Edit #2: The owner tried to pressure me into deleting this review via text. Be aware. Then why did Mark tell me $965 was for the part only? Did you miss that when you checked your phone records? Edit: If you want to see how unprofessional these guys are, just check out the shop owners responses to the negative reviews. He quoted me on things I didn't say, can't keep track of accurate shop records, and lashes out when criticized. Even going the lengths to trash another business in his reply to someone else's review. Mr. Owner, I was at your shop a few months ago for an oil change and you guys tried to upsell me on multiple repairs. One of them you quoted me over $600 to fix. Another shop did it right for $260. During this past visit, Mark quoted me $965 for a part. When I called to ask about the price I was met with an attitude, and Mark would not even provide me with a part number so I could do my own research. Forgive me for doing my due diligence. I never once asked you to use a part ordered feom the internet. I only brought up the price of the same part I found on my car brands part website because somehow it was going to cost you $600 more to order it, and I was curious about that. Thankfully, we declined the repairs at your shop and got it fixed the next day for half the price. Maybe you should spend less time arguing with people on the internet, and focus on running a trustworthy business. Best of luck! Original: I used to go to this shop before they became a Midas, then switched back to Village Motor Works. Don't be confused by the name. This is not the same shop it was before. There is not an ounce of professionalism or customer service to be found, and you're going to pay a premium for that. Each service I've gotten a quote from them for, was 25-30% cheaper everywhere else I looked. If you want to pay more than you should, and be treated like an inconvenience, stop by Village Motor Works!

Super impressed with Mark and their service. Had trouble with our 2019 Honda Pilot’s AC. Mark gave us the price for the inspection and to refill the coolant up front without me asking. After they found the leak, Mark called and told me the price for the whole repair including taxes. Repairs were done quickly and I’ve never felt our Honda’s AC blow this cold before. Thank you!

I go here for convenience, because I can walk to work. I haven’t been here for anything other than a state inspection since the new people took over. I just paid double what I normally pay for a simple (synthetic) oil change & tire rotation (no cabin/engine air filter replacement). I paid $162!!For Reference, I paid $82 in December at Christian Brothers for the exact same service, the exact same amount of oil and the same oil. No thanks!

I always go to Village Motor works for anything my Subaru needs. The staff there are wonderful! Most importantly, they are honest and I never feel like I am being taken advantage of because I'm a woman. Their prices are fair as well. Definitely recommend Village Motor Works if you need your car to be worked on!

Refreshingly honest and helpful experience every time - I continue to be impressed with the customer service here. Very communicative and I always feel well informed due to their text communication platform. Highly recommend this seemingly mom & pop operation for all your auto needs.

The service was great! They were very friendly, responsive, and were able to explain to me exactly what was wrong. I was able to get my car taken care of the same day! Would definitely recommend!

A friend initially recommended Village Motor Works for an oil change on my VW. I much prefer supporting a smaller, local business vs. a giant brand… and they proved why. Before I could schedule my oil change, my car battery died. Mark and the team were incredible! Got me in right away, communicated their recommendation and what the cost would be *before* the work was done, answered all my questions, and didn’t try to up-sell me on services I didn’t need. Everything was done quickly, and as a female who knows very little about cars, I appreciated that no one talked down to me or tried to take advantage (not always the case when it comes to mechanics). They’ve got a new loyal customer. And my dog is too, because he got a treat when he came with me to pick up the car when everything was done!

My go to place! Easy to schedule an appointment, drop off, and pick up. Great communication throughout the process. I trust their expertise — they were transparent and upfront about what was necessary for my car and the costs associated. Mark and Matt were wonderful!

Did my diagnostic for low tire pressure for no charge, but took ~four hours with an appointment and quoted $55 to patch a potential flat. Not great--but more importantly, Mark, who manned customer service for me, was offputting to deal with. He was curt, not welcoming or friendly, and pretty unhelpful--he ended calls abruptly, mumbled, and got frustrated at me explaining my desire for a tire diagnostic when I came in. Interactions with him were an uphill battle and like him interfacing with customers was an inconvenience instead of his job. He's a feature of many recent low star reviews--owner should check up on him. Between the reception, pricing, wait time and other similar reviews, decent treatment by these guys seems exclusive to personal friends or chance--I'd encourage you go anywhere else first.

Matt and his team were very friendly, easy to reach via phone for questions, and I received text updates about my car. I had dropped my car off for an oil change in the morning and when it was ready for pick up I received a text. In the future I would return to Village Motor Works due to the ease and convenience they provided.

Was very pleased with Village Motor Works. I made an appointment very easily and they performed maintenance, tire rotation and filter replacements very professionally and promptly. They texted when vehicle was ready. Costs were quite reasonable and they were very honest about what work was nor necessary at this time. Will definitely become a regular customer.

I brought my car in because the brake light was on, and I got it back the next day in great condition after being given a detailed description of what was causing the issue! The prices were fair and they communicated well

I had been looking for a “non-dealership” group that I can trust similar to how I have trusted “The foreign Service” guys for my Mercedes for 15 years now. I rarely respond to a direct mail postcard ad but I did because they were a neighborhood close by shop on Boykin. A couple of weeks ago I had my son take his Volkswagen SUV in for a general service. Fair price. In-N-Out quick. I just took my daughter‘s Audi SUV and had the exact same experience. My decade old Audi AA is coming up for a major service and there is no question I will be taking it to them versus an Audi dealership. Solid guys and they did not “find problems” that needed to be conveniently fixed. The main thing I look for early on and a trustworthy mechanic. Give them a shot. They just earned my third one.

Have had to drop my car off on short notice twice in the last few weeks for separate issues that came up. The team was quick to diagnose, provided recommendations on how to fix, and in each case had my vehicle ready to go the same day for a good price. Highly recommend!

I had a very poor experience getting my car inspected here recently and don't recommend going here. When I dropped it off on a Friday afternoon, I was told they would give me a call when it was ready in about an hour, so I walked to a coffee shop. However, after a little more than an hour had passed and I still hadn't received a call, I walked back to check on my car. The building was already closed, lights were off, and everyone was gone well before the 5:30pm closing time posted on Google, their website, and their front door. My car was plainly visible locked up behind the fence. Since they're closed on the weekend, I was stranded without a car until Monday morning, forcing me to change and cancel my plans and find other ways to get around. When I picked it up first thing Monday morning, I discovered they wrote down my phone number wrong by one digit, which is an understandable mistake despite the fact that I gave it to them twice when asked upon arrival, but strangely no attempt was made to contact me via the email I also gave. They claimed they were unable to provide any discount for the inconvenience of keeping my car all weekend without my consent, and also falsely claimed they were here until closing (I have timestamped pictures showing otherwise). Mark, the technician, was very unpleasant and in general did not seem interested in working on my car or talking to me at all. Between the poor customer service and communication, and being severely inconvenienced all weekend when they closed early with my car locked up, this is not a business I will ever be returning to. Take your car elsewhere. EDIT: in accordance with the owner's response below, I called and was issued a refund, for which I am thankful.

An excellent mechanic service. My engine light came on Friday, my car was better than ever Monday. I would return for future services. Employee I spoke with was highly professional and friendly. They even followed up to make sure there was no immediate issue with the repairs. If I got scammed, I’d never know it. If you’re in need of a mechanic, this is the shop if you’re in around downtown Raleigh.

Ive been coming here for about 3 years now and have no complaints. Emissions and safety inspection was pretty quick and good price. The cabin filter and engine filters were also replaced, and I thought it was a bit pricey, mainly because they used some higher quality parts than I'm used to. I've gotten an emergency battery replacement here too, and they were very quick to get that done. Labor rates are about what you might expect. But overall, I trust these guys and at least I know they use quality parts that will last.
