For years, I had positive experiences with Jim the mechanic, now retired, and the front desk staff. However, I just had a very negative experience with the current mechanic (I don't know his name-- he did not introduce himself and I did not ask his name, but he said he is currently the only one working there). He was rude, impatient and condescending. He refused to answer my questions, telling me I was taking too much of his time. (My conversation with him lasted a few minutes and only took as much time as it did because I had been given contradictory information by him and the front desk staff and because of his refusal to listen or address my questions). Rarely have I been treated so poorly that I felt the need to write a negative review.

I highly recommend Sandpiper to anyone and everyone with a Japanese car. They are honest, fair, thorough and have never made me feel embarrassed that I don't always know what's happening under my hood. Ask all the "stupid" questions you want, know that you're not being ripped off, and drive away feeling safe in your vehicle. These are good people.

We took our car into to get the brakes repaired in January. Soon after, we noticed a new sound, not all the time, but often enough. It wasn't the squeaking brakes sound that you hear when the brakes need to be replaced, but another weird sound. After a drive to Portland, the sound became much worse. I took it to a Les Schwab and they identified the problem. "Where did you get the brakes fixed?" the mechanic asked, shaking his head, looking at me like I had taken our car to a cut-rate repair shop. "To a local repair shop that we've gone to for years," I said, weirdly trying to defend myself against what seemed like a criticism of my judgment. "Well they did not do the job right," he emphasized. "There was no left front caliper bolt in your brake." He waited a beat, eyebrow arched, still wondering what I was thinking trusting my life and my family's life with this obviously shoddy shop. "Either they did not put in the bolt or it fell out, which shouldn't happen. Either way, they did not check their work," he said, switching gears. "This is serious. Brakes are no joke." I stood there with my mouth open. He continued: "I have checked to make sure that all of your brakes are properly installed and I have replaced the bolt. No charge." All of this happened on the eve of the pandemic, but I finally was able to send a letter, notifying Sandpiper of the problem. After a week of no word, I left a message on a Monday morning. They were open for business, so were not shut down due to the pandemic. This morning, Wednesday, as my husband was leaving the house for his third chemotherapy treatment, they call. "I'm not sure what we can do for you," she says, unapologetically. The answer, of course, is obvious. They did not do the work, so they should not be paid. In fact, my car left their shop in worse shape then when I took it in. Before I took it in, I had functional brakes. When I left their shop, I had a ticking time bomb. "I asked for a full refund in my letter," I said, while I helped my husband put on a face mask. "We can't do that," she said. In short, this is fair warning. Sandpiper does not stand by their service. They will not do the job properly. They will not take responsibility for their mistake. They will not do the right thing. They do not deserve your money. Try Les Schwab instead.

Our 2018 Honda Fit had a peculiar problem -- odometer reset button broken. This could have been difficult & expensive. It was not!! It's a pleasure doing business with Sandpiper. We had been going to another auto-service business, now defunct, and we are very happy to connect with Sandpiper Import Services.

An 07 RAV 4 w/ 110,000 miles. I'd gotten used to getting 22 mpg on the open road. First time they touched it; 25 mpg. Honest and competent 🍻 2021 @ 160,000 miles. Same mechanic, same results. The mpg had slowly gone back to the low 20’s. First fifteen hundred mile trip and back to 25 mpg. Also, I told them I needed a new battery. They did the tests and found the battery was healthy. They could have sold me a new battery. 👍

We have been using this shop for nearly 10 years now, and always happy with their service. Their prices are always fair - their quotes are below average numbers online, their service is of high quality - never had any issue of the repairs, and they are friendly - I always feel welcomed and their staff members are courteous and to the point. Highly recommended.

A friend of mine recommended Sandpiper when my car wouldn't start. My family and I were only without a car for two days due to a broken starter. They called me with a reasonable labor and parts quote and a date of when it would be ready. The work was done well and on time; the clerk in the front answered any questions and provided info on their work. Super happy with them. Fair price, great work, and done in a very timely manner.

Came in to ask a few questions, incredibly rude and dismissive. The lady at the front desk should take a moment to hear how she speaks to people trying to give her money for the job they are there to do. If you want a big attitude, you know where to find it, front desk.

Super disappointed. I spent $135 to have my car towed there only for them to say the mechanic didn’t “want to work on a problem car.” Never heard of an auto shop not “wanting to” do their job… wouldn’t even test drive it because it had a damaged seatbelt. Next auto shop helped me no problems. Gladly spend my money elsewhere that does what they advertise.

Honestly very disappointed in this shop. I have brought my car here since I moved to Eugene a year ago and they provided good service. Guy at the front desk was super nice and honest. Now, I have an issue with my car and they said they won’t even look at it. They told me to wait until my car can’t start again and the check engine light turns on…only then will they look at it…Called another shop in the area and they didn’t hesitate to get me in to diagnose the issue. I expected more from a place whose job it is to diagnose problems for cars. Definitely lost a customer.

Brought my car here to be looked over a few months ago after noticing the e-brake was very loose and not working well at all, as well as wanting an inspection done since I just bought the vehicle. They said they tightened the e brake, which still was loose leaving me unable to park on hills at all. An older woman who worked there also snarked about how my car looked like it was worked on by a ‘backyard mechanic’ and that she wouldn’t have purchased it. She did not explain at all what she meant by that. I’m unsure if she was even a mechanic or technician. Well, after my e brake was still not working and I started to notice a wobble and looseness in steering once driving over 70mph. I brought it back and asked them to fully replace the e brake cable and to diagnose the wobbles. I was told, I shit you not, that I must not have an understanding of how I-5 has grooves in it and my car must just be the perfect width of those grooves and that is where the wobble came from, and that my brake was fine and I must not be pulling it up all the way up. To say I was flabbergasted to be gas lit into believing my loose steering and wobble was not a car issue but a road issue is an understatement. Absolutely wild. Anyways since they were too lazy to actually do any sort of diagnostic besides telling me my car was fine I grabbed my keys and dipped, only to have found out my brake was shot, I had a bent rim, and my tires needed balancing. I’d avoid at all cost, to say the least.

I had car problems Sunday night, they were able to get me in Monday morning and had my car back to me on Tuesday. I was surprised at the efficiency. As a woman, I struggle going to auto shops because I'm often talked down to or taken advantage of, but that wasn't the case here. They provided a written explanation as to what they found and worked on. I really appreciate the service provided! Thank you.
