My son paid for diagnostics test. Based on the diagnostics test paid over an additional $730 for repairs by them only to find out 2 later the head gasket in blown. Very disappointing in the way this was handled. We trusted your diagnosis and your repair work. Very disappointing and completely unprofessional

I drive three hours to bring my cars to Auto Surgeon, they’re that good. I trust them to do things right and (this is especially important for me) not to do things that don’t need to be done. Really impressed with the service level and professionalism and I refuse to take my vehicles anywhere else.

Great service, car was in and out within a few hours even with the issue being very uncommon and tricky. Also the price was about half to 1/3 of what I prepared to pay. Strongly recommend Auto Surgeon.

My van wouldn't start. They found corrosion on the battery terminals and fixed it for a fair price. They also found many other issues on my 215,000 mile, rusty, 18 year old van. I don't want to invest a lot but safety is important. Kim pointed out the safety issues to keep an eye on. Just what I need. I just wish she had pointed out that it was time for an oil change. The engine still runs great which I attribute to regular oil changes.

Repaired my idler pully and serp. belt just fine but only after trying to upsell me an additional $3,500 for a repair that only actually cost around $250. Safe to say I am very disappointed in there attempt to take advantage of a college age female. Just be aware and know what you are sending your car in for so that you do not pay for additional things you do not need. Also make sure to check in on your vehicle, they failed to call me to notify me that my repairs had been finished. I understand mistakes get made, however this felt like a bit of an oversight.

I took my 2020 Ford Fusion here to have the alternator replaced. The customer service was extremely professional. In particular, I liked that they did a good job communicating firm times/dates that they would like you to drop off your car for them to work on. I found other local place's business model of, "drop it off, we'll work on it when we work on it" to be frustrating. Also, I'm an Accounting graduate student at MSU with limited funds, so I really appreciate them quoting me an affordable price and then sticking to that quote at the end of the job. I definitely will be bringing my car here again in the future for any work I need done on it! Thank you!

I was very impressed with the high level of service we received from Auto Surgeon. My daughter's car broke down at school, about 45 minutes away from home. We called several places in the vicinity but Auto Surgeon was able to start working on her vehicle the next business day, they seemed very knowledgeable about her issue (we knew it was the radiator), and they gave us a rough estimate over the phone that was reasonable so we towed it in. The end cost was slightly cheaper than the estimate, so we were happy about that. Also, I've never had a car repair shop do such a thorough inspection on the whole vehicle. We received a detailed report with photos so we know what needs attention down the road. They did not try to upsell us on any of that, it was more informative. Keep up the great customer service AS team!

When i found out that the previous owner retired and sold the business, I literally panicked. I was concerned that I would no longer have someone to take care of my vehicles in an honest and affordable way. But, im happy to report that Kim and her team are providing the same excellent service that the previous owner had. I look forward to another 30 years of having the Auto Surgeon service my vehicles.

I've taken my best friend there for years and ended up using them myself at his recommendation. They're kind, VERY thorough with the inspection report that they give you which contains images and explanations, and surprisingly reasonably priced. The shop has after hours pickup and drop off, which was handy with my schedule. They pointed out a problem with my brake drums but mentioned that it wasn't something that I'd need done right away and gave a reasonable timetable on when it'd be smart to get it addressed. They weren't pushy on trying to upsell me here and now, and I think that combined with all the good word I've gotten from my friend makes me confident that they're an honest shop. No complaints, they're my go-to mechanic shop now.

Very friendly staff. I was pleased that the shop was very familiar with Ford Rangers. I was pleasantly surprised at the level of detail the shop provided to me when going over my Ranger. Not only did they quickly identify and repair the issue with the ignition system, they provided the most detailed and printable sheet that identified other areas of concern around the vehicle. I really like that.

Summary: Very professional and friendly staff. This place will do any and all jobs, but at a premium, almost double what decent mom and pop shops (e.g. B Randalls right up the street) are charging. I imagine Auto Surgeon has higher overhead costs that are being passed on to the customer (google sponsorship, fancy website and quote interfaces, insurance, warranties, etc.). If money is not an issue for you, this place will meet all your needs. Price comparisons are below. Car is a 2012 Mazda3 Auto Surgeon charged $172 (labor hour) for a very thorough inspection. Quoted $745 for a wheeling bearing replacement, $780 for a control arm replacement with alignment. Quality mom and pop shop, right up the street, charged $398 and $527 respectively. Mom and pop shop did not charge to inspect. When Auto Surgeon quoted me $5000+ for other recommended services (coolant flush -$257, brake fluid flush -$221, transmission flush- $436, fuel clean service - $286, spark plug replacement - $545, serpentine belt and tensioner replacement - $540, front and rear struts & shocks - $1736, and other services) I ran the other way. I cringe that I let my wife bring her car here a few months ago. She paid over $1000, only for the original problem/complaint to not have been fixed until it was brought back in and an additional payment made. But hey, they gave her a coupon for a free oil change. I am not affiliated with any shop. Just trying to help my fellow Lansing community out and encourage fair pricing. Do your own research; see what is a fair price for any service you get or how complicated (bearings, struts, shocks, control arms, alignments) or simple (brakes, oil change, belts, tensioners, spark plugs, starters, alternators) some services are. If you do any work yourself, make sure to use a torque wrench (at least for the tire lugnuts; you don't want a tire popping off on the expressway because lugnuts were too loose) and google your exact car specs. I have saved thousands over the years.

Contacted Auto Surgeon for an inspection on a used car that we were buying. The shop was very accommodating with fitting me into their schedule. The inspection was very detailed and the results that were sent electronically were thorough and easy to understand. I was able to speak with the shop manager and the mechanic about the results of the inspection and they helped clarify some details. Being from out of town, I may not have an opportunity to revisit the shop, but if I lived in Lansing, I would certainly be back. Attached are just a few screenshots from the website where some of the many details that were included on our inspection.

We’ve been bringing our cars here for several years now, and there are certain things that you will receive every time you go there: You will always get an honest and fair assessment of the issue. You’ll get an honest and fair cost assessment, and you always get a great result. Although my Husband brings his car here, I can tell you, that as a woman, you can trust them to tell you the truth. They won’t try to scam you or take advantage of you; you can feel completely confident in what they tell you is needed. I also need to give Jake an extra thumbs up. When I decided to get a new car, Jake took the time to research the cars I was interested in, giving me his professional opinion on the high points and the not so high points on each vehicle. He provided me with the information I needed to make a truly informed decision, and I tremendously appreciate that!

We took an old 2008 Honda Pilot--that our daughter depends on for driving around MSU--in for an overheating issue. Being unable to get out there during the day, we appreciated that they had a drop box so we could come out in the evening to bring the car over. Early the next day we had a _very_ thorough diagnostic of the vehicle, far more than we've seen from any other auto shop. Quite impressive. They gave us a quote for the repairs and, while they weren't cheap, they were also within reason for what was needed, and we were more focused on quality repairs that we wouldn't have to keep dealing with callbacks afterward. They turned around the repairs in a day and having had the vehicle back for a day, so far so good. It's running great and sounding better than it has in a while. Based on our experience so far, we would definitely return. We would recommend Auto Surgeon for any parents whose kids are driving "seasoned" cars on campus at MSU, and need to occasionally deal with repairs remotely. They were very easy to work with. At this point, our Pilot is practically a family heirloom, and they took good care of it.
