I can't emphasize enough how bad my experience was with Modified by KC. Friendly until they have your money then ignore messages if you have a question or concern. Quick to aggressively respond with anger and insults. Maybe Ryan's life is just that hard but he needs to be a lot better at communicating with customers. Cherry on top, if you have something as simple as loose or missing bolts(as an example) and message asking if they could please find a time to bring it back in to check it over.. don't expect a response.

This is a great shop to have your car modified at. I had long tube headers and high flow cats installed on my 2010 Camaro SS about a year ago. Ryan was very helpful in getting me a quote and recommendations for my car. I was slightly upset when I received a call saying that they would have to fabricate a pipe to fit my mufflers that I had previously swapped out, which was not on any means the fault of this shop, but it cut into my budget a bit. Ryan recommended having the headers wrapped in a heat resistant material for an extra charge. I declined since I already was paying more than I thought for the fabrication, and looking back at it I wish I would’ve listened to his recommendation as my headers were getting hot and have begun to melt the wire for my crankshaft position sensor. These guys are the best in business and truly know what they are talking about. Always listen to their recommendations as they are not trying to upsell you, but actually want what is best for you and your car. I will be back once I am ready to do a cam swap!

I took my 2020 WRX to Modified by KC to get a stage 2+ tune. I want to preface this by letting everyone know upfront that I'm NOT a mechanic and I don't know a whole lot about cars. I like to drive cars, not work on them. The team was very knowledgeable and helpful during the entire process. They went out of their way to explain what was going to be done, how much I would expect to pay, and how long it would take. I have 2 dash cams in my car, and can confirm that they take EXTRA care of your car in the shop, on the dyno, and on the road. My expectations were exceeded and I was pleasantly surprised by the professionalism and care the team took with my vehicle. Getting parts took a few months, which I expected. No surprise there. Supply chain troubles and all that. So no complaints there. The team at MKC installed everything, cleaned up the engine bay and surrounding areas, triple checked their work, and put my car on a dyno to give me actual numbers. I have my next modifications (with reliablity being at the top of my list of requirements) and a roundabout estimate on how much it will cost and what to expect. If you want to get your car modified, tuned, looked at, blessed, whatever, this is the de facto team to see in KC. I won't trust my car with anyone else at this point unless referred to by the MKC team.

Definitely appreciate the work the crew there has done to my 21 Explorer ST. Game changer for me. Also the knowledge Ryan has to help point me in the right direction for future mods. Looking forward to my next step and having them work on it

Super helpful and a straight shooter no BS. I didn't drop 15k, only a few hundred dollars and still felt like they really cared.

Modified by KC was referred by another tuner of mine that wasn't local. Did not disappoint, the service was great and Ryan dialed in my vehicle with accuracy. The maps that he gave me were on point for my 08 g37s coupe. Would of never thought he can squeeze that much hp out of my car thank you Modified by KC 🔥🔥🔥

The team at Modified has been easy to work with. Had a serious breakdown and had to trailer my Durango to them. I had to come up with some money to get it fixed. They allowed it to stay there and with in a couple of days, had the first invoice paid for the parts. I'm hoping that the next couple of days, I get a call saying it's done. I've been anxious and trying not to bother them. LOL. I will definitely be back for more work to be done on it in the future.

Incredibly knowledgeable shop with clear communication. I had them do a thorough inspection of a car I picked up recently and they found several small issues and tidied them up. They took pictures of everything and explained it thoroughly which gave me a lot of confidence. Ryan was responsive via email and also shared his expert opinion on recommendations for my future performance upgrades.

Had headers and intake installed on my challenger plus a tune and I couldn’t be happier with the results. They kept me updated and got it done pretty quick. Definitely recommend going to this shop, I will be going back in the future. I can tell they really care about the work they do. They will get you just what you need.

Ryan and his crew did a phenomenal job on my car. Ryan gave me a couple of options and was very responsive throughout the entire process. Although he was not able to answer every time I called, he promptly called me back when he had the time too. I believe that if you had legitimate concerns and realistic goals, they were able to deliver on those expectations. He gave me an eta and delivered like they said they would! I would highly recommend their services as they resolved ALL the issues with my car my I took it to them.

Just wanted to say thank you to Ryan and his team. Been to a few local tuners but none have come close to the care and ability to stand by their work. Always nice respectful and have the knowledge to get the job done correctly. Hands down the best in KC. Thank you again for your service!

I have a 2020 Subaru STI that I brought to Modified by KC for a Stage 2+ package which included an Invidia Catted Downpipe, Cylinder 4 Cooling Mod, IAG Air Oil Separator, Electronic Boost Controller, NGK 1 Step Colder Spark Plugs, Fuel Pump/Injectors, and Dynotune. The agreement was I pay for the parts and I pay for the tune/labor upon pickup of my vehicle. I submitted my deposit totaling $1532.37. I also asked for a leak-down and compression test which was not in writing in the initial agreement. I reminded them midway through the build. So far only the downpipe and cylinder 4 cooling mod was installed. They performed the compression/leakdown test and the numbers turned out to be suboptimal for my motor and we canceled the entire project and take down the downpipe and cylinder 4 cooling mod. Upon receiving my vehicle they refused to give back the deposit. Ryan became extremely confrontational by saying we don't owe you money. I already received terrible news that my motor is not viable and Ryan being extremely rude to me and made me feel like I was at fault for asking for money from them and running a suboptimal tune on my car. The services performed were: Downpipe install/takedown Cylinder 4 Cooling install/takedown Leakdown and Compression test These 3 services are NOT worth the $1532.37 I paid them but when I kindly asked them to work with me, Ryan made ME feel bad for even trying to ask them. Not to mention my car ran HORRIBLY after taking it back. My car had a noticeably rough idle that I've never noticed before. It also has NEVER flashed the check engine light until it sat on their parking lot. Chad had to reset my ECU TWICE to clear the Cylinder misfire code. EITHER it's coincidence that the problem from the leakdown test is getting worse OR something during the install/takedown process that affected my car. I leave this situation to chance at this point. I had to double check the work as I did not trust them. I found the coolant was also below the low line in my reservoir and I had to ask them to top it off. I've seen some reviews about rude customer service. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and still decided to trust them. I REGRET my decision. Chad was the only one to show empathy for my unfortunate situation. I left their shop feeling sad and mistreated. ------------------------------EDIT 6/25/24---------------------------------------- I took my car to my Subaru dealership for the same diagnostic test. They performed a leakdown test and they had -10% leakdown on ALL cylinders. I also sent datalogs to a tuner and he was skeptical of anything wrong with my car. Not to mention, the rough idle I noticed at Modified by KC's parking lot was caused by my Cylinder 3 gap to be at 0.07. They somehow messed that up because it never idled rough until my visit with Modified by KC. I mentioned these findings to Modified by KC and they said they "stand behind their findings". These guys are awful. PLEASE STAY AWAY. Go to EcoTech in Saint Louis if you have a Subaru and are wanting performance work done. This was my experience with Modified By KC. DO NOT GO HERE.

I had a fantastic experience with Modified by KC! From the start, their communication was clear and transparent, especially when it came to their schedule. It’s important to note that this isn't a quick lube or a fast-service place like Sport Clips — you need to keep your appointment and stick to the schedule. If you do, everything will go smoothly. They really listened to my concerns and came up with a creative and cost-effective solution to my problem. Their knowledge and attention to detail were top-notch. It’s clear they value their customers and take pride in their work. I’ll definitely be back in the future! Remember, it’s all about respecting the process and they will take care of the rest. Highly recommend them!

I don't often ever write reviews, but for these guys, Ryan and Chad Charlton at MKC Performance, they definitely deserve it in my eyes, and to be honest, I am doing those of you out there that are looking for someone trustworthy and honest who will take care of your prized car like I was, a major favor! I searced the web for a few days, for a reputable shop in the local Kansas City area who could install "MY supplied" MMX VVT Max Effort V2 NA peformance cam package into my 2023 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack together with a set of Stainless Power Long Tube Headers and a ported intake with an 87mm Ported Throttle Body as well as a TCI Stage 2 3200rpm Stall Torque Converter and then tune the package to maximum perfomance and then return the car to me looking just as pristine as it did when I dropped it off although running far better than ever of course. These guys at MKC Performance are the real deal and they delivered as promised and better than I ever expected! Now I mentioned that I supplied the parts, and they still agreed to do the work for me, and still at a very fair price, and in the end they would not accept a tip afterwards, rare trait these days, the fact is, they would have sold the same parts to me at the same or better prices than what I had bought them for myself, unfortunately, I found them after the fact. They are very competitive when it comes to their parts pricing, they are in business to be successful! My next purchase will be a set of thier ported 6.4L Hemi heads...next stop!! Can't wait for them!! Again this shop is the best "Go Fast Shop" in the area so dont waste your time going to the others, Professional services, fair prices, great service, they work on all brands as far as I can tell, big shop, dyno services, fully equipped to handle it all, you name it they can handle! Ryan, Chad and Team....THANK YOU!!

I had an IAG 550 short block installed in my 2017 Subaru STI by Modified by KC, and my experience couldn’t have been more different than some of the negative reviews floating around. From the start, Ryan and the team were professional, honest, and clearly passionate about what they do. I explained how I planned to use the car—both for street driving and occasional autocross—and they put together a setup that fits those goals perfectly, without trying to upsell or steer me toward anything I didn’t need. If you're looking for a place with dealership-style hours or "wait while we look at it" service, this isn’t that kind of shop. MKC is a serious performance shop that prioritizes quality over convenience—and that’s exactly why I chose them. After picking up the car, I drove it 1,000 miles home without a single issue, then turned around and autocrossed it the very next weekend. It ran flawlessly—tight, responsive, and solid under pressure. That’s the kind of confidence you want when dropping serious money on a build. As for the claims about Ryan being “snarky,” I found him to be direct and no-nonsense—something I appreciate when it comes to high-performance work. He doesn’t sugarcoat things, and that’s a good thing when you're trusting someone with your engine. If you want your hand held and someone to pretend they’re a dealership, there are places for that. But if you want a team that does it right the first time and knows what they’re doing, MKC is the real deal.

I am fairly new to the tuner/turbo world of cars. I can get by with a wrench and do some basic stuff. So trying to explain an issue when I don’t know how to describe what’s going on is my downfall and I stated that to the gentleman. MKC was highly recommended, so I came in today 2/19 to talk about having my car looked at. You walk in the door and the place looks like a place I could hang out at. Then as I was trying to explain the best I could to the gentleman setting down behind the computer screen. He didn’t make it seem like he wanted my business from the start. Telling me “we’re not a jiffy lube.” I understand that completely, I never said y’all were! all I wanted was to see if someone could take a closer look to better explain what was going on or can point me in the right direction. As I said I have no clue what I am doing. So instead of making me feel even more stupid, I walked out. I already didn’t know what to say, or better yet (how to say) then to belittle me in saying I think your a jiffy lube! I seen the types of cars out front, but not everyone that walks through your doors knows what’s going on with their vehicle. I will probably go take my chance at jiffy lube, maybe they can tell me how to change my blinker fluid or my muffler bearings.

These are the cats you want tuning your car. For starters, they were able to hook me up with +50 HP and +75 tq with just a tune. Not saying everyone will have the same experience nor that you should expect those numbers for the (very reasonable) cost of just a tune. But you better believe that the kind of knowledge it takes to do that is impressive. Very experienced in the automotive industry and these folks are among the most knowledgeable people I've met in the area. Thanks Ryan and Chad! (PS, scheduling is a breeze and their work is worth any wait you might experience.)
