I have used them about half a dozen times or more. They have been honest. Prices have gone up a bit but still fair. The guy at the front desk is hit or miss depending on what mood he is. He makes it seem like your a problem when you call. Previous guy was super nice and helpful. If you can deal with him the rest is good.

As a single woman who doesn't happen to have a mechanic in the family, I feel I have found my fallback at J&M. They are honest, reliable, super-courteous, and reasonable. I never felt uncomfortable or pressured, whether sitting in the waiting area or talking to the actual mechanic working on my vehicle, who happened to be the owner, Bobby. When I decided to purchase a car, they were the ones I took it to to look it over for soundness before buying. They gave me such amazing service during the whole process. It now runs better than new. When an electrical issue came up in the process of diagnosing something else, they kept me informed and worked through the problem - it turned out to be minor, not only were they honest they were actually relieved for me!! It's a great blessing to find these guys. I guess that's why they seem to always be busy!

buick encore 2018 idling rough and stalling out on occasion. did some research on the code and found people were getting the entire turbo replaced. these guys found the real problem on the same day I brought in the car. repair was much cheaper than turbo replacement and vehicle has been running smooth as can be with no light for a few weeks now. looks like they know their stuff here and saved us a lot of money. thanks j & m!

I told them there was something wrong with my car but they insisted I just didn’t know how to drive it. They inspected it for like 3 minutes, test drove it for 5 and said I was exaggerating the situation/that the issue didn’t exist. I just got a second opinion elsewhere and they said that there were two things wrong with my car which was causing me to have (life endangering) issues. The reason I didn’t give them one star is because they didn’t charge me for the inspection.

I went to J & M to have my coils replaced. Customer service was not great. I received a voicemail saying that my car was fixed out of the blue and never received a call saying what exactly was wrong with my car and how much it would cost to replair. Luckily I was able to afford the repair when I went to pick it up. He said he would have called me if it was going to be thousands of dollars, but I would have appreciated knowing that my repairs would have cost me $600, because that's certainly not cheap. When I asked what was wrong with it, he told me "coils" and did not explain further. I am not that knowledgeable when it comes to cars so I would have appreciated some further explanation. Can't complain too much because my car is working just fine now and they were able to get the job done in less than 2 days. However I'm not sure I can come back here because they never called to inform me of what was broken nor the cost of repairs.

I just moved to Denton and needed to find a mechanic close by. I stumbled upon J&M Automotive after calling a few others about a valve cover gasket replacement. This shop is very reliable and great on prices. They had my 1999 Toyota Camry up and running in no time. I’m bringing all my cars here from now on.

I have decided to revise my original review. The first time I used this shop they did replace the item at a fair price for the labor however my check engine light continue to be on and I took it in to have it scoped again and it was a whole nother issue but I believe when they replaced the thermostat they either hit or damaged the solenoid and now that shows to be faulty whereas it didn't before the thermostat was changed. I don't believe I will be using their shop again nor recommending it. For some reason I thought this shop would be above reproach

As a single woman, you must be super careful and inquisitive before just willy nilly putting your car into the hands of people who don’t care. This is a mechanic that I know my family member uses and has for many many years. I decided to give them a call this morning to see if I could drop my car off to see about a few issues. I was polite, very straight forward and to the point. Literally one sentence. The minute the man answered the phone my morning got instantaneously negative. Terrible attitude. He was extremely rude, short and spoke as though I was a massive inconvenience. I will never freely give my money to anyone who is rude, ignorant or disrespectful. There are WAY too many options out there.

If I could give this guy a 10 star minus rating I would. Stay as far away from this guy as you can. He doesn’t use contracts, so I guess he thinks he can do or say whatever. Someone that works there recommended this guy. So called for a diagnostic for a check engine light, and couldn’t pass a safety check. He said $85 for the check, so I bring my truck there. Without looking says, it’s just a vacuum hose, and I’ll let you know Monday. Call Monday, and they hadn’t done anything yet. Later I get a call, guy that called said it’s all done, and tells me it’s $395! Uh wait a minute, what happened to telling me what you found doing a diagnostic first and an estimate?! $395 for a vacuum hose? You might let me know first don’t you think? When I went to talk to him about it, he said he’d take $130 off the cost, but looking at my bank account, he didn’t do that either. He doesn’t do paperwork, says he doesn’t need to!

I've used J&M for over 10 years with no issue (however... I'll add that I've never brought them something to diagnose. I've strictly used them when I know what's wrong and tell them what I want done...) until this year. I brought in my son's car to have a clutch job done on it. When we got it back, the speedometer no longer functioned. I called them later that week and let them know that this was the case... they said to just bring it back in for them to check out. I didn't get a chance to bring it in for a couple of months... but after I dropped it off and they inspected it, they said that because they could see that someone had done a front-end job recently (my son and I did this...), they weren't responsible. I let them know that the front-end job was done BEFORE I had them do the clutch job. Didn't matter they said. So, they told me it'd be around $300 to repair. I said "forget it... we'll fix it ourselves"... when I came to pick up, they charged me an $85 diagnostic fee... for what I already knew. Sorry y'all... that's how you lose a 10+ year customer.

Worst ever. Failed to repair water pump, broke a bolt off and did not fix or tell me. Vehicle is currently leaking fluid everywhere. Paid on the high end for what I thought would be quality work. nope.

I learned of this repair shop through my work. We use them for 99% of the repairs to our fleet. I have taken my personal vehicle there a few times as well. They do excellent quality work, the desk gentleman (Jim) is friendly and doesn't hesitate to explain repairs, and the repair charges are more than fair. I highly recommend.

I usually like to work on my car myself, but I trust these guys whenever I can’t complete a job myself. They have replaced my pinion seal on my rear differential, completed replacing my rear brake calipers, and pulled broken spark plugs out of my engine. When I brought my car in for the brake replacement, they even replaced my pinion seal a second time with a part from Ford (they had used a different brand the first time that didn’t seat quite right in the housing and was still leaking). They warrantied the work with no additional charge! Jim has always been kind and informative with me when giving updates. They may not be cheap, but the prices are reasonable. You are definitely paying for quality work. I’ll continue bringing my car to J&M for any work I need done in the future.
