BAIT AND SWITCH. AVOID. I was quoted $4,800 for a replacement transmission on popular Ford model. This was quoted as the highest end cost. After shopping around at 5 other independent shops Cottmans was right in the middle. They also stated they could turn these around in 72 hours and that there was a common, more affordable fix outside of total replacement that could be done. After diagnostic, they stated that it was a total lost and would need to be replaced at $6,605 almost $2,000 over price. They stated it was due to tariffs. Tariffs on a product made in Michigan or Ohio? Give me a break. Classic bait and switch tactic used by shops when times are tough. I told them "no thanks" and they held my car for ransom until I paid their diagnostic fee. I'm a proponent of paying people for their work but I do not want anyone else to fall victim to their scammy tactics. Please check out the other small shops in this area. My gut told me to go elsewhere and I regret not listening.

This is a first-class honest operation; they could have easily sold me a transmission the way my excursion was acting. I had just arrived in Winston-Salem, and the next morning I went to a Walmart about eight miles away, and that's when the transmission started acting up. I dropped it off at Cottman Transmissions on University Boulevard, and since it was late on Thursday, they wouldn't look at it until Monday. I said no problem. They called me on Tuesday and said they needed electrical diagnostic time to find out what the issue was, and again I said no problem; I would be down again on Thursday. Well, they found a faulty range finder sensor in the transmission, but that partially fixed the problem. However, when they drove it, it acted up again, and they would need more diagnostic time. Again, I said no problem. The tech traced it back, believing there was a chafed wire issue. Well, it wasn't, and it turned out to be the fan clutch that caused the grounding issue. That clutch fan wasn't the only thing it was affecting the grounding problem; my radio hasn't worked for three years now. When you turn the volume, it would go way up automatically and change channels on its own like it was possessed! Well, it's fixed! I drove five and a half hours home with it on without an issue! I cannot say enough about how honest the business is! I highly recommend the Service Advisor, Philena Miller; she was very knowledgeable and straightforward with me. The technician, Stanfield, knows how to fix and repair a vehicle and isn't just a parts re-placer, as we see now a days; it's quite obvious he really knows his mechanical/technical business. So from what I about this business is a business manager Jason Lucero runs a first-class operation, he treats the customer with respect, and manages the business with the customer in mind. I want to thank you for being an honest automotive service business. If I had to rate this business from 1 to 10, you would be a 20!!!!!!!! You are an anomaly in the industry! Thank you again! I bought my mini van 2years ago and this year 2023 one day the transmission just went off. I took my car to multiple places looking for quality and prices, a friend recommended me Cottman Transmission, I am very happy with the service they did up to customer service to all the questions I had. I was going to trade her in after been fixed because I was so afraid it will happen again but she runs better than when a purchase my dodge caravan 2019. I highly recommend Cottman and his team. The entire crew at Cottman Transmission went above and beyond to help me. Highly recommend this shop. I had traveled to Winston-Salem for the day from out of town and had a check engine light. Tested as a transmission code so not safe to get back on the road. Several shops could only help me the following week! but Cottman, who was just as booked up, agreed to help me. They got me back on the road and I won't ever forget their compassion and A -1 customer service. It turned out to be an intricate problem to diagnose, but they persisted and got me on my way. Definitely recommend for their customer service and expertise.

I had replacement of clutch, master cylinder, serpentine belt, and other much needed servicing. Before any repairs were done, technicians inspected each area very thouroughly. A bill estimate was given to me and after all repairs were completed, Awesome Technicians test drove it. I then have a recheck appointment this week for a complete re-inspection to make sure everything is working well.
