A store that’s pretty average — neither better nor worse than others. They tend to push extra services using “safety” arguments that don’t really hold up. On top of that, they’re very slow: I had an 8:00 a.m. appointment for an oil change and didn’t get my car back until noon. Overall, just an normal experience, but nothing that makes me want to come back.

Crooks charged me 539 and told me nothing was wrong with my car now my battery is dead and starter needs to change. Charged me 99 for diagnostic then didn't sanitize my car like the website said cause I booked and appointment. I normally go to Honda but it was a Sunday but even though dealership charge more you at least know your car gonna be right gonna post the picture of my battery so you can see how messed up it was but yet charged me alot for nothing. Then he said I'm gonna feel a difference with my car... yea cause few days later it cut off. Had to get a Real friend to get and fix up my car. never again pep boys and I even was willing to pay but never again.

Absolutely terrible experience at Pep Boys twice, From start to finish, everything felt disorganized and unprofessional. The staff seemed SO uninterested in helping, communication was poor, and I was left waiting far longer than promised with no updates. Prices didn’t match what I was initially told, and the work NEVER done didn’t inspire any confidence at all. I expected basic competence from a well-known chain, but instead got frustration and wasted time. I won’t be returning, and I definitely wouldn’t recommend Pep Boys to anyone.

I am submitting this complaint to report a serious vehicle safety issue involving premature tire failure due to suspected manufacturing defects. I purchased four Omni American Tourer tires, size 205/55R16, from Pep Boys on May 31, 2023 (Service Work Order #2292531). These tires have been in service for less than 15,000 miles. Both front tires developed visible bulging, tread deformation, and vibration while driving. Upon inspection, the tires showed clear signs of internal structural failure, including visible bubbles and deformation. Tires with this level of mileage should not experience internal belt or ply separation. This condition presents a serious safety hazard, including the risk of sudden tire blowout, loss of vehicle control, and potential injury or death. To confirm the condition, I obtained an independent inspection from Firestone Complete Auto Care. Firestone documented that both the left front and right front tires have visible bubbles and internal structural failure, confirming the tires are unsafe for continued use. I reported the issue to Pep Boys, where I was advised that the tires needed replacement. However, I encountered resistance when requesting a proper warranty inspection, and I was told I would need to pay additional fees to further evaluate the defect. During a follow-up visit, the store manager handled the tire in an unsafe and unprofessional manner by dropping it from approximately 8–10 feet, potentially further damaging evidence of the defect. This incident should be recorded on store security cameras. Additionally, I noticed discrepancies between the DOT numbers on the tires currently installed on my vehicle and the DOT numbers listed on my original purchase documentation. When I questioned this, I was instructed to contact customer service and the discussion was terminated. Based on the visible damage, low mileage, and independent inspection findings, I believe these tires suffer from a manufacturing defect. The condition made the vehicle unsafe to operate, and I refused to continue driving with these tires installed due to the immediate safety risk. I am submitting this complaint to request that NHTSA review this issue for potential safety defects affecting this tire model and to help prevent possible injuries to other drivers. I have photographs of the tires, an independent inspection report, and purchase documentation available upon request. Thank you for your attention to this serious safety matter. Buyer be aware Hello, I am writing to formally report a serious discrepancy involving the DOT numbers of the tires I recently purchased and had installed at Pep Boys. The DOT number stamped on the actual tires installed on my vehicle is: DOT: 1TB PJKK5C 4422 However, the DOT number listed on my Pep Boys receipt is: DOT: XALWU4422 These two DOT numbers do not match. My receipt also states: “Your tires have been electronically registered with the manufacturer per NHTSA CFR Part 574.7 requirements.” Because DOT numbers are used for tire identification, safety recalls, warranty validation, and compliance with NHTSA CFR Part 574.7, this discrepancy raises serious concerns regarding: • Whether the tires installed are the same tires documented on the receipt • The accuracy of the electronic registration with the manufacturer • Proper traceability in the event of a safety recall or defect investigation I am requesting the following: 1. A written explanation for why the DOT number on my receipt does not match the DOT number on the installed tires 2. Written confirmation of which DOT number was actually registered with the manufacturer 3. A corrected invoice reflecting the correct DOT number or appropriate corrective action, including tire replacement if necessary Please note that accurate DOT documentation is a safety and regulatory matter, not a clerical preference. This is a warning for customers and constructive criticism for Pep Boys management. I went there to fix a flat tire they told me it would about an hour, they didn't get back to me until 3 hours later and was done in 5 hours. They tried to sell me on installing 2 mediocre non-brand tires, when I could get good brand name tires for half the price. They gave me the car back missing 2 bolts that they didn't take responsibility for and 1 tire was wabling terribly. On the positive side, they get 1 star because they did eventually adjust the wobble by tightening the screws and Chris, the manager was friendly. Be wary of unnecessary upsells and lack of accountability and integrity.

Got another nail in a tire. Construction next door and third nail in 6 months. Every time, I am told it cannot be patched and I need a new tire. I got a different excuse this time. Inside is too “slimy” for patch to stick! Took a long time. And they always try to upsell. Last time it was my brakes. This time it was rim is bent and I need air filter. At least the tire was cheap.

the manager that helped me out with when my payment had some glitch was amazing and super nice/helpful and helped me sort it out. but service wise when all my tires were changed they ended up breaking one of my tire pressure sensors which i ended up having to get fixed at my mechanic. got the error message shortly after driving off but was not going to go back when they already messed up the first time. will not get my tires changed here again.

I’ve been coming to this location for several years, and the service has always been great. Unfortunate, I have to change my 5 to a 2. I didn’t have a chance before going on my trip. But, I’ve been to Pep Boys several times before for oil changes without issues, but after my most recent visit (8/28/25), I had a very concerning experience. A few hours after the oil change, I noticed a large amount of oil dripping from under my car. I took a video and returned to the shop, where they admitted the problem was due to the oil pan screw being worn out. This should have been noticed and addressed during the oil change, but instead, it was overlooked. Had I gone on a longer drive right after, I could have been stranded on the road with serious engine damage. This shows a lack of attention and care from the mechanic who serviced my vehicle. While Pep Boys did take the car back in to fix it, the situation should never have happened in the first place. (see pics below.)
