Steve, Elson, and the mechanics at Hylan Auto Repairs are very professional. I go to Hylan Auto Repairs every year for my vehicle inspection without any issue. The mechanics also go through the extra effort to inform me of anything to be concerned about or how to take better care of the car. Recently, the mechanic found alarming cracks on the inner wall of the tires that are due from aging and dry rot. The mechanics gave me a reasonable quote for a replacement of 4 tires and performed the replacement the next morning as soon as they got the delivery of the tires. Again, this is an excellent mechanic shop. I definitely recommend their services to friends and family.

Went to this place for a simple inspection. That's all I asked for . Two minutes in , owner runs out to me around the corner, to tell me there is no oil in my vehicle...Said ok, no problem, change the oil. Sign outside shop says oil change, full synthetic oil 49,99 $ . Passed inspection and paid 132.48 $ .Do the math on that, inspection is 37$. Later that night my battery light comes on... That's odd I said so I went to change the battery cause I saw its from Dec of 2017.... next day after changing my battery my car didn't start , it was the alternator that wasn't charging the bad battery and my new one got drained . I took the new alternator I bought and a new serpentine belt and barely made it back to this shop because its next to my house. I SHOULD OF KNOWN BETTER. PROBLEMS BEGAN AFTER I WENT IN FOR THE INSPECTON. Owner stated he needed 8 hours to change the alternator and pointed out that the serpentine belt tensioner needed to be changed and the labor and part would cost 800$. ( tensioner on my car costs 35-70 $) I asked if he could do the job for 500$ and he said he would do it just for me...smh! My car was ready within 5 hours and they never changed the tensioner, they said it was fine... Paid in cash , picked up my car from around the block cause they said there was no space in front. (lie, that made me worried). turned on the car and tested the battery 14 volts so I said all well. Then I started driving and there was a loud thump from the right side in the front. Drove straight back to the shop and called out one of the main guys and said get in my car for a small ride around the block. ( putting more thought into it he drove it there and didn't hear that noise????) He heard the noise and put the car back up on the lift, took a video , of something they didn't screw .Said he screwed it now. Said if you continue to hear the noise come back an other day when its not busy. (obviously my car is old and they can point out numerous things , but that noise wasn't there when I went in , in the first place!). So I drive off and the thumping noise was the same! I went to autozone to drop off the alternator and they asked me why it looked like it got hit by a sledge hammer. Then it all made sense, when I went in for the inspection they loosened the belt , or pulled on it hard so the alternator wouldn't charge the battery properly. And that's why they destroyed the old one cause it was working . But they got greedy they loosened up the screws from my right shock and that was making the noise. When I tightened those screws the noise was gone! You can decide for yourselves if that was a mistake or deliberate! AND TO TOP THIS ALL I HAD MY TWO YEAR OLD WITH ME IN ALL OCCASIONS , THEY LITERALLY PUT MY CHILDS LIFE IN DANGER . I WOULD APPRECIATE MY MONEY BACK IN AN ENVELOPE AT MY ADDRESS MAILBOX WITH MY NAME ON IT .I WOULDNT BET ON IT THOUGH! WENT IN FOR A SIMPLE INSPECTION LEFT WITH A 1100$ BILL. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

I recently took my car to Hylan Auto Repair for some much needed maintenance and I have to say, I was thoroughly impressed with the level of service I received. From the moment I walked in, the staff were friendly and professional. They listened to my concerns and provided helpful recommendations without trying to upsell me on unnecessary services. The work on my car was completed in a timely manner and at a fair price. I was also happy to see that they use high quality parts and stand behind their work with a solid warranty. I had a battery issue at like 5 pm on a Thursday, car was saying not to turn off engine or else it probably won’t turn back on. I had an important road trip the next morning so it was quite a crappy situation. These guys took me in despite it being so late notice and replaced the battery and made sure I didn’t have any electrical issues. Great price aswell. Very grateful to them these guys are great !! Highly recommend to anyone needing competent people to help you with your car troubles

My car had issues with the A/C for a while and it was long overdue to get it fixed. My dad recommended me to go to Hylan Auto Repairs since their store front showed a sign that they also specialized in repairing vehicle A/C. I made a visit a week ago (Sat, 4/26/25) and spoke to Elson who advised me to bring my car into the shop at 8am since there were already about 2-3 customers in line who were also having issues with their A/C. I went the following week (Sat, 5/3/25) and showed up just a few mins before they opened. The shop was empty so I believe I was the first one there. I spoke to Steve and explained the issues I was having. He gave me a quote for running diagnostic tests for the A/C system and refilling refrigerant if all is good. I accepted and he took my car in, estimating it would take about 2 hours. Later in the day, I received several calls from Steve. He explained that the AC compressor was not working but he could have it fixed for me if I wanted him to. The repair cost was somewhat higher than the average with aftermarket parts but I still went ahead with it since it would be one less problem to deal with. My dad went with me to pick up my car and requested to see the new AC compressor (although you can’t really see it since it’s underneath the car). Steve showed the old AC compressor and my initial reaction was that it was so beat up and aging. Steve also stated he changed 2 valves and the A/C filter free of charge. It might not be much but to me, I appreciate everything and am grateful. Overall, the repair took almost 5 hours. I was in no rush so I was more than happy if they took all the time they needed as long as my car was fixed. It was a pleasure doing business with Steve. He was very patient and explained everything thoroughly. Hopefully my car can last for a few more years. Thank you!

To start off, I got to know this place when my sister got a flat tire on Sunday. All the repair shops were closed including this one, but we were unsure about this one and decided to stop by. When we came over, the owner and I guess one of his workers stopped by for a meet up, and when we asked if they were open, they replied “we are closed, but what do you need?” We told them we got a flat tire and they said it will be an easy and quick fix and they will take care of it. They fixed the flat tire in about 5-10 minutes. Of course we left them a tip and moved on. So in the house hold we have 3 cars, and they service all three of them. Stopped by for a ac problem with my Honda CR-V. With Acura MDX stopped by for actually all the lights showing up on the dash board and the car was being unresponsive. At the same time we changed disk brakes and brake pads. It ended up costing about $400, and I expected way more. The disk brakes alone costs like $300. Overall this place is very reliable and affordable! They will take care of you as you are a family member! They will do a check up and let you know what’s wrong before starting any work. You can bring your own parts and they will charge you for the labor only. That’s why I give them 5 stars and would recommend to everyone on the island and near by! So now anytime we have any issue with the car we always come over here. And also we always recommend this place.

I called this place 2 weeks ago because i had to get an inspection done during my break, I work at the hospital. First of all the customer service is phenomenal from the second Steve answered the phone, to when I got there & my inspection was done I felt taken care of.
