1. he couldn't repair one of the heads, so he bought me a new head, after talking to engine tech, it was not a new head, it was a reman head. The not new head had a bolt on cam gear, OEM was press on gears, so i had no hardware to bolt on the cam gear, had to get parts from the dealer and wait for them to be ordered. The not new head had bad threads on one of the spark plug holes, something else i have to fix now. Timed the engine, put on the tone ring, went to put front cover on, wont fit. The timing set he ordered had the wrong crankshaft sprocket, had to reuse the old sprocket. Seal kit he ordered was wrong, had to purchase numerous seals from the auto parts store. He doesnt tell you until its to late that if you use a credit card he charges 3% more, This is also the first shop I have ever seen charge tax on labor. I took his advice when I ran into the first of many issues and called the shop. Of course Shaun wasn't there and the guy on the phone couldnt do anything. I texted and left Shaun a voicemail and got crickets. All in all it would have been cheaper to order a long block from the dealer. Hunter machine owes me a refund on the wrong timing set, wrong seal kit and wrong head that he ordered along with a new block since he broke it. Shaun should at least have the nerve to call me back.

Red is awesome really helpful and nice guy. helped save me thousands by confirming my k20 head wasnt cracked and that it was just casting, port, polished, did a valve job and installed all my parts including my valve guides all for a good reasonable price. definitely going back for my future builds

Where do i start... I had my duramax engine built at hunter machine. Only to have catastrophic failure after failure. The block never got decked the machine work was meh and the reassembly was horrible. They put freeze plugs IN MY WATER JACKETS where they were not supposed to be which overheated the motor 3 times till i figured it out . i had to pull my motor out 3 different times trying to figure this problem out. Once i did i got the engine put all back together only to find a major oil leak that i had to one more time pull my engine out again to find a oil galley plug intalled incorrectly. Once i figured that out i had to repair the leak and put the motor back in the truck. I finished it up and have since driven it About 7000 miles , which i hesitated to drive the truck from fear of the truck breaking down. Only to lose oil pressure and lost all coolant. Where did it go you ask, well it came out another freeze plug that was installed incorrectly. Filling the crankcase with coolant which pressurized the oil enough to blow out the rear main seal. The freeze plug that came out was behind the water pump. The freeze plug got chewed by the timing gear an oil pump ruining both. And so as i sit right now my motor is out of the truck once again unable to drive . which in turn will cost thousands of dollars to fix once again.I WOULD NEVER USE HUNTER MACHINE EVER AGAIN.

Hunter Machine did an awesome job on our racecar engine. We needed a quick turnaround, and they exceeded all expectations. They handled all of the red tape and documentation with our sanctioning body (IMCA) to make sure we stayed compliant. Shawn was great to work with. Everyone in the shop was great to work with.

Had an issue with my engine after it was assembled and ran for a little while. Was full of shot blast. Pulled it back apart and brought it back to hunter for them to look over and they did they didnt replace my bearing or gaskets that were ruined from them leaving shot blast in the engine after i paid to have it cleaned. The pistons had damage from smashing shot blast into the head they didnt replace those even tho i bought them new for this rebuild. When i got my engine parts back the second time i pulled all the galley plugs and they were all full of shot blast still. They surfaced my exhaust manifolds and ruined the ball socket on the end so i had to buy new ones of those as well. Had to send my injectors to get cleaned and fixed because of the shot blast in everything. This engine build cost me well over 10k all said and done and i got to do it twice because i trusted they would clean it like i paid for the first time and even after i sent it back it still was full of debris. They were incredibly nice every time i was in there but they told me that the shot blast couldn’t have come from them and that they use glass beads where would it have come from then….. ive only ever seen it come from the machine shop blasting the heads and blocks Lets add a set of 2000 dollar injectors to the list of parts ruined by the machine shop. I would have been better off burning 10k than taking anything here.

Hunter Machine has been around forever and they really know their stuff. Going back to the Bonneville and rocky mountain dragstrip days with Red and Shawn Hale making sure these nitro cars were running perfectly. I’ve always admired the reputation these guys have carried throughout the years. They did not disappoint when I recently came in for a simple cam and lifter upgrade. Shawn was great, he spent the time to educate me a bit before I did the install and after when I had some questions. They truly care about their customers and the work they do.
