I came here at the recommendation of AAA for a battery replacement after my car battery died. Did the replacement within the hour and even checked tire pressure for me quickly when out the door. Highly professional and friendly, and would recommend.

This was one of the authorized AAA repair garages that were available when I had to have my car towed due to vandalism caused when somebody tried to steal my catalytic converter. They were very good in working with my insurance company and getting the repairs done as expeditiously as possible,. while working within the parameters set by my insurance. Even though I had never had availed myself of their services prior to this, I will definitely be a return customer for any future routine maintenance or other needs.

I have used Ted and Al's on Stanyan for years. Buzz and his team are friendly, professional, and fair. I trust bringing my car there whether it is simply for an oil change, to get my windows fixed after a break-in, or if something more complicated is going on with my car. I'll continue to bring my vehicles here and highly recommend them!

I got a recommendation to them and it was a great experience. I don’t know much about cars but Buz made me feel comfortable and I definitely trust them. The overall transaction was very very easy. I’m so happy to have a new great mechanic in SF

Buzz made it easy to drop off and pick up with my schedule, and they finished quickly, did exactly what was needed, and gave feedback after the repair. I appreciate the thought and attention. Yes, the work was good, of course. I’ve found my new local mechanic!

I used Cole Garage for years and was very happy with them. When they closed, I used the dealer for a while, but then decided to give Ted & Al's a try, as they were in the neighborhood. I went in for a service call (basically an oil change) and felt completely ripped off. A year ago, the dealer charged me $4.10 for a quart of synthetic oil, but Ted & Al charger $13.50 a quart (x7). Yes, I know there's been some inflation this past year --- but know it's not 330%... Also was charge $157.50 for labor and bill was close $300, where it was about 1/3 that price at Cole Garage for the same service. Essentially I felt completely ripped off, and wondering if it's because I'm a woman and they didn't think I knew any better. I was hoping to be treated fairly, so I could start using this place for my ongoing auto service, but no way I am going to go back there now. I confirmed with my (male) significant other that I was totally ripped off compared to what he pays for the same service, so not just being paranoid about this. If you have a great auto service person convenient to the Haight/Cole Valley neighborhood, would love to hear about them, because this place is definitely not going to get any more business from me.

I met Buzz and described to him how my car was making an intermittent and inconsistent scraping noise which I thought might related to the brakes. He explained their process of evaluating the problem and he later contacted me with the recommendations and estimated costs. He also stated that although new brakes were a consideration, they were not absolutely essential at this point. The original problem wound up not being caused by the brakes and it was resolved. I decided to get the new brakes installed since the car was already there and Buzz had explained how the brakes would eventually need to be replaced. I would recommend this shop for the quality of its workmanship and the integrity and honesty of those working there.

Ted and Al’s is one of the best car service shops I’ve ever been to. Buzz is completely professional, and communicates exactly what needs to be done and why. The prices quoted are what you pay - no surprises- and the car is always ready on time. I highly recommend them!

Buzz is awesome. He has been so responsive and trustworthy. I always feel like I can just leave my car and get it back fixed and running perfectly. For someone who doesn’t know much about cars, a feeling of trust is everything. I feel like he makes the place.

My car ended up overheating in the nearby area, so I ended up taking the gamble to roll into here. As soon as they saw me pull in, they came over to greet me and see what they could help out with. They warned me that there were booked out for the day, but they still took the time to get me a diagnose and estimate on replacing my radiator and the other relevant parts. Even though they said they couldn’t do much today, they still topped off my radiator with water and patched what they could, allowing me to lug it home. And, they did all of this without expecting to charge me. I would definitely recommend coming here because their customer service is above and beyond.

My car's engine misfired which resulted in the engine light and the service traction control light to come on. I needed my car to be towed to a repair shop, but my normal repair shop was closed till next week so Triple A recommended Ted and Al's services and I am so glad they did! Buzz was amazing! He was very kind, professional and upfront. Being a woman, no matter how much knowledge I have about cars, I still get treated many times like I'm stupid and incompetent, but Buzz did NOT do that and I greatly appreciated that! He explained everything to me in detail, I never felt like he was trying to upsell anything to me, he kept me posted on everything that was going on, he showed me the damaged parts he had to change on my car when I went to pick my car up, the repairs were done well and in a timely fashion and he made sure to keep the cost of repairs as close as possible to his original quoted price. I highly recommend this place and I will definitely bring my car and business to them again!!

My '72 Land Cruiser wouldn't start one day and AAA towing gave me Ted & Al's as a certified shop. They found the issue quickly and I was back on the road, but, the truck wasn't driving the same so I took her back. They fixed the issue with no extra charge and even refunded some. This is exactly how a customer/business interaction should be! She runs better than ever now. Thanks again Buzz!

Came here Nov 2021 for a full inspection, following that performed $2300 worth of services. When I got my car back, there was a warning light that persisted and I had to come back to the shop to get it turned off. Then my car battery started dying, which was bizarre because I had just replaced my battery not too long ago. Came back again to the shop, apparently it was due to loose battery terminals. I was definitely frustrated at that point because after spending more than $2k, I shouldn't have to come back to the shop not once but twice because they clearly missed some final checks on their end. Not along after my car started making very specific clunking noises I had never heard before. It kept getting worse so I finally took it into a different mechanic, said it was due to lack of lubrication on axles. Well, part of my $2300 service at Ted & Al's included axles, so I had strong reasons to believe this was the result of yet another sloppy job at their shop. Beyond frustrated at this point. All of these things - making sure warning light goes off, battery terminal, lubrication - they're all really small things that could've been prevented. Instead I had to run around multiple times trying to diagnose the issue and spend even more money at another shop. Interaction at Ted & Al's was fine, but I would not take my car back due to the extremely sloppy services.

I had a great experience at this shop. I had a bunch of issues and needed maintenance. I called Monday morning and I was able to drop off my car immediately for a laundry list of repairs, and it was ready Tuesday afternoon. The manager Buzz was friendly and even decreased the labor cost a bit due to the overlapping tasks. It wasn't cheap, but neither are all the other mechanics in San Francisco, and for the convenience and over all experience, well worth it.

Buzz and his team provide such great service. They really stand by their warranties, are super communicative and work fast. We had a window break multiple times and they fixed it the second and third time for free, no questions asked. They really care about their customers and do great work; I highly recommend!

Wonderful experience with Buzz. Nice and efficient guy! My 2009 Civic needed an axle shaft replacement (driver side). Honda's dealership estimate was roughly +650$ for labor and +350$ for the part (tax not included). they required I paid for the part before them ordering it (nothing wrong with that - apparently they have an experience of people canceling their service after the part was ordered by honda). The part would arrive the next day. This felt like too much money to spend on an old car so I started looking elsewhere. Ted & Al's had great reviews so I gave it a shot. I called Buzz yesterday and told him about the situation. He offered to inspect the car for free first thing in the morning and give me an estimate as soon as possible. Within one hour of dropping the car off (9am), he showed me the failing part and explained the risks (oil was visibly leaking from it). He had already ordered and received the part (100% new - he said they can easily return it so no need to pay upfront), and could complete the service by 2pm. Costs? 315$ for labor and 243.92$ for the part. Total with tax: 579$. I saved +400$, and I have a 2 year / 24000 miles warranty on the repair work! Thank you Buzz!
