Scott Marshall has serviced my VW Jetta at least twice now in the past six months. Scott has been incredibly honest, transparent, and timely in his repairs. I appreciate the estimates he is able to provide and he has definitely saved me several hundred dollars compared to other local shops/dealerships. Highly recommend giving Scott and Marshall Tire and Auto a chance to earn your business.

I have a rental fleet of 10 cars, plus my personal vehicles. The workmanship is amazing. They do things right, and get it right every time! I appreciate the incredible value, I receive every time I visit. They are super friendly, call back when they say, and complete work promptly. Marshall Tire is a hidden treasure right in the heart of Charlottesville!!! You will not be disappointed.

I took my vehicle in to Marshall's for a sound it was making that had me worried. I had a month left on my inspection and told him to inspect it also. He calls me and says it needs new brakes, rotors, and upper and lower ball joints on both sides. He said he could do it for $2300.00. I immediately said no because I could not afford that. I called around to 3 other places for a quote on the same work and the highest was at $1300.00. The other 2 were close to $900. Less than half the price of Marshall"s. I ended up getting the parts from Advance for $300.00, watching a few you tube videos, and doing the work myself and it took me 4 hours. I don't have a shop with all the tools at my disposal and I'm positive it wouldn't have taken them more than two hours. That's $1000 dollars an hour to work on a car. Simply put, OUTRAGEOUS! And the rotors were fine. But my point is they never even tried to figure out what the noise was which I am now having to take to another shop for diagnostics, that will be FREE, no charge until I give them the go ahead to work on my vehicle. #1 VERY EXPENSIVE #2 Didn't do anything I asked them to #3 Were not truthful about the rotors

Scott's service was quick and affordable. Fixed my tire in a timely manner and without any hassle at all. Edit: my tire went flat again and there was a small hole. Scott fixed it at no extra charge - I appreciate him for understanding my situation.

I went to this mechanic to change my front brakes. The mechanic wanted to change both the front and rear brakes and rotors for almost $1000! He said that the rear brakes needed service because the pads were low and the rotors were rusted. I only had the front brakes and rotors changed for about $490 which seems much above market rate. I inspected the mechanics work and found that he didn't even change the brake clips (see picture). Honestly, this is really poor quality work for a brake job. The brakepads come with free clips and it only takes a couple seconds to pull the old clips off and put the new clips on. Brake pad manufacturers included these with their brake pads because its important for the brake to function correctly. The manufacturers would love to save 20 cents if these clips were not important. If the mechanic skipped something so easy, it makes me wonder if he messed something up. 2 days later, I changed my own rear brake pads (For $35 in parts). I found that the rear rotors were within spec. They had rust but it was an entirely normal amount of rust because rotors normally get rust the second they touch water. The pads made contact with the rotors no problem. This makes me think his suggestion that the rotors were bad was to get more money out of me.

I went to renew my car's state inspection and my car failed the state inspection because of the front windshield wipers. I opted to fix the wipers myself and come back to the shop to get re-inspected. The mechanic took the time to explain how my wiper was in poor shape and where to look for tears, which was very kind. I was able to come back same day (within the hour) and get re-inspected. It was a very easy experience and I recommend this business for being helpful outside of the normal expectations and respectful towards their customers.

I was irresponsible and didn't pay attention, found myself past due for a safety inspection -- my usual go-to shops couldn't squeeze me in for another two weeks or longer...I called Marshalls per a friend's recommendation and they were able to squeeze me in within just a few days! I wasn't able to bring my car in until late morning but they still had it ready to go in roughly an hour despite seeming quite busy. Super friendly service, no hassle whatsoever -- I'll definitely be going back!

I was not going to bother writing a review, but considering the response to the last review... I don't think it's a nationality thing, but something fishy is going on here. I have had some basic maintenance done here for a couple years without a problem. Oil changes, inspections, etc. without any problem. But I had my car inspected here this year, and it was failed due to my rear brake pads and rotors. I was quoted about $500 for getting it to pass. I brought my car to be inspected elsewhere since I had been told that they were in good condition a couple months prior when I was getting a general inspection at the dealership. The place I brought it for inspection said "I don't know what they were trying to pull here, but nothing on your car is rejectable". They then brought me to the car and showed me how my rotors and pads measured up to the specifications for inspection. Regarding the last review response, if the shop would like to report this to the state police to verify that my car is actually in good condition and penalize the people who put an inspection sticker on if it's not, they are more than free to do so. I will retract this review if that's the case. I don't want to be driving around in an unsafe car either. But I think it's more likely that someone working here is not passing inspections so that they can get some extra money from doing unnecessary 'repairs'. If that's the case, then they're just writing threats on reviews to try to make it look like some 'less scrupulous' place allowed the car to pass inspection. So, even though it's convenient, maybe get a second opinion if they say your car needs repairs.

I stopped by without an appointment to have an inspection for a friends car. Scott immediately greeted me upon entering the shop and asked how could he help. He told me it would be later in the day but would be glad to do the inspection. I left the vehicle there and he said he'd call me as soon as it was done. It was done hours before he said it would be and was so friendly and nice to deal with. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Caught a flat tire near Marshall Tire and Auto, was able to drop it off minutes later and have it fixed before my lunch break! So friendly, yet professional with very honest prices. Thank you so much for your care!

I went to Marshall Tire and Auto for my inspection 3 years in a row. The first year it was something minor <100 that I needed to fix. Last year they failed me for wipers...ok 30 dollar fix. This year, they failed me for brakes and rotors before trying to charge me >1000 for the fix. I asked for the measurements of each pad before being told me, "well they are small enough to not pass inspection and they need to be fixed." I declined to have them fix it. I looked at the brakes and rotors and didn't notice them needing to be fixed. So, I took my vehicle to another shop I trust to do the work. Well, they were only halfway through the life of the parts and passed inspection at the other place. The lowest pad was 5/32 with 2/32 being the VA inspection minimum reading. I went to Marshall Tire and Auto, because it is close to my office and they had an opening when I needed it done versus the other places I have used. This place is fine if you come in for something that you know needs fixing (oil change, tires, etc.), but lying on an inspection is untrustworthy and I'll take my business elsewhere for life. Read reviews below of the exact same things happening year after year. Look up other places with higher ratings.

Owner/manager unfortunately isn’t a nice person. If you read through his lowest reviews, the unkind responses he gives to customers who had bad experiences is proof he is not a great business owner/manager. He lacks customer service skills and puts in little to no effort to bring those customers back to make it right. Instead he is very defensive and adds more fuel to the fire. This only leads to people going around telling others to not go here for service, so I don’t understand why he does that.

Worst person ever I met. Yes, that's Scott. I took my car for windshield wiper problem. I told him that the motor is not working. After 3 hours he sent me a message that it will take $550+ for motor replacement. I found it too much and asked him to take my car back and will go another shop for second opinion. He then charge me $95 for windshield wipe inspection! He told me that it took 1 hour for inspection!!! Can you believe it? They are just fraud, while I said him earlier that my wipe motor is bad. Imagine the the situation, I had to pay $95 just for doing nothing. Never recommend. Worst Business person. Reply to the comment: I didn't want a free service. I already paid you. My concern is how come wiper checking took you 1 hour of investigation? Did you use microscope to do so, nonsense. This is surely a lie and made a false hour by yourself. On the other hand, if it actually took 1 hour to check the wiper, then think how inefficient you are! You are just a learner and don't deserve to run a shop. Close it. Period.

Immature and hilariously cruel owner, throws namecalling tantrums if people park near his business and seemingly calls the towing company more often than his mother. Take your business elsewhere.

Don't let the past negatives steer you away from this shop. Scott is the hardest working guy I have ever met. Honest and affordable and always polite and friendly. I live in the neighborhood and have had all of my cars worked on by him - never an issue. Learned from him that he had a more than dishonest ex business partner - thus the negatives. Scott is all hands on and reliable. Give him a chance and you will not be disappointed.

Based on my experience and a clear pattern of other reviewers, it seems like this place is a scam shop. Despite having new brakes installed less than two years ago and roughly 2k miles put on them, the owner insisted both the front and back pads and rotors needed to be fully replaced for the state inspection. But the good news was that he'd be happy to do it same day for over $1,200 (sarcasm). He also failed to fix two other simple issues after two visits. But he certainly didn't fail to charge for the service! I strongly recommend you to find another shop.

I want to support this local shop but they are just not reliable. I.paid for a repair over 2 weeks ago and it still hasn't been done right. Every time I bring it back, something goes wrong and I have to come back the next day, or even later. Just today they discovered they had been delivered the wrong part so I have to wait at least 2 more days for the repair. The owner and only mechanic is never there in the afternoon.

Had 3 separate encounters here. Had a state inspection done: no issues Had a random electrical problem, he couldnt fix it but didnt charge me for looking at it (great, earned my trust). Next, I took a car for a simple job, replacing a leaking valve cover gasket on both sides, I even provided them with a kit including a new gasket. (i was going to do it myself but this was during a week when temps were in the teens and i needed it done quick, as i dont have a garage to work in) He returned the car after charging me 400$. and it was still leaking a large amount of oil. I ended up doing the job myself the next day (fluke warm day) and found that he had never changed the gaskets. He washed off the oil from the engine and gave the keys back...thats it. I have never had someone lie about a service before. The gasket that was still in the engine was extremely brittle and old (and a different color from the one i provided, which they said they used). He was very difficult to get on the phone and im pretty sure was screening my calls. Finally I got them on the phone and when confronted, he said it was actually his cousin who did the job and not him. However he asked if he could call back and then continued to screen further calls. Now I need to dispute on my credit card. I would never trust this shop to do any work ever again. maybe it was his cousin...but it makes no difference to me, this shop flat out stole my money and did nothing...also they kept the parts i provided so im out 25$ on top of the credit card dispute.
