The clutch on my '97 Tacoma started acting up in Feb. and when I asked around re: honest mechanics, I had two people refer me to Jack & Sons. I called them and was able to take my truck in and have it repaired by the end of the business day. They even had one of their employees drive me home. My clutch began sticking again a couple of days ago, and since I knew it was the same issue, I called them and they told me to drop it by. Again, same day repair service, and there was no charge this time since I'd just been in in February (five months ago). If you're looking for an honest mechanic, this is the place to go. I wouldn't take my vehicle anywhere else as long as I live in Las Vegas.

Good old Eddie, Jack's brother and successor... Last Friday when I called him; it was just under $500 to replace the water pump. I had to take it to Sun Auto earlier because it was overheating and, after negotiations, they quoted over $700 for the water pump. So, I called Eddie, hoping he had changed his ways Today, Monday took it in and reminded him of his phone quote. , Later,he called and said it would be about $1300. I asked how that could be. Eddie said it needed new belts and a new radiator. I told him the belts were replaced about a year ago and to forget about replacing the radiator (as Sun Auto didn't mention a bad radiator) Well, he said the belts had gotten coolant on them. I told him the belts would stay on. The price we finally settled on was $636, a 30% increase from his quote on Friday. For that, Sun, after I called them back, had quoted $700 and never mentioned the radiator. I should have left it there and I would have had it back on Saturday. Definitely finding someone other than Jack's. Used to love this place when Jack and his sons were there. But, Jack brought his brother Eddie in from Texas and, at least for me, things started going downhill. I took my car in a few months ago, because one of the headlights wasn't working. 8 hours later found out it was a fuse and got charged 135 bucks. Yesterday, I took it in for an oil leak. Got a call that it was the rocker arm cover and it would be $1,400. I asked why so expensive and was told he recommended we change some sensors, at the same time, with an upcharge of 200. What else, I asked: well might as well change the.oil for 50 bucks. It seems Eddie always wants to upsell, always at my expense.. I'm not asking him to remove the engine, just change a gasket. My daughter took her car in about 6 months ago for a brake job. Fine, but she got a call that they broke something during the repair and, although they wouldn't charge her for labor, they were charging her for the parts, a couple of hundred bucks. A brake job cost her well over $1,000 and left her without a car for days. She's taken the same car several times because the "check engine" light keeps coming on. She pays to fix it and within a day, the light comes back on. She was told that the sensor was bad; they changed it and the light cam .back on Each visit, she's charged for,but the car doesn't get fixed. I'll probably look for another shop.
