Posting as a “heads up” to others due to service I received a few months back that is still bothering me. Historically I really liked/trusted this location, so I’m not sure what has changed. I went in for my safety inspection and was also charged for an emissions inspection even though my vehicle is exempt from emissions inspections and the emissions inspection wasn’t even completed. I was then quoted over $1,000 to replace my brake pads and drums because “that’s what they typically recommend”. To those who don’t know, unless you’ve degraded your pads to nothing, you really should never need to replace your drums. I left angry and unable to renew my plates without a passed safety inspection, but was able to quickly resolve the issue by paying a little over $200 for new pads as a local auto shop that confirmed there was absolutely no need for new drums. These issues bother me because though I am fortunate enough to know when “I’m being had”, many others do not know enough and would easily overpay for unnecessary service. I truly hope this location can get back to the good place it once was.

Went for oil change, advertised free tire rotation with it. Saw someone elses review saying they didn't rotate tires, took a picture of my tires on left side before and after. Lo and behold, back left tire is the same spot, as visible by the white number (42 or 47?), thats not on any of my other tires. I asked both guys, first one said the other guy wa supposed to, second one said ya. False advertising and lying straight to my face. I wouldnt trust them with your car. Even "found" my tire lock to show he did rotate them. Also took 4.5 hours from when i dropped it off but i dont really care about that.

CarX On S.Kingshighway Is A Ripoff, I Needed A Mass Airflow Sensor, I Used My Extended Warranty For The Service,The Labor Is Only About 30 Minutes ,They Told My Warranty Company That The Labor Would Take An Hour 1/2 Which Would Be $220 Hr. Not Knowing The Warranty Company Goes Off A Pay Scale/Labor And Part Scale Aswell,Mind You I Had Just Left O’Reilly’s For A Check-Engine Light Diagnostic Scan, O’Reilly’s Gave Me A Copy Of The Diagnostic Scan Check,I Presented It To CarX , CarX Said They Couldn’t Go Off O’Reilly’s Diagnostic Scan Test Copy, They Had To Perform Their Own At The Cost Of $149.00 which My Warranty Company Paid For The Part, The Diagnostic Test To Make Sure The Sensor Was The Cause Of The Check-Engine Light, And The Labor, My Deductible Was $100 Buy The Time I Left Out Of CarX On S.Kingshighway I Was Outta Pocket $448.00 When My Warranty Company Had Paid For The Service And On Top Of That Me And A Few Others Witnessed Bullet Holes Through The Windows At CarX On S.Kingshighway, The Intake Person Was Yelling At Me Because I Asked Him Can He Show Me Proof That Of The Diagnostic Test, He Refused To Show Me Proof That It Was Ever Performed, Cause I Believe He Went Of The O’Reilly’s Scan Test Scan Copy, Yet I Still Had To Come Outta $448.00 Outta Pocket , I’m Very Dissatisfied And Disappointed With The Service At CarX On S.Kingshighway

I was a walk-in emissions inspection. After a wait, they fit me in and passed my inspection. Considering it was the last day of the month, it wasn't bad.

Great experience here! Took my car in for some work and Lee the manager was super helpful. I got my car back the same day and everything was communicated very clearly and efficiently. I recommend this location for sure!

Car X employee working the desk is a hidden gem. I wasn't able to use my Google pay and had no cash or cards on me when he did repairs on my tire with a nail in it. He came in and handed me my keys and told me he took care of it. No one has ever done that for me. I truly thank him and I will be allowing them to service my vehicle. Thank you so much. Five stars all the way.

The guys at Car-X always fix my car for a fair rate. If I take my car in for one problem, my care does not develop a random problem a week later. They tell me what's wrong before they fix it and give me options. I've been taking my car there for years. I highly recommend this place.

I bought my car used and took it the South Kinghighway location to get a diagnosis to get it ready for a long distance trip to get my grandbabies this summer. Lee was awesome. He let me know what need to get fixed right away for, a trip I had that weekend, and I just took it back last week for the remaining. My car runs great. The whole experience was very smooth, comfortable, and pricing was cheaper than I estimated. (Thank God).

I had a good experience here. Went in early, told them my car was having trouble starting, and dropped it off. They troubleshooted, did the repairs, and gave my car a nice once over. I got a report telling me what they checked and what was still good so that was nice—glad they checked my brakes! I got my car back the same day. Overall good experience. Plus Lee the guy working the desk is super friendly

Went for an inspection twice, once on July 31 and failed the safety because of a light short!! Cars been sitting in the yard entire time after failing safety?Today I went back after tinkering with the lights. I failed again! This time because of an alleged exhaust leak or rusted pipe? What? So these people are literally with intent on making money off people for bs stories? Well I'm not buying it! They are destroying people's cars and then very kindly ask you to come back! Never again! Contrary to what you all may believe! I have no reason to lie! That guy "Lee" he's not right! Spoke aggressively to me also.! So midas first and now car x don't trust none of these businesses!

Horrible! They are not fit to do mechanical work on cars yet they will accept the job as if they know what they're doing. They've messed up 2 of our cars. I told my husband not to take his car to them after our first experience & now he's having the same exact problem. They claim to fix a problem but the check engine light keeps reading the same codes they were supposed to have fixed. Same issue I had with my car. I would NEVER let them touch my car, not even an oil change! They deserve no stars yet I have to give at least one to post this review & John Oliver I couldn’t agree more. DANGEROUS THEY ARE!!! Don’t let them do any mechanical work to your car!

When doing an emission inspection here for registering a vehicle, don’t do the free but unnecessary safety check. They may fail your safety check by some minor problems and seduce you to repair at their store. Also, the quote of the repair is expensive, because it defaults to include warranty unless you ask the detailed composition of the price. Judge on your own carefully before trying any service at this place.

Had a flat tire and they were able to get me in last minute and had my tire size in stock. Lee was very helpful and finished the repairs in less than an hour. Not the first time they’ve gotten me out of a pinch! Highly recommend

I was referred to the shop on S. Kingshighway with high expectations, having been told they were the absolute best. Unfortunately, my experience was anything but. I brought in my BMW for a brake job and was later informed I needed an axle replacement as well. From the start, the brake job seemed to be a struggle for them. Based on how things went, I don’t believe they’re properly equipped to work on foreign vehicles, despite their claims. Whatever they did to my axle resulted in me needing a rental car for 30 days—at their expense—which says a lot about the complications they faced. When the job was finally completed, I had to take my car to a different shop (definitely not Car X), where I was told several bolts were missing. That was alarming, considering they had my car for a full month. When I called to speak with the manager, Lee, he told me, “Well, you didn’t have those bolts when you came in.” That response was not only dismissive but made no sense—why wouldn’t they have replaced missing bolts during a month-long repair? I called again to express my concerns and spoke with someone named Sean, who was argumentative and condescending. He insisted I was wrong about when my car was picked up from the BMW dealer, despite having no firsthand knowledge of my situation. His attitude was unprofessional and frankly unacceptable for someone in a management role. The customer service throughout this ordeal was the worst I’ve ever experienced—rude, defensive, and lacking basic communication skills. Even after spending nearly $3,000, my brakes have continued to squeal and screech for months. I’ve been so uncomfortable with the way I was treated that I am skeptical to return. This experience has left me deeply disappointed and questioning how this shop maintains its reputation. I hope others can learn from my situation and approach with caution. IF YOU READ THROUGH THE REVIEWS SEAN, IS STLL BEING UNPROFESSIONAL AND ARGUING WITH CUSTOMERS!!!! THOSE SHOULD BE COACHABLE MOMENTS FOR HIM.

This place is dangerous and overcharges. I came in for a routine inspection. After waiting for 1.5 hours they finally pulled my vehicle into the shop, removed front two wheels (no idea why), proceeded to make me wait another 20 minutes, then asked me to come outside. I had a tiny leak at a muffler clamp. My new muffler needed a small weld near the clamp I installed and a weld on bracket that was missing. They claimed the front caliper needed to be rotated (it did not). In summary it was 15 minutes of work. They quoted me $285. Lol. I told them I'd take it home and return in an hour with the repairs which I did. The repairs took me 30 minutes. It would have taken them ten minutes. At home I found out they didn't even tighten the lug nuts on my wheels. A ten year old girl could have removed them with a ratchet. Very dangerous. I returned and there was 3 hours left before they close. They wouldn't accommodate me even though all it needed was a 30 second visual inspection. Very unprofessional. Avoid this place at all costs. They will fabricate work that isn't needed and overcharge for what is needed

**update- 2/25/26 worst place to go to get your car fixed, the part that needed to be fixed on my truck was the same part my husband said it was when he took it in to be fixed the neutral safety switch, these techs didn’t care and didn’t listen repeatedly said no that’s not it got us to spend $800 on a starter, told us to cycle through the gears , we brought it back multiple times for them to look at and check over and they didn’t do their jobs at all, we just got the check done at autozone and it was confirmed of it being the neutral safety switch the whole time. So you can have your vehicle here do multiple days, being it back numerous times and you will leave with false information and you can tell they don’t care enough to actually look into the issue. So much time wasted and a ridiculous amount of money spent just for it to be the first thing my husband told them it was this entire time. It is so disheartening that you pay people to look after and fix and issue your having and you give them the answer and all they do is what they want and ignore you. Wouldn’t look into fixing the issue but can ask how much we’d sell the truck for is absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable don’t bring your car truck suv anything here because you’ll get more stress than you bargained for.** *original 1 week ago*I have never been so out right dissatisfied and disappointed with services than when here. My husband has taken our truck in for the second time not with in a week and the issue isn’t fixed. Being told our starter was the problem we got our truck in on a Friday got it back Saturday it ran for a day and wouldn’t start back up on Monday. They wouldn’t service it Monday because they closed at 5 so I had to get a Lyft to work the next day just for the tech to say “it started just fine for me I just cycled through the gears and it started up” so clearly it’s not fixed! they had already said that something was knocking from the starter making it not start because it knocked something else out of place, if it’s doing that then something isn’t right it should be fixed! And now for a third time as of today my truck will not start. I have cycled through the gears, I’ve tried a multitude of ways to get this truck to start and it will not. I now have to order another tow truck to come and pick up my vehicle so I can get home. I have never had such unreliable, untrustworthy service on a vehicle before in my life, what was the point of me paying for a service if you can’t guarantee to fix the problem? Cycling through gears should have never been the solution to a problem. If you couldn’t fix it why didn’t you get someone else from a different car rx? Why didnt you get a different tech to look at it? There had to be multiple ways, to find a solution to a problem that you were paid to fix. You said it was the starter clearly it’s not if you see it’s bumping into something why not find a way to keep that from happening? You’d rather send someone home with a problem than to find a way to fix it because it doesn’t affect you or your company because you already got paid! If I even bother to have to taken back is it going to be fixed? Probably not because it’s clear they don’t care, they didn’t care the first time, the didn’t care the second time. What’s gonna change this time? You know as good as I do probably nothing.

On December 22, 2025 I took my car into Car-X on South Kingshighway for a routine safety inspection. My car was running fine and not making any unusual noises. The failed safety inspection report I received from Car-X claimed I needed: 1. front and rear brake pads and rotors, 2. both steering lower control arms ("badly bent or broken") and 3. both front tires ("tread design is excessively worn"). The Car-X manager Lee quoted me a total repair price of over $3000 dollars. I told him I looked at my tires before I took the car in, and the thread looked just fine. He said they were worn on the inner rim of the tire which was not visible. On the phone he misled me to believe I also needed both rear tires due to dry rot, because they were made in 2019. My rear tires looked and felt normal, showing no sign of dryness, hardening or brittleness. On 12-29-25 I took my car to Missouri Highway Patrol Troop C headquarters and asked for a verification of these alledged conditions. A patrol officer inspected my car and found that all of these claims were invalid. In other words, my tires were NOT worn excessively, the control arms were NOT badly bent or broken, and I did NOT need new brake pads and rotors. The officer gave me a signed form to take back to Car-X and I would receive a passing inspection report. When I returned to Car-X, manager Lee spoke to me in a rude and aggressive tone of voice when I politely asked him for an explanation. He would not acknowledge the errors and did not give me any sort of an explanation. I asked him who he expected me to believe, him or the Highway Patrol? I am a 74-year-old senior citizen on a fixed income and cannot afford $3000 dollars of unnecessary car repair costs. I believe that manager Lee was taking advantage of me because it was only a few days before the end of the month deadline, thinking I would get the repairs done right away without question. I can understand someone making a mistake now and then, but all three MAJOR false inspection findings such as this indicate to me an intentional and systemic pattern of maximizing profits over basic honesty and integrity which the customer expects and deserves. Because I was not given any explanation and because I was treated badly, I have filed a formal complaint to the Missouri Highway Patrol, which oversees and licenses safety inspection stations. I felt I was being scammed. It is my understanding that the state regulations governing how inspections are to be performed are objective and non-ambiguous, involving clear and precise measurements and observations. To add insult to injury, as I was walking out of the shop, Lee facetiously told me to "Have a great day". I told him I was not having a great day because he was rude to me. In fact, I was having a great day because I had the courage to take action which saved me $3000 in unnecessary car repairs. I encourage anyone reading this review to learn from my experience. I will put the X on Car-X.
