Beware that one year warranty only covers the repair of a vehicle that can be brought back to the National shop in Abilene. National performed the rebuilding of a transmission in January of 2019. While in California the transmission failed. It was not feasible or cost effective to transport the vehicle back to Texas. The pump bushing failed and gouged the torque converter. Assessment from California repair shop is that the bushing may not have been properly installed. National is not honoring their one year warranty and is not willing to cover all or a portion of the repair cost.

Horrible service. Brought the transmission in to find out why the Suburban was staying in limp mode. All they could tell me was the oil was burnt and second was slipping. When I told them it was in limp after a full rebuild, all they could tell me is what their scans say. No offer to troubleshoot further, even after I told them I'd just take it somewhere else.

It's hard to find trustworthy mechanics these days, that's why I want to tell you about National. I have had two different vehicles in their shop, and I have not had any problems after their service. This is my go to transmission shop. I highly recommend them.

Our transmission on our class A Motorhome went out in Sweetwater, Texas. We called around and no one there could fix it. The closest bigger city was Abilene. We called one repair shop and they couldn’t do it, but told us to call Perry at National. This repair shop is the best I’ve ever encountered. We got our RV back in two days, which is amazing, and it runs beautifully! Very knowledgeable and fair. Perry even called us the next day to check on us. Customer service is top notch!!!!

I was having some issues with my 2009 Chevrolet Silverado Transmission (6L80). I called Perry at National Engine & Transmission and he was very helpful. He answered all my questions and provided all the necessary details I required. I'm not from Abilene, so I didn't know anyone locally to recommend a reputable shop. First, I had the shop run a diagnosis, to see if any codes were being thrown. Fortunately, everything with the transmission checked out as ok. After the diagnosis, they didn't try to push any unnecessary parts or service, they were very honest and helpful. In fact, during the transmission diagnosis they even found some other issues with the truck, brought them to my attention, and I was able to make the repairs myself. This definitely made me feel like I got all the bang for the buck of the diagnosis fee - the checked more than just the transmission! Since the transmission didn't require any service, I paid for the diagnosis and went on my way. After some thinking, even though I didn't NEED repairs right that moment, I had them quote me a price for a torque converter change. With the truck having 142k miles on the original torque converter/transmission, I wanted to do a little preventative maintenance, especially since I tow a travel trailer throughout the summer (and I've heard the stock converters are a little weak). I was extremely impressed with both their attention to detail and turnaround. Throughout the process, I made several phone calls and asked several questions about how it was going and details of the parts they were using, etc. They were very patient with my questions and kept me well informed. After only 2 days, the truck was complete and Perry called me to come pick it up. Unfortunately I was running late getting off work, and didn't think I'd make it to the shop before closing time. Perry was kind enough to stay behind after closing hours as I rushed over after work to pick the truck up. For anyone needing Engine or Transmission work, go see the guys at National Engine and Transmission. Honest, Reliable, Knowledgeable, and Timely!

Took my truck to them to fix a problem another transmission shop in town caused. They were not able to fix it but they definitely went above and beyond with their time and efforts to try and get it fixed. They were upfront and honest about everything from start to finish. Would highly recommend for any vehicle repairs.

I was stuck in this town, because I snapped my cv axle bolts and ripped my left inner axle boot on my 2007 cayman s, luckily these guys were willing to work on it and fix it for me the same day, even though none of them had any prior experience working on porsches.... they still did an excellent job of taking apart the necessary and repairing back to perfection with no problems, pricing is also very fair and the owner and staff are also very friendly. Bottom line i recommend them to anyone needing any transmission and or engine related repairs. Thanks again guy!! I really appreciate the work you've done!

I don't usually give reviews unless the place is exceptional. I must say Perry and the staff at National Transmission have always been great, courteous and very reasonably priced. My car is checked and fixed in no time. They will be my go to place in the future for any repairs. Thanks for the service you give.

I am SO thankful for the Team at National Engine & Transmission. This is my second car that I have trusted National to repair, this being a stick shift that needed a new hydraulic system. The team is honest, straightforward & amazing at getting your car/truck back to you as quickly as possible. I trust them with my business. Two thumbs up! Additional kudos to Bill, the Manager. Highly recommended!

Brought in a transmission, they rebuilt it. It lasted 800 miles, they rebuilt it again. It clunked shifting out of first and slips going into overdrive. Told me that was normal. I put a few thousand miles on it, then pulled a small trailer with it and the transmission overheated. Almost 4 grand down the drain. This was a few years ago. It's just been sitting. To say I'm pissed is an understatement.

I took my truck to National Engine and Transmission, hoping for a quick diagnosis. Unfortunately, the truck was kept there all day without any updates. The following day, around 3 PM, they finally informed me that the issue was the oil filter housing assembly, and the repair would cost around $1,475 and take 2-3 hours. I decided to take my truck elsewhere, and at Jim Clark’s Auto Repair, they fixed it for $1,100 less. Overall, I was disappointed with the lack of communication and the higher cost at National

Great crew, always kept me informed of the progress and reason for any delays. Price came in under quote, which made me very happy. The manager, Bill Patrick, always took my calls and worked with me step by step through the transmission r & r. I actually liked all their employees and noticed a positive working environment. Only wish I could give them a 6 star review.
