This company is overpriced and not very nice if you don't agree with them. We took our car in for a new battery and they charged us $425. When we told them they shouldn't have run extra diagnostics without changing the battery like we asked they tried to defend themselves and would only lower the bill $50. A battery should cost $115. They are a total ripoff. Classic mechanic taking advantage and overcharging. Don't ever go here!

Like a lot of people, I don't trust auto mechanics. I took my car here because it was recommended to me by a friend. Usually I would just go to a GM dealership for all my problems. At first, they were courteous and professional. The secretary is nice and helpful. Their pricing seems fair and I didn't get the sense that they were trying to gouge me, at least not initially. If you know exactly what you want fixed/replaced then I'm sure this is not a bad place to go to. However, the moment I decided against a costly repair, the technician (Mark) literally berated me on the phone, essentially saying that I was stupid for not trusting his judgement. Quite frankly, I had good reason to at least question the repairs he was offering since his initial diagnosis was wrong. This interaction killed it for me. I'm not going here again and neither is my friend. Long story short, I didn't mind that they couldn't find the diagnosis for my car problem immediately. He first offered to repair other worn out parts which were not related to my main problem; this would have cost about $1200 and I thought that was unreasonable given it would not fix my issue. I didn't let this bother me since most shops are eager to fix worn out parts even if unnecessary. My friend and I were thinking that the main problem was linked to the brakes, and finally the techs were able to locate the problem to the brake calipers. Since the repair was not going to be cheap, and since it wasn't clear why I had to replace the entire braking system, I wanted a second opinion from another professional. I was honestly surprised by the way Mark reacted. He got immediately upset that I "questioned" his judgement. I was not questioning anything; I think he may have finally found the problem. But as most people do for expensive repairs, I also wanted to get other estimates for the fix and to see if I actually required such an extensive repair. This is NOT unreasonable since I already don't trust any car mechanic (or dentists for that matter). I wasn't trying to insult him, but he certainly insulted me when he interrogated me about what I did for a living and implied I was stupid for taking my car to another mechanic. It's already hard enough trying to find a dealer that you can deem trustworthy. I had high hopes for this one after my initial interactions. But yelling at a customer over the phone is probably not the best business strategy. Customer relations trumps everything else.

Horrible experience! We asked for an inspection and a quote on an oil change, Mark comes back with over $400 worth of possible issues. We stated we would go to Infinity for our normal oil change but that wasn't acceptable, Mark held our car on the machine for over an hour trying to price match his quote with Infinity smh. The only good thing that came out of this visit were the tires we eventually had to purchase just to get our car released from hostage.

Came in just to get some studs removed from an exhaust manifold. A small job I feel like most shops would decline. They did it and were very kind so I decided to have them do a wheel balance and alignment on my truck. Took me in no problem. Judging by what was in the shop and pictures on the wall they were hotrod and real car people. My kind of people.

Our car needed work while we were visiting from out of state. On recommendation from our son, we called, and Mark was able to diagnose the problem, give us an estimate, and get the parts in that were needed. The price quoted in the estimate was what we were charged and they also stayed open late to complete the job so that we could have our car back for our return trip. All of this on the Friday before New Year's Eve. Thank you!

My family and I moved to the Winston area from out of state to attend school here 2 years ago. When we were looking for a good mechanic we found Performance Automotive. I have not regretted doing business with them since. Both of the cars we own (which are older) have been serviced and fixed there multiple times and I have always been satisfied with the quality of the work and the professionalism of Mark and his staff. On several occasions they have bent over backwards to help us out (stayed after their closing hours to help us as an example). I have never felt forced to take the services they offer and on at least one occasion Mark gave me some suggestions to help me out even though I didn't let him fix a problem on my car. Whenever someone asks me about a good mechanic to go to, who will treat them fairly, and not gouge them, I recommend Performance to them. I have never had any of my friends (or myself) regret going there.

I have been so pleased with the service I have received from Performance Automotive. I tell them to treat my car like it is their granny's -- i.e. I don't keep up with all of that maintenance log stuff so I need them to do it for me!! I ask them to check things out and let me know when I need something and they do. They always explain everything to me, let me know if something needs to be done right away or can wait awhile. And it is always a pleasant experience to drop in and visit with such friendly and kind folks. I am so happy to be able to shop locally and support my neighbors and my community -- while getting the best service!!
