Jim is a straight up guy who knows all the ins and outs of the Volvo platforms. And not just maintenance and service but also valuable insight into the aftermarket speed parts for Volvo. I have known Jim for forty one years and he definitely knows his cars regardless of year, make or model. I asked him to do a "buyers check" on my '95 Jeep Cherokee and he was very thorough, showed me the things requiring attention, explained everything well and eased my mind considerably on my purchase. I look forward to his working on it as needed, knowing we will be in good hands. Trust me when I say you would be hard pressed to find a more reliable, honest or knowledgeable mechanic in the Tacoma area.

First off, I never write reviews… So why start now? I am moving out of state for a new job, and I won't be in Washington to spread the word in person about Jim at James Auto Works Volvo Repair. I've always been a Toyota, Honda, and Subaru guy. So when my girlfriend wanted a pre-owned Volvo, I was a little hesitant. Jim was our go-to mechanic to inspect a few models we were considering. He was upfront about what kind of repairs we would be looking at. We finally landed on a pre-owned V70. She was a pretty solid car when we purchased her, but we still had Jim get her up to pristine condition. One of the things I appreciate and respect about Jim is the fact that he will never push anything on you. He explains things clearly and tells you what needs to be addressed soon, what can wait and what you can keep an eye on for repairs down the road. I hold two professional people to very high standards: our animal's vet and our car's mechanic. I can say without a doubt Jim has met and exceeded my expectations as our mechanic. Own a Volvo? Take it to see Jim.

Jim is an excellent and patient craftsman in the art of Volvo Repair. The shop is clean and well organized and the waiting area is comfortable for a wait if needed. He seems to have a semi-encyclopedic memory of past repairs which is a really valuable resource when trying to pin down complex or elusive phenomena that these volvo seem to have from time to time. James Autoworks Volvo. The most straightforward honest mechanic you will ever find. He has repaired my Volvo a couple of times and even performed a diagnosis free of charge because my car was not broken. Anyone else would have charged $100, $200 or more just to find that the gas cap was not out in properly. I wish he repaired other brands of cars.

I took my 2004 Volvo S60 in to get repaired. Jim was extremely personable and did a great job fixing the car. I have waited a week prior to writing this review so that I can give a more detailed review. Jim got my car in extremely quick and gave me a great price. I believe that he was honest and I that he gave me clear details of what needed to be done and clear prices. He informed me that it would be cheaper to do certain projects together. He did a great job and I would highly recommend him to my family and friends. My car runs and drives great!!! For me it was better to call than to fill out the online form.

Excellent job on a valve replacement in my 850 wagon. Runs like a new car after repair was completed last August and just passed 200,000 miles this week. We had to wait for parts availability for a while last year, but it was worth the wait and I've been very happy with the repairs. Had my 2004 Volvo S60 looked at by Jim on more than one occasion. He is amazing in many ways! I’m a broke college student so money is not something I always have readily available, and not only does he take that into account when telling me I need to get new parts, but he also takes great detail in explaining on how I can fix something on my own (or my boyfriend) rather than paying 300+ for labor at a dealership. He is kind, knowledgeable, and always willing to give the biggest helping hand. He recommends best cost effective ways in fixing my car, and it really shows how experienced he is in his explanations. 10/10 recommend Jim for life!!

I can’t recommend James Auto Works enough! I brought in my 2001 Volvo XC70, which I honestly thought I’d have to abandon or donate because it needed so many repairs. Other shops had quoted me prices so high that fixing it didn’t seem worth it. Jim not only took on the challenge but managed to bring my car back to perfect running condition, for about half of what I was quoted elsewhere. The quality of the work is outstanding, and I feel like I have a brand-new car again. If you’re looking for an honest, skilled, and reasonably priced mechanic who truly cares about both the car and the customer, this is the place to go. Took my Volvo XC90 here because Valvoline didn’t know how to reset my “Needs Maintenance” light after an oil change as well as my Tire Pressure light after filling my tire. Found my go-to mechanic! Just took my car to Jim at James Auto Works for the first time and I’m already planning to come back and am telling all my friends. This guy is like the reliable neighbor you can actually talk to - super friendly and down to earth. His shop is very clean and well-kept, which was a good first impression. But what really sold me was how honest and straightforward he was about everything. He walked me through what was going on with my car and didn’t try to push any extra services I didn’t need. His prices were fair as well. Jim’s just one of those people you feel comfortable dealing with right away. Professional but personable, you know? Really glad I found this place.
