Review: A Frustrating Experience with Maaco - Sam Rittenberg My experience with Maaco has been defined by continuous delays, lack of communication, and unprofessional conduct, leaving me frustrated and disappointed throughout the process. Key Events: April 30 - June 24: I paid for parts on April 30 and expected timely service. However, the shop received the wrong parts, causing significant delays. During this time, I had to repeatedly contact James for updates, only to be met with vague responses. Promises to call back were not kept, and despite multiple requests, I was unable to escalate the issue to management. James frequently said he was "just about to call" or "check on the parts," but little progress was made. I eventually requested to cancel the repairs and get my money back, which was met with further complications. August 19: After deciding to retract my request for repairs and get a refund, James initially claimed the shop was too busy to process it promptly. Later, when I called back with a revised request to pay only for the work done, James became increasingly agitated, eventually yelling at me over the phone and hanging up. He then called back 15 minutes later with a new quote, but the situation remained unnecessarily hostile. When I arrived to pick up my refund, Fred, the store owner, apologized for the lack of communication and was unaware of the issues I had faced. Despite this, I was told they had lost my bull bar, adding to my frustration. September 5: I contacted James to retrieve my bull bar and was told no one was at the shop to assist me. Despite explaining my limited availability, James refused to make any accommodations, claiming the bull bar was too heavy for him to move alone. I offered to help, but he angrily hung up. When I arrived, I found the bull bar carelessly thrown in the parking lot, visibly damaged with dents and scratches. When I asked for assistance in loading it into my truck, James responded with profanity and aggressive behavior, getting in my face and making me feel threatened. He forcefully placed the bull bar in my truck and informed me that the bolts were lost. When I asked for the bolt sizes, his dismissive response was to buy replacements at Ace Hardware without offering specifics. Issues: 1. Lack of Communication: Throughout the process, I had to initiate almost all contact. Updates on the parts, repairs, or refund were not provided unless I called, and even then, responses were vague and unhelpful. 2. Incorrect Parts and Delays: Despite paying promptly, the shop received the wrong parts, causing significant delays. There was no sense of urgency in addressing the issue, and James’ repeated promises to check on the parts were rarely followed through. 3. Failure to Escalate Problems to Management: Despite multiple requests for James’ supervisor’s contact information, I was consistently met with resistance. When I finally spoke to Fred, the owner, it became clear that he was unaware of the problems I had faced, as James never communicated them. 4. Negligence in Handling Property: My bull bar was lost and later returned damaged, which shows a lack of care in handling customer property. 5. Aggressive and Threatening Behavior: James' behavior on multiple occasions was unprofessional and hostile. His verbal abuse and aggressive attitude, especially when I picked up the bull bar, made the situation feel unsafe and uncomfortable. Conclusion: The delays, lack of transparency, and hostile customer service made this experience extremely frustrating and costly. The unprofessional behavior and poor handling of my property further diminished my trust in the company. I would not recommend Maaco, as they failed to deliver on both repairs and basic customer service. Rating: 1/5 -Full report will be submitted on Better Business Bureau. - Audio of James using prophane language and verbally assaulting me caught on recorder.

This Maaco office went well above and beyond to repaint my wife’s 2013 Toyota Rav 4 and make it look brand new! I would highly recommend the West Ashley group for any repair work

They did some good work for me in a timely manner. I had it inspected and the replacement part ordered. Once delivered it was installed and returned to me next day.

Horrible customer service all the way around. James in the office is rude and disrespectful. I dropped my car off on Sept 11 and didn’t get my car back until October 11. They initially said it would take 3 days. James actually told me “you calling everyday won’t get your car done any quicker. This is my car and he was not providing any updates or calls regarding my car. When I say lackluster and just bad. It’s a shame. My car sat from Sept 11 until September 16 with nothing being done. He actually hung up on me because he said I pissed him off. Had my lawyer call and he had the audacity to say I was rude. Sir you hung up on me and got loud and irate. Make it make sense. I will never take my car there nor recommend anyone there. Then insult to injury. My bumper is a different color than my car. The color code of the bumper is under the bumper. How did you get that wrong. I now have to get my car repainted because of none professional repair. I am livid and will be perusing legal actions

The ad was a loss leader. To get factory paint and clear coat on top I had to pay $3,500 MORE! They did a good job on the painting though. Just over priced!!!

My Toyota Rav4 was in pretty bad conditions. Painting for the same color was the best decision. Company did really good job. I’m really happy.

I cannot recommend this place for paint work. I had some body work done here and it was done pretty well. However, the paint job, specifically the paint prep, has caused me more problems than good. I have provided photos, but there is paint on my car tires, window shield and rubber lining, car frame, undercarriage, wheel wells, and inside the cabin. On the front of the vehicle they tried to clean up the paint but ended up getting black paint on the new paint coat on the car. Also I’ve had my car back for few weeks now and there are multiple flakes and chips already in the paint. The staff is friendly. The bodywork was a good 4 out of 5. But the paint job gets a 0 out of 5 rating, thus the overall 2 out of 4 rating I gave. I’ve had vehicles painted in the past at a Maaco in North Carolina and the paint jobs were good. I have two other vehicles I want to get painted but i will not have them painted here.

I’m am very pleased and satisfied with the body work and paint job I received from Maaco in Charleston, South Carolina (West Ashley). I told them I wanted it to look like it just rolled off the showroom floor. When I picked it up, it looked just like that. I’ve had so many compliments already from friends and strangers about how great my vehicle (2001 Ford Excursion) looks.

If I could give this company and this peticular address a 0 I would..they gave me back my truck after 14 days when they said 5 to 7 then they said it will be done this week one week later it's finally in line to get painted. few days later it's ready. Well there was dirt inside my paint..when they grinded down my roof they hit my trim and took a piece of the top of my windshield which they also missed some primer probably because they knew they messed up..they left new scratches all over my truck how I know which they denied is once it hits metals it usual rusts in a few days, these scratches had not rust or completely rust and I immediately saw them.. two of the workers admitted to what it was and did not care one bit. Cherry on top they left the inside of my truck covered in gray dust.currently filing small claims court and insurance claim, police report. Following up everyday to shut this business down. If you want to help contact my email and we can make sure.

Picked up my car yesterday. Happy with the work done. Outside even looked washed. HOWEVER, every single inch of the entire interior of my car was covered with a massive layer of dust and debris as if they had sanded down every car in the shop with all of my windows and doors open. I now have to pay to have my car detailed. I'd love to send you pictures. Also, not thrilled with the more than $35 in credit card fees to pay for the work! Passing on credit card fees to customers should have been mentioned with the estimate, not when I'm dropping my car and handing over my card to make my deposit. MAACO's estimate was 1/3 of the price of the four estimates I obtained for the exact same work, but after this experience I'm not sure choosing the least expensive price was the best choice.

I knew she had potential, just a little TLC! Honestly I was not expecting too much for my budget, but I was blown away with how beautiful this color turned out! They did a great job, customer service was friendly, James even ordered the part I needed to attach the front fender! Highly recommend this location at Maaco in West Ashley After/Before photos:

I can not recommend MAACO enough. The team was caring, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. Lakesha took the time to explain everything to me and was extremely patient with all my questions. The customer service was outstanding, every time I called in and had questions the entire staff was kind and helped me right away. They painted and replaced the front end of my damaged car and fixed my hood, and it looks brand new! The work was done quickly without sacrificing quality. I couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. I highly recommend MAACO for anyone looking for professional and speedy auto body repair. They certainly went above and beyond and exceeded my expectations.

They did an amazing job repainting my 19-year-old car and repairing some light rust damage! It looks brand new! And they kindly waited for me a bit past closing time when I was stuck in traffic trying to get there, I really appreciated that kindness.

So first, I’m very happy with how my truck turned out. I had received quotes between 14k and 20k from other local body shops just to do some rust repair on the roof and to repaint the grill. James quoted me a price less than 4k for fixing everything and spraying the whole truck. James also gave me a super accurate estimate on how long it would take so no surprises there. James was friendly and helpful throughout the whole process. There were some spots where paint got under the tape job but I went in knowing that could happen. I’ve attached some photos, it is all very minor, and I can clean that up myself. No runs, orange peel, or anything else that I can see wrong. I wouldn’t hesitate to take in another vehicle or to recommend this shop to someone else. It’s a 22 year old truck but it now looks brand new so I’m very happy.
