Just called them to see if they can replace my alternator. They quoted me $750, and said $200 of that was labor. So then I asked if I could purchase the part elsewhere, and see if they could install the part. They said yes they would do it for the $200 labor cost and that I just need to call them back and schedule the appointment. So I purchase the part at Autozone for $210 (+$40 after core charge) and they then state they won't do it. What kind of service is that? Terrible if you ask me. I'd avoid this place. They obviously up-charge quite a bit on parts - in this case $550 vs $210 ($340 up-charge - they probably get it even cheaper since they are a business). That's pretty shady to me. Believe the other low star reviews about service on this place. I'm guessing the good reviews are by people who just don't do their homework.

Every time we go to Lloyd & Wilson we get the best customer service. They are kind, knowledgeable, helpful and are always up front with what needs to be done, what can be done and what can wait—if that’s the case. We appreciate that they take the time to talk to us when we have questions and further explain anything if need be. We have been going to Lloyd and Wilson for all our car needs for over 5 years and are happy to recommend them to anyone.

I'm a shade tree mechanic who got into a jam after replacing the cylinder head on my beater-commuter Honda, I went in for a valve lash adjustment and they found a larger problem that I caused when doing my cylinder head replacement. They explained the situation extremely well to me, discussed the options, and let me know the probable consequences based on how I decided to proceed. They communicated every step of the way, and cleaned up my mess as best they could. I haven't gotten the car back yet but I'm sure I'll be happy with the repair based on what I've been told. You can't judge an auto-shop based on anything but the quality of service and communication, having worked on cars myself a little bit, there aren't always silver-bullet answers to every problem or question, sometimes it's just a risk vs reward analysis. The great thing about Lloyd's is that you get an analysis you can trust and they'll explain it in layman's terms, or more advanced terms if you're so inclined. Great shop, great prices, no huge markup on parts, knowledgeable, and polite staff, 5 stars and I won't be going to any other garage ever again.

I had the oil changed and a few things checked . I had been going to D&D automotive downtown on Pacific Ave for about 20 years- and then Bob retired of all things! 3 of my doctors have retired and then my auto mechanic! I'm hoping my vet sticks with me. Everything went well with this "New for me place". I would give them a 5 star but I want at least another visit or 2.

Bob did a pre purchase car inspection on an old van I was looking into converting into my home! Too many issues with it so I took it back but I felt like I completely understood what was wrong with it even though I don’t know as much as I’d like to about the van. Didn’t even charge me the inspection because the van would cost more to fix than it would to buy. It’s really nice to go to the mechanic and actually feel like your mechanic is looking out for you instead of feeling like you need to take it all with a grain of salt. Not to mention he’s been doing it since he was 14. Super friendly people and I’ll absolutely go back.

Asked them to inspect and advise on my noisy rear end. I assumed it needed to be rebuilt when I made the appointment. 15 mins later calling and telling me the rear end is shot and cannot be replaced. The truck is not worth fixing and I should sell it. When I asked other mechanics, they asked what was wrong with the rear end and this guy could not answer because he didn’t bother to remove the inspection cover and inspect the failed parts( which is what I wanted in the first place) the whole time was condescending and taking to me as if I’m a fool ad making himself look incompetent in my eyes and the other mechanics I was taking to. I found this Very suspicious behavior form a shop. I was able to get the job done for less than $2400. Total rebuild w warranty By a reputable shop in town.

When I brought my car in I explained that a particular fuse kept blowing and that I had it replaced multiple times prior, even disconnecting all third party accessories to narrow down the problem. Knowing that I already had the fuse replaced and that wasn't the problem, I expected more than the exact same temporary repair when they attempted to fix it. Sadly, they tried exactly what I explained had already been done twice before. I called them and left a message within one day of their repair failing and explained that the fuse blew once again. I left them a message and a mechanic tried to text me instead of calling the following day. The conversation was impossible to follow and unprofessional to begin with, who texts a customer instead of calling them?! When he finally did call he did not listen and continued to shut me down when I attempted to speak -- I felt very small to say the least. I paid $500+ for other repairs that I'm not even sure my car needed, and when I asked for a $60 refund on what they couldn't fix they refused. Given that I explained how the fuse would continue to blow and they chose to ignore me to do exactly what I asked them not to do, made me feel very taken advantage of. They eventually offered to look at it again after weeks of runaround and multiple emails basically stating that a temporary fix was still a fix, even if it lasts less than a day. I'm not sure you want that kind of dishonesty and disrespect in your mechanic, but I definitely don't. I've recognized that I'll probably just have to eat the charge of something they didn't fix, but hopefully someone else reads this and decides to find a more honest location better worth their time and money.

Okay, check how often i leave reviews (rarely) I am blown away by this place is a god send. I just had a buyers inspection for a car I was interested in buying. They were HONEST with me and got in touch with me a few minutes after I had gone to a nearby coffee place (as the inspection was supposed to take approximately an hour.). They told me the car was not safe and because they figured that out (and explained the details to me so thoroughly) So quickly they didn’t even charge me anything. Kyle took the time to show me on my google maps the safest route back to the car lot as the car was so unsafe to drive. They even got me in touch with a regular customer who was selling a car that met my needs. They said since they have been inspecting that car for years they knew it was safe and wouldn’t even encourage me to bring that particular car in for a buyer’s inspection as they already know how well it runs. That is TWO instances they could have charged me and didn’t. These people are legit ethical and knowledgeable. I am so grateful and will drive all the way here (I live nearly two hours away) for my future car needs as I trust these folks now so much. Amber was also a saint and not only squeezed me in last second but was very understanding that i was behind schedule and explained thoroughly ways to drop off keys and such for the future to make my timing convenient after work and living far away. This is the place to go!!!!!

As a first time car owner new to Tacoma it was intimidating trying to find an auto shop to take my car to. The staff at Lloyd and Wilson made the experience so easy and they have continued to be incredibly honest, compassionate, and helpful! Highly recommend, especially to anyone new to car knowledge/jargon in general.

Probably the last honest mechanic on the planet. He only does what is necessary and is far more reasonably priced compared to others who ripped us off for the same work that failed within a year. His work is solid tho because he uses good parts, not cheap stuff from AutoZone. Don't take your car anywhere else. If I moved hours away I'd still bring my car here.

Trust worthy and they do quality work in a timely manner. Make sure you bring your checkbook or debit card. Because there is an additional charge using a credit card. Which unfortunately, they don't tell you until time of payment. It would be nice if they told you this when you received your estimate and before scheduling work to be done.

If you’re looking for a mechanic and hate being oversold or worry about being taken advantage of, this is the place. Two specific visits stand out for me. First, when I had my old truck there was plenty wrong with it but I didn’t have the budget to fix it all. When I told them this, they had no problem analyzing and quoting every issue even though they knew I wouldn’t do all of the work. The service tech explained everything that was wrong and how serious it was. He told me what he would fix immediately and on about 75% of it he said, “I’ll fix this for you if you want but you don’t need it right now.” Second, I was leaving town on a roadtrip and my tire light came on. I called Lloyd & Wilson with about 5 minutes notice. They told me to pull right up. Someone came out immediately and checked every tire for me, adding air when needed. It gave me peace of mind for trip and they refused to accept any payment for it. Stop looking for a mechanic and come here. People don’t do service like this anymore.

I was very surprised when the time length for the repair doubled. After my car was done, I was even more surprised to hear there’s a 3% charge to use a credit card. This feels like information that should have been relayed in advance of agreeing for the work to be performed. Now I have to pay $105 in fees for a $3500 job. Really will be thinking twice before bringing my car back here for service.

These guys really helped me out this weekend! I live in Poulsbo and my wife was having contractions and going to be in labor. But the car was breaking down and we made it to St. Joe's and dropped it off to Lloyd and Wilson. They were able to put me in two weeks early given our emergency situation and help us out fast. The issue was quickly diagnosed and fixed. They really know their stuff and it was a much better price than I expected! I highly recommend this shop. They saved us big time!

My alternator went out on my car and I was panicking because it's my work vehicle. I brought it over for an inspection and they quoted me about two days. Imagine my surprise when they called less than 24 hours later saying it was ready for pick up! The staff is friendly, and they communicated everything to me, even going through what any additional charges might apply based on the repair. This will definitely be my go-to shop from now on!

I have been coming to Lloyd and Wilson for years. They have seen me through two cars, a few repairs, and a great many oil changes. They are responsive, trustworthy, and consistent. Their prices are reasonable, and they have never tried to snag me for unnecessary work or additional charges.

Searching for used cars remotely is tough. I drove up 2 hours from Portland to look at a local used car and sent it to Lloyd & Wilson for a pre-purchase inspection. WOW what an operation! From the first call to the friendly front desk person at 7:30 in the morning, to the final goodbyes, this was by far the best experience I've had at a garage. Ever. Fair prices, attentive, and they knew EVERYTHING about my car: what to look out for, goods and bads from that year, etc. I was given very thorough, knowledgeable, and truly forensic service in inspecting this car. Thank you much. I wish you were in Portland, I would bring my car to you every time. And probably stop by to say hi too. Bringing your car to any other garage in Tacoma would be huge mistake. Lloyd for Llyfe! Y'all rock! Thanks for the inspection and converstation!

I came in looking to replace a wheel hub on on Fiat 500 secondary to it being stripped when my tires were aligned at another business. Instead of paying over $500 to have the hub replaced, Kyle cut a new bolt I had purchased and threaded the bolt perfectly. The process took less than 10 minutes and his charge - FREE!. Having just moved into the area, I was looking for a mechanic. I found one. Thanks Kyle and Lloyd & Wilson.

I have been here 2X. The first time was when my children had purchased a used car for me as a gift. It was purchased w/o an independent inspection so unfortunately there were significant problems the used car dealership failed to mention but simply put a bandage on to keep it running for a couple of weeks. The car had smoke coming from it and one that was not unusual for this particular make and model. After taking it to the dealership of origin and getting ripped off I contacted one a family member had used before as they also had a foreign car and said they did good work for their car. I thought I'd try them. During the initial phone call the owner seemed to know a lot about my car as he was explaining to me what my problem sounded like and how he might get go about fixing the problem. I trusted he was knowledgeable and pretty confident as to the problem so I had it delivered to them and they were surprised I was even able to drive the car as the condition was quite serious. He told me that if it wasn't too bad they could repair it but if it was so to the point that it wasn't repairable that that could also be the case. However I decided to allow them to check it out and possibly make the repairs. I got a call the following week as stated and was told I could come pick up my car. I picked up the car and both issues were solved. The second issue has 2 parts so I look forward to waiting til next spring to make those repairs that has nothing to do with the performance of the car. It's been a good 7 minute months and my car has not smoked or had any other problems w regard to them previously repairing it. I recently contacted them for help and they were kind enough to assist me without an appointment . Kyle told me to stop by and he'd take a quick look and he found the issue quickly. They are so knowledgeable concerning foreign cars and common problems to the particular make and models of those cars. I believe truly that I have found the right mechanic for my car that I will be bringing mine and my friends to. It is so very hard to find a good and honest mechanic today who you can TRUST. I trust this mechanic with my car and a very special thanks to Kyle for saving the day in my emergency and crucial time of need 🤗. I have been researching a lot about my car and he gave me valuable insight that I had not yet been able to discover even on the forums and speaking w specialized techs of such makes and models. This family business is one I feel comfortable recommending to both friends and family. Also I like to endorse good family businesses to continue to thrive as we all should help one another. It has been my experience that family businesses seem to actually care about not just making the money, but treating you fairly and keeping you safe on the road, as well as earning your TRUST. You guys are TRULY AMAZING 😍!!! Thank you again ..see you this next spring! 🤗
