For years, I had positive experiences with Jim the mechanic, now retired, and the front desk staff. However, I just had a very negative experience with the current mechanic (I don't know his name-- he did not introduce himself and I did not ask his name, but he said he is currently the only one working there). He was rude, impatient and condescending. He refused to answer my questions, telling me I was taking too much of his time. (My conversation with him lasted a few minutes and only took as much time as it did because I had been given contradictory information by him and the front desk staff and because of his refusal to listen or address my questions). Rarely have I been treated so poorly that I felt the need to write a negative review.

I highly recommend Sandpiper to anyone and everyone with a Japanese car. They are honest, fair, thorough and have never made me feel embarrassed that I don't always know what's happening under my hood. Ask all the "stupid" questions you want, know that you're not being ripped off, and drive away feeling safe in your vehicle. These are good people.

We took our car into to get the brakes repaired in January. Soon after, we noticed a new sound, not all the time, but often enough. It wasn't the squeaking brakes sound that you hear when the brakes need to be replaced, but another weird sound. After a drive to Portland, the sound became much worse. I took it to a Les Schwab and they identified the problem. "Where did you get the brakes fixed?" the mechanic asked, shaking his head, looking at me like I had taken our car to a cut-rate repair shop. "To a local repair shop that we've gone to for years," I said, weirdly trying to defend myself against what seemed like a criticism of my judgment. "Well they did not do the job right," he emphasized. "There was no left front caliper bolt in your brake." He waited a beat, eyebrow arched, still wondering what I was thinking trusting my life and my family's life with this obviously shoddy shop. "Either they did not put in the bolt or it fell out, which shouldn't happen. Either way, they did not check their work," he said, switching gears. "This is serious. Brakes are no joke." I stood there with my mouth open. He continued: "I have checked to make sure that all of your brakes are properly installed and I have replaced the bolt. No charge." All of this happened on the eve of the pandemic, but I finally was able to send a letter, notifying Sandpiper of the problem. After a week of no word, I left a message on a Monday morning. They were open for business, so were not shut down due to the pandemic. This morning, Wednesday, as my husband was leaving the house for his third chemotherapy treatment, they call. "I'm not sure what we can do for you," she says, unapologetically. The answer, of course, is obvious. They did not do the work, so they should not be paid. In fact, my car left their shop in worse shape then when I took it in. Before I took it in, I had functional brakes. When I left their shop, I had a ticking time bomb. "I asked for a full refund in my letter," I said, while I helped my husband put on a face mask. "We can't do that," she said. In short, this is fair warning. Sandpiper does not stand by their service. They will not do the job properly. They will not take responsibility for their mistake. They will not do the right thing. They do not deserve your money. Try Les Schwab instead.
