I bought a 89 Honda Accord from a relative in 2001. They lived around the corner from J&P and strongly recommended their work. When I took the car in, Andy showed incredible concern with my old junker. See, he had gotten that car thru 350K+ miles and wanted to make sure it kept going. Well, in 2005 when the transmission finally failed it had 420K miles on it and I think Andy was sadder than I was that it had died. I bought a 98 Avalon from him which hit 180K miles this weekend (10/1/10); don't think I'll get it to 420K but I know whether I need an oil change or repair that Andy et al will take care of me and my car. It's nice to leave a garage not feeling like you've been taken for a proverbial ride!

Great service and local business. They fixed my wiring, which rats had eaten (love Allston for that), for less than a 4th of the price that the dealership quoted me at. Definitely will return to for future repairs. Very friendly and explanatory of the problem as well as the repair.

My son just moved to Allston and was having car troubles. Just moved there from rochester ny. We had no connections there. Took his car to a dealership and got a ridiculous QUOTE. So I started looking at garages in the area and called J & P spoke to Andy and felt a sense of comfort. He was able to do the work quickly and for less than half the price. Highly recommend. Super nice and professional and thanked me for trusting him.

Been to these guys 3 times now. Very friendly, and fairly priced. Do great work! The last time I was there I got 4 brand new tires and got a flat tire a week later. Turns out I drove over a nail, and they plugged it and changed it for me for free. I insisted they charge me a little for their time but they said it was all good. They take care of their people!

Best mechanics I’ve found in Boston! Another nearby mechanic told me I needed my brakes down after over charging me big time for an oil change, after I asked him to check the brakes etc while he was doing the oil (my car’s 20 years old, I like to stay on top of maintenance). I was on a streak of bad mechanics, and was skeptical about the brakes, so I brought my car to J&P because of the great reviews. The next day, I called to check in on the car on break at work, because i was worried about not being able to answer if they called me at a busy moment. Andy went out of his way to coordinate so I could give them the green light for repairs asap. They let me know the brakes were fine- the first mechanic had just been scamming me! - but they’d found a small issue that mattered for safety. They explained it clearly and gave me a very reasonable quote. When I picked up my car, they had a super clear itemized receipt ready for me. Just a great experience - nothing better than good honest people who know what they’re doing! I know basic things about my vehicle, and my brother’s a mechanic, so I like to think I’m harder to rip off than your average car owner. And I like to think the best of mechanics. But I was starting to lose faith til I found these guys! Definitely will be coming here for all my repairs and maintenance.

I don't typically write reviews, but over the last year I've been collecting a few places to write truly 5 star reviews for. J+P is at the top of the list - I could not recommend an autoshop more, 10/10. Andy is one of the kindest humans I have ever met, and I feel so comfortable and safe in his auto shop. I have called numerous times with seemingly dumb questions and come in for various work (both big and small) on my new-to-me used car. What I appreciate most as a young woman is that he genuinely takes the time to explain to me why certain things need to get done, how they'll do it, and why it costs what it does. I could not have a stronger review for this auto shop!

I took my car in for some body work (Subaru). Andy quoted me an estimate on the spot, which was about half what another repair shop wanted to charge. The official quote he gave me matched the estimate almost to the dollar. It took a couple weeks to get the car in (parts etc.; the car was drivable in the meantime), but the work itself only took 3 days. I paid exactly the amount quoted, and the car looks good as new. I'd be happy enough with quality work, a good price, and honesty, but Andy was also friendly, which anyone knows is not a given at repair shops.

Taking my car to J&P Garage and Andy was one of the best autobody/mechanical shop customer experiences I've ever had. I was in a bit of a pickle because my emissions sticker expired in the month of March. My car's check engine light had been going on and off since January and the first shop I took it to only told me the catalytic converters were bad or at least that's what the diagnostic said. I don't think they looked any further than that. Of course the check engine light went off mid March so I was strapped for time. After explaining my situation to Andy, he and his team took a deeper dive due to the inconclusive results from the diagnostic. They saw that a flex pipe was loose and leaking in front of the catalytic converter and that could likely be the cause. He didn't give me any guarantees but got the pipe fixed at a reasonable price and even offered to take my car to get inspected after getting it fixed - again, no guarantees that it would pass or fail, but he explained to me the process for getting a sticker and the check engine light that the light needed to turn off on its own in order to pass. So before taking it to get inspected, they drove the car around for a bit to see if the check engine light would turn off on its own after the pipe was fixed and it did! He didn't have to do that, but I was so appreciative. I would recommend this shop 10/10 for all your autobody needs - for the customer service, the transparency, the professionalism alone, but bonus points, my dog loved him. :)

I had a fantastic experience with J&P today working with Carlos and Andy. The day started off with my car having issues and a check engine light and me towing it over to them around 11am. Within a couple of hours they had diagnosed it as a cylinder misfiring and needed spark plug replacement. They quoted a very reasonable price over the phone and I gave the go ahead to do the work. A couple hours later they had finished and the car was ready for me to pick up the same day. Andy even explained the details of my car’s troubles when picking it up which gave me even more confidence in their work. If there were more than 5 stars I would give it!
