I drove 4 hours from St Louis to purchase a used car. But first, I took it to Mike's for a pre-purchase inspection and I'm extremely grateful I did! After a short wait, Mike informed me of over a dozen mechanical issues, including oil and power steering fluid leakages and bent suspension components. He was blunt and said he personally wouldn't bother with a car in this condition unless it was basically free. The rate he charged was super reasonable, and even though I didn't end up walking away with the car, it's still one of the best investments I've ever made! He saved me over $12k!!! If you are thinking about purchasing a car in the Rockford area, I highly highly recommend getting it inspected by Mike beforehand. Mike will not sugarcoat any issues that the car has, and he just might save you hours of headache and thousands of dollars.

I was a loyal Customer of Mike's Auto for 20+ years and while I was happy for Barb and Mike's retirement news - they both deserve only the best - I wondered how I would live without their advice and good service. Well, I need not wonder any more. I needed new tires and I scheduled an appointment a few days ago for today. When I called, Mallory pulled up my records and set me up right away assuring me that Matt, Jason and his team would be able to do everything I needed, same day, while I waited. True to their word, I drove in at 8am, they took a look, gave me a couple quotes, we made a decision, they ordered the tires and by 1pm I was back for the service call. I was so impressed with the service and care they took to explain everything to me that I will be referring my friends to them for sure (they already have my entire family). As I drove home on my new tires, it felt like I had a brand new car. Thank You Mike's Auto team. Job well done! See you soon. Oh, and by the way, I made an appointment with Matt for next Friday for my son who lives in Milwaukee to get a second opinion on an expensive fix that the Honda dealership in Milwaukee suggested. Better safe than sorry.

We are long-time customers of Mike’s Auto and we are just as pleased with the work and service from the new owners as we have always been. They have taken very good care of both of our vehicles, are prompt in calling us with quotes, honest with what needs to be done, and don’t perform any unnecessary work. They are professional and also are free to offer advice. And, all is done in a courteous way. It is also a pleasant experience to sit and relax in their very clean waiting room complete with a tv and free snacks. Overall thumbs up!

I stopped into Mike's on my way to work because my check engine light came on. I had a busy day, so I was unable to wait. The owner Matt made a point to come and do a visual diagnostic before I left the shop, which left an impression on me. I took my car back a few days later and they were able to replace my turbo very quickly. Not only is this one of the cleanest shops I have ever been in, but the quality of service was unparallel! I highly highly recommend Mike's Auto Service.

Great experience. Very polite staff, the waiting room is very clean, well-lit, and overall- very welcoming. They have beverages and snacks to enjoy. They were quick to complete the work. I usually dread taking my car into any shop. This was a very pleasant experience. I took my car into Mike's today and have to add to my initial review. It took less than 25 minutes to have car winterized and the tires rotated. Everyone is so friendly. Another great experience. Thank you Matt, Mallory and staff!

Visiting from out of state with an annoying rattle especially going over bumps in the road. Noah was quick to diagnose the missing bolt for one of the running board brackets. Got us in and work done within minutes of our arrival. Clean, efficient and reasonably priced. Would go here again for any of our GMC truck needs. Thank you to the team!!

I've taken my car here a few times for some work and didn't have any trouble. However, after I had an engine light go on after I lost then replaced the gas cap I took it in. I figured it was just the cap but it's an older car so I wanted to be sure. After they reset it saying it was likely that the "cap was loose" I had the light pop on again and returned. $400 later (including an oil change and parts) they found out that the gas cap was the wrong type... Say whatever you will, but that's a lot of money to find out I needed a different gas cap. Edit after reply: I appreciate you reaching out but I do understand the charges and service without needing a phone call... It doesn't change the fact that the bulk of the charges were related to the gas cap ($280 for labor). I came in for my engine light, you knew it was the gas cap the first time and only solved the issue after I came back a second time. For such a simple issue it tells me either you guys weren't working diligently or you took advantage of me, taking the chance to charge me more in this situation. Never even got an apology that I had to drop so much money for your mistake. Of the few honest mechanics I've been to, they would have discounted the service or at least apologized. I wouldn't have left this negative review if I received any sort of honesty or compassion from your staff. I'll take this post down if I receive an apology.

When it started getting super cold this year I had some serious lights come on on my dashboard. I scheduled an appointment with Mike's but my car started acting even worse so I had to take it in even earlier than the scheduled appointment. Luckily for me, they were able to diagnose and fix the problem rapidly, and my car was back on the road in just a few days. Afterwards, I brought it back for a diagnosis at no cost for some of the issues that I was still having. (unrelated to the repairs, a completely different problem.) The staff at Mike's are clearly very knowledgeable and experienced, and they've gained my trust for future work!

Great place to go with top notch mechanics and an awesome support team. My dad told me when I first started driving Years ago,”When you find and honest great mechanic, Stick with them!” Great advice and has been my practice ever since, no matter where I’ve lived. When I first moved to the neighborhood I had my eye on Mike’s. The vibe it gives off is one of honesty and a customer caring owner. I took my 2019 Flex there in December for an oil change. (never go to your wham bam oil changing places, find a reputable car shop) I got a call from them not long after the drop off, that my serpentine belt was cracking and needed replaced and they quoted me a price. I didn’t hesitate and authorized them to change the belt. I am on the highway a lot between here and Kentucky, I don’t need that problem at 70 mph at 7am in the middle of nowhere. LOL That’s the kind of shop I want in my corner. Need a trustworthy and honest car shop check out Mike’s, you won’t be disappointed!Thanks Mike’s Auto Service!!

Can't say enough about this place. First off- my new starter and battery, along with an oil change was finished in ONE DAY. Our last mechanic would have taken a week. Secondly- when I called they gave me a price range so I had an idea how much it would be before I had it towed there. And the price was right on. Actually a little less than when I had a starter out in my old car five years ago. Lastly, the guys couldn't have been friendlier, from start to finish. If you need a new mechanic, this is the place to go!

We had a timing chain removal and replacement done in May 2025 on a 2011 Camry SE. This way a big job as we were faced with a decision to get it fixed or try to sell it as-is. Jason was very easy to work with and helped us along the way. The car drove as good as new after the work was done. I would highly recommend Mike's Auto Service.

BEWARE! DO NOT TRUST MIKE’S AUTO. THEY USE SILICONE FOR REPAIRS. READ THEIR RESPONSES TO REVIEWS THEY ARE VERY DEFENSIVE AND DO NOT CARE TO LISTEN TO THE CONCERNS. I asked for a quote to replace my daughter’s Chrysler 300’s engine. They quoted $5,700. I was very clear and explained that I would think about it and let them know since it was an old vehicle. They then called and told me they had the engine and I had to pay for it. The owner Matt pressured me and offered to give a discount. Ultimately, it was lowered to $5,500. ($200 was not going to break the bank) I did not want to ruin the work relationship and caved in. Matt assured me it would have a lifespan of 2-3 years. 3 months later my daughter is driving on the highway and noticed smoke. She pulled over without causing an accident as fast as she could. I did not trust to take it back. My father, a buddy and a mechanic took a quick peek at it and immediately noticed the hose right next to the one they replaced was not replaced. They all agreed a good mechanic would have replaced it even if it warranted a simple call to inform of an up charge. Then we noticed the silicone, cracked engine, old spark plugs, broken coil, oil in the old filter, etc. Demonstrating they did shoddy work when replacing the engine. I called and Matt was extremely defensive. He also accused me of totaling this car. (I had a Jeep I totaled and asked for the receipt for insurance purposes. They sent me the email for the Jeep.) This attests to their poor listening skills. He continued to talk over me, distorting what I was explaining and ultimately hung up on me. Finally, I showed up to try to reach an agreement. MATT STATED “I DON’T CARE, I AM DONE WITH THIS CAR” and walked away. SAVE YOURSELF FROM PEOPLE WHO DO NOT ACTIVELY LISTEN TO YOUR CONCERNS. THIS IS TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Great team at Mike's Auto Service. Every vehicle problem I have had they have been able to fix in a super timely manner. They also stand behind all their repairs and seem to treat the vehicle as if it was their own. They are honest, look at the bigger picture of vehicle maintenance (how long you plan to own, what the vehicle is used for, etc.). Have used several auto shops over the last 30 plus years and Mike's is the best!
