I recently had a very disappointing experience using a Groupon at Mr. Tire Auto Service on North Duke Street in Durham, North Carolina. I purchased a Groupon that clearly advertised a synthetic oil change for $40 and went in expecting that the cost was fully covered as I had made the compete purchase online. However, once I arrived, the man behind the counter informed me that the Groupon only covered a portion of the service and that I would need to pay an additional $100 out of pocket. Since the Groupon purchase was final and non-refundable, I felt stuck and had no choice but to pay the extra amount. Then to add inbuilt to injury, after my service was finished and the mechanic brought my car to the front, he looked directly at me as I stood waiting at the register to finish paying, then handed everything—keys, paperwork, etc.—to the register that I was clearly not at with a big smile on his face knowing I was the person he had just serviced. It was dismissive and uncomfortable. This whole experience felt misleading and disrespectful, and now I’m left wondering who’s at fault—Groupon for false advertising, or Mr. Tire for not honoring what was promoted. Either way, I feel taken advantage of and wanted to make others aware.

I scheduled a 9:00 am appointment with Mr tire for an alignment and decided to go ahead and allow them to do my oil change. My car didn't get started on until about 10 am. The African American guy who worked the front desk charged me 150.00 dollars for an oil change and said it was because my car takes synthetic oil. I didn't understand, as an oil change for my car has NEVER cost that much. I felt that was was being taken advantage of as most women are when they go to a mechanic shop alone. Later that morning, I had a little bit of a cough. I noticed the same guy at the desk staring at me while helping an elderly man. I ignored him. A few moments later he walked up to me and said " You can't be coughing, people still have COVID ". I replied, I don't have COVID. He stated that he was just playing but this guy didn't know me from a can of paint nor was i in a joking mood as he was charging me 150 for an oil change. Im more than likely going to call corporate.

Charged me a diagnostic fee to misdiagnos the problem. Luckily, they were incapable of doing the repair they claimed my vehicle needed, so I ended up at a shop that actually figured out the problem, which was a significantly cheaper repair. If a shop is unable to do a proper diagnosis, they should admit it.

Appointments are meaningless here. Why would you let me schedule an appointment for 4 tires, an alignment, and inspection if you had no intention of getting the tires you let me pick on the website to have installed? Why would you wait until I come in for my appointment that I scheduled my day around to tell me you hadn't ordered the tires and it'd be a week before you got them? I'm so confused by how that makes any sense at all. Don't offer an appointment and let me pick the specific tires I want if you have no intention of using them. Why does your website even let me schedule an appointment to put tires on my car if they aren't going to make sure the tires are even available? What a waste of everyone's time!

I like getting all my vehicle Oil changes done there. The tire rotation wasn't done because they said i need tires however i went to another tire place just to get 2nd opinion he said tread was still good it could be done. I felt tech just didn't want to do it. Tire prices was pricey.

This particular Mr. Location might be a hidden gem for you if you're seeking maintenance or tires. They are easy to work with and really try to find a solution that's going to work for your wallet and your car's needs. I've been around to a few different places in Durham for tires, oil changes, etc, and this place has earned my loyalty. Now if you're not a person that likes franchises, I get it, but the place is staffed with your fellow hard working Durhamites. I never once felt like I was dealing with a corporate mechanism. There were some suggestions about what to do if my vehicle next, but no pushy up selling. I'll typically list criticism of a place in a review if I have any. Here I really don't. Whether or not Mr. Tire is the choice for you will depends on what you're looking for with service. For most of my life I haven't been made out of money, but I'm at a point now where I can choose service over pure cost. Mr Tire is very reasonable on service prices. They are much cheaper than most franchises. That being said, I've shopped around, you can find slightly cheaper service and cheaper tires (less than a $10 difference in any thing that I saw). However in terms of quality for price, I don't think you can beat these guys. When you get a car repair you want to make sure you're not going to need another one anytime soon, and I felt like these guys did excellent work.

I come here every time I need an oil change. Therefore you all have a chance to check every visit for other car needs. I don't understand why my tires are worn down when they should have been rotated at every oil change. Also I now need brake pads and rotors in the back when I should only need pads if you were checking at every oil change. I'm very dissatisfied about my service here!

Went in today for state inspection and oil change. I had been using this station for several years. I was told last year that I would probably need tires to pass inspection this year. About 6 months ago I got 4 "new" used tires. They had plenty of tread..more than what I had previously for sure. The inspector used this little hand held gauge to check the tread and said that one tire failed. He kept manipulating the inner caliber reader and wasn't able to show me exactly where mine was. He kept saying it was less than 3…but didn't say what 3 meant. Plus he kept tilting the reader rather than putting it straight in. Im an obviously older woman who was there with my schizophrenic son and I felt that he found a way to get more money out of me. Of course once they test, you pay either way. I felt I had no other choice but to buy a $60 tire that an additional $30+ is tacked on for service fees,etc. And due to the readout stating CORR for the tires, I can't register on line. I have to bring proof. All I have is a hand written scrawl at the bottom of my report that says " tire was corrected." Times are hard enough for those of us on Social Security..I felt he was exploiting the situation. I've been a loyal customer..but never will I take my business to Mr. Tire.

Wait time was horrible. I had a 9:30 appt didn't leave until 12:30pm. The person working on my car didn't seem happy at all when I asked to see my damaged tire that he said couldn't be repaired. I asked a guy in the garage initially to see my tire. But he says, "I'm not working on your car." I was hoping he would point me in the right direction or get the person who was working on my car since they all were worker in the same area. But the lady at the counter helped me. Everyone just seemed annoyed and grumpy except the lady at the counter. She was pleasant and very helpful. The only star I give is to her!!

had such a great experience here! The front desk manager was absolutely amazing — she was so kind and helpful, especially when I was feeling a little frazzled. She made the whole process smooth and stress-free. My car was inspected quickly but still very thoroughly, which I really appreciated.
