Please read this before doing any expensive service with AAA RTP. We used them for over 4 years, and just had the worst, most disappointing experience that has left us in a horrible position. We took our hybrid here bc they are hybrid certified. Fast forward four years and our engine overheated. They told us we needed a replacement, and offered to do the work for us for $9K, including the cost of a barely used replacement engine. Since they replaced our engine, our car has been undrivable. It kept breaking down and they kept saying it was minor issues. A bubble in the coolant pipe, etc. They worked on it, it broke down again, always in less than 48 hours. Eventually we had it towed somewhere else and we are now told we have a transmission leak so it needs to either be rebuilt or replaced. There was no issue with the transmission before AAA RTP did an engine replacement. And they werent even competent enough to diagnose the transmission issue themselves. We expected them to give us an accurate diagnosis of the car so we could make the best decision before we replaced the engine. Of course they claim no responsibility. So we were scammed into spending $9k on a car that is still undrivable. We can never prove if they damaged our car, but they failed to diagnose all that was wrong with it before convincing us to spend $9k on only fixing part of what was wrong. Either that, or they damaged it. We will never know. My husband spent two weeks trying to negotiate how to get money back on what we spent, which was all under warranty. They treated us horribly. Told us it was a coincidence. That they aren't responsible, there is no way they could be. They pretended they would "make us whole" and then were disrespectful when we called to follow up. They never gave us back cent. We will never go back here. You shouldn't either.

Found ourselves with a flat tire and was towed to this location. The 2 associates at the desk on August 24th were nothing short of the best. Extremely helpful even when they did not have the correct tire for us. Helped us find the closest option, gave us water for our dogs, and mounted a new tire at no charge. Absolutely cannot thank them & the woman technician enough (sorry we did not get any of their names!)

I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for the exceptional service Terry Smith provided when helping me with my car at the 5137 NC-55 AAA. Your professionalism truly stood out, and your charismatic personality made what could have been a stressful situation much easier to handle. Not only did you ensure that my car was fixed properly, but you also made sure I wasn’t overcharged, which I greatly appreciate. It’s rare to find someone who combines expertise with such genuine care for their customers. Thank you again Terry and the technicians, for your outstanding service. I’ll certainly be recommending you and AAA to others!

The staff at this AAA offered to help me as soon as as I walked in the door. They were familiar with what they had to offer and when I told them what I wanted they readily got it together. They offered to make me a TripTik but I wasn't exactly sure of what my plans were. They told me that they could do it later when I knew more of what I wanted. Wow! It has been so many years since someone offered to make me a TripTik that I didn't know that AAA still made them. Kudos, Ladies. Job well done!

If I could give 0, this place would get it. They have never been great but it seemed they could at least be trusted to do an oil change, but no they can’t even manage that unless you give them all day even if you have an appointment. Though we made an appointment well in advance by speaking to a person there, on the date they would not do our oil changes until at least 3-4 hours after our appointment. They claim that this is what someone should expect from an appointment and compared it to a table reservation (what? That isn’t how any reservations work). Anyway, wouldn’t want anyone this disorganized and bad at even rudimentary services doing anything with my car, especially for the prices they charge!

The manager clearly needs a refresher coarse in customer service. I had a part shipped to the hwy 55 location. My regular service writer was off that day but let me know that it showed up and that the store manager wanted it picked up asap. ( I regularly drive 35 minutes to get my car serviced with AAA) so I drive to the store to figure out what is happening and find the manager, Pete. I told him who I was and that I was told to pick up the door but that I wanted the work done at AAA. He told me the part was out by back already ( he put it by the dumpster while throwing his temper tantrum). When I told him that he was being ridiculous and over reacting, he told me to just go get the part and that he didn't want to do business with me. In a customer service setting if a part shows up with a customer's name on it standard practice is to call the customer to try to set up an appointment and gather information. Instead of handling the situation the right way, Pete was rude and useless. It is time for my transmission service and my brake fluid service within 500 miles so between fluids and the part installation he chose to turn down around $1200 in services just because he handled a situation wrong and was too immature to resolve the issue correctly. This is the only negative experience I have had with AAA in years. I always try to give good reviews for the employees that are informative and respectful. To summarize the review, I hope that no one else is unlucky enough to have the 'manager' (Pete), 'attempt' to help them!

I'm honestly surprised to see so many positive reviews—are these genuine, or were they possibly written by AAA themselves? My experience at this location was extremely disappointing. The staff appeared unprofessional. They had no idea what services had already been performed on my vehicle and simply suggested work that had already been done. When I asked for a shuttle ride home, they refused, saying they don’t offer it for minor services like oil changes—funny enough, they didn’t offer it even when I had major repairs done during my 60k-mile service. The prices are also way too high. For example, they quoted me $189.99 for a coolant fluid service, while other auto service centers charge just $139 for the same thing. I compared all the recommended services and found other places were much more reasonably priced. To make matters worse, I became a AAA member three months ago expecting benefits—but I’ve realized that whatever 10% discount they give on labor, they quietly add back into the service charges. So in the end, AAA gains and the customer loses.

I've been going to this AAA location for over a decade. I called at 7:32am & made an appointment for 10am. I arrived at 10 for my appointment & was told man at the desk he couldn't find me. Eventually he realized that I was in for 11am. I know what time I made the appointment for as I had a full schedule for the day. I asked how much longer it'll be. He proceeded to count the people ahead of me and my 1 year old. No apology. I'm 99.9% sure that he was the person that put in the wrong appointment. I'm done. I left and went to Chapel Hill Tire on Highgate. They got me in and out. The customer service was great and the service. I needed AAA to put the nail on the coffin. They've messed up numerous on my previous vehicle and current. I still have the apology note from where they forgot to put back on my oil cap. I had a tire issue last time and had to go back after driving off a couple of miles. It's my fault for continually paying to be treated badly.

I had a wonderful experience using AAA's travel services at this Durham office. I called ahead last week to ask about getting our International Driver's Permits for an upcoming trip, and spoke with Jabeu. She was super kind, professional, and helpful, answering all my questions and making me feel confident about stopping in to get them that weekend. We were met with the same friendly, efficient service when we came to the office! Jabeu was handling several customers needing similar travel help all at once, and she remained calm, confident, and incredibly personable. We were in and out in under 15 minutes, photos taken, paid, and even received extra travel tips while waiting. Couldn't ask for a smoother experience. If you need expert travel assistance, Jabeu is the one to ask for!

When they could not help me. They were willing to call around to rival shops to find me a place where I could go to get my car taken care of. Truly kind and generous people.

As it turns out upon further review photo documentation showed my center cap was not in place before servicing. Thanks to AAA management for investigating this matter further. All is well

Edit: update after 2 months, 2 "investigations", no sign of the actual refund and no word back, ever. AAA in this region is a joke. Save yourself. Pathetic. I suppose if you enjoy being gaslit and don't care about your car, this place will do. I've been bringing my vehicles here for a little over a year, and never in my life have I had so many recurring car troubles. November 5th I had my MAF replaced and the fuel system "cleaned", including the throttle plate. Yet twice since then (Nov 30) my MAF had thrown a check engine light. So imagine my shock opening the car up this week to find an absolutely not even a little bit cleaned throttle plate. (Picture post "cleaning") And then, upon demanding a refund, which to be fair, was granted without hassle, I impressed upon them the importance of actually doing the services they charge for. I would have left it there, but the absolute audacity of Terry trying to convince me that a) a dirty throttle plate isn't a problem and b) they totally cleaned it. Cleaning "doesnt take sometimes", whatever that means. That I have no clue what I'm talking about. Well, I have to draw the line somewhere. I could go on with more details about the "work" I've had "done" here, but I'll leave it at: don't take your car here. I've been treated better at the sketchy gravel car graveyard lot mechanics than I was here. Unbelievable.

I've had a great experience here so far! I've had to bring the used Jeep I purchased, four times in the 2 months since I bought it. They remembered me every time and they were always upfront about prices and the time it would take to get work done. They let me know what other things were wrong with the car as well but they never attempted to pressure me into feeling like I needed to fix those other issues immediately; instead, they continually helped me to understand the different problems that this car has. Amazing staff that always felt helpful, considerate and professional.

If I could give 0 stars I would! I got my car towed here after getting a cylinder misfire error code. They quoted me almost 3k in repairs! I got my car towed to Gil’s Automotive 8 min down the road and he confirmed that the majority of the issues AAA quoted me for were straight up lies. Gil fixed my car up quickly and affordably and got me back on the road and my car has never drove better which is farther proof that AAA intentionally lied about the problems. The whole ordeal terrified me because I thought I was going to have to junk the car. To top it all off AAA charged me $150 in diagnostics! basically made me pay for them to lie to me! Do not bring your car here unless you want to waste time, energy and money. Save yourself the trouble and check out Gil’s automotive.

I’ve had some good experiences here in the past and had started to trust this shop. However, around November 2024, I was quoted about $800 for an AC repair. They said both the blower motor and blower motor resistor needed replacement, along with related service and labor. From my research, it seems rare for both parts to fail at the same time—though I can’t say for sure. Mind you I also paid close to $150 for a diagnosis. My car is a 2022 Honda, so I was surprised and frustrated that such a new vehicle would need such an expensive repair. The person helping me called it “good news” and “not an expensive repair,” after commenting on my upgraded trim model. The parts had to be ordered, so I scheduled a follow-up appointment for 1 week. When I arrived, they hadn’t ordered them, so I had to reschedule again. Thankfully, before the next appointment, my AC started working perfectly on its own, and it’s been completely fine for a full year since. I waited to post this because I wanted to be fair, but after a year with absolutely no issues whatsoever, I’m just grateful I didn’t spend $800 on what was likely a small blockage or a couple of leaves.

Had my oil changed with a tire rotation Oct 2 2025. The center cap on my Chevy was not placed back correctly or wasn’t installed at all. Since Oct Nov Dec 2025 l have called and assure the part would be replaced and a call back initiated to return to this shop. No call back has been received and no one knows who or what is going on. Each time l was told the manager would be informed. Not happening. I have been a member of AAA over thirty years and guess what lm taking my business elsewhere. Something is wrong here

The AAA Car Care Service for repairing my car last weekend was outstanding. They addressed my concerns, didn't try to oversell me by understanding why I was there (starter problem). They pointed out things that eventually needed to be checked but I loved how they didn't try to pressure me. What I also loved was that I didn't have to stand in line and didn't have to wait hours and hours. The only reason I am giving AAA 4 stars and not 5 is because of my road service to tow my car. The road service number on my AAA card is what I called. Someone came out to meet me, and they said I'd need to be towed. I waited and when the tow company came out the guy said he'd just received a call that he would not be the one to help me but that someone else would be sent by AAA. Seriously? Overall I waited 3 hours to be towed to the AAA Car Care Center nearest me on Hwy 55 in Durham. This part was unacceptable.

No International Driver’s Permit and got to know by wasting my time to go there… they don’t state it either on the webpage and it’s impossible to call them, they have a robot that doesn’t let you speak to a person.

In my attempt to change my break light by myself…very simple according to YouTube, I could not get the cover off. Steve was incredibly helpful and helped me get it off and allowed me to change the bulb myself. He also spent time educating me on the meaning of my TPMS light that has been on for the past 4 months. This is my second time at a AAA Travel/Car Care Center. I highly recommend and will return the next time I need their service.
